I tried using the installer and it bombed out with the error "target doesn't exist". I then downloaded the offline installation files. After a bit of trouble, I finally managed to install Eve.
Then the launcher wouldn't get past the "validating files 1/4 0%" so I couldn't go any further into launching the game. A bit more delving into the files and I found the EXE that by-passed the launcher. It took me 2 days of my trial period just to get that far and create a character.
Third day into my trial, I got an "incompatible build" error to tell me there is a patch that needs installing in order to continue. Of course that failed to download too. I am now faced with downloading the offline install files again since there doesn't appear to be a page with links for manual patch downloads. I soon found the "uninstall" button and got rid of Eve.
Support said it's a problem with my firewall. That might be true IF I HAD ONE! I turned it off a while back and now a windows common problem prevents me turning it back on again, my only recourse is to re-install windows to correct the problem. My router firewall has my PC set to a DMZ so it's not that either.
Lotro, WOW, WoT, Rappelz, Allods, Outerra beta, Star Citizen Hangar all work fine and I had no problem downloading, installing and playing them from their respective launchers. Eve is the ONLY one that is causing a problem.
I would suggest that CCP do something about it since I am probably not the only customer they've lost because of this. How can we trust the game to run properly when there are bugs in the installation procedures like that?

Run the repair tool, it's in the EVE folder. I've had to run it once or twice over the years. |

Run everything with Admin privileges to begin with (launcher, patcher) to see if it helps. If it doesn't help, here's how to check if firewall is doing okay (Run in Admin Command Prompt):
wmic service where name="MpsSvc" get /all /format:list
Your output should be: AcceptPause=FALSE AcceptStop=TRUE Caption=Windows Firewall CheckPoint=0 CreationClassName=Win32_Service Description=Windows Firewall helps protect your computer by preventing unauthorized users from gaining access to your computer through the Internet or a network. DesktopInteract=FALSE DisplayName=Windows Firewall ErrorControl=Normal ExitCode=0 InstallDate= Name=MpsSvc PathName=C:\Windows\system32\svchost.exe -k LocalServiceNoNetwork ProcessId=1648 ServiceSpecificExitCode=0 ServiceType=Share Process Started=TRUE StartMode=Auto StartName=NT Authority\LocalService State=Running Status=OK SystemCreationClassName=Win32_ComputerSystem SystemName=YourHostname TagId=0 WaitHint=0
If the bolded lines differ (or output is different in any other major way),, run this:
netsh advfirewall set allprofiles state on
Edit: only "common" problems with the windows firewall not turning on are malware, broken windows installation or illegal license. |

you'll also have to check the firewall on your router (assuming you have one, and are not at uni or something else where you have no access).
and then there's always the age-old "format and reinstall" fix in case it is windows that's misbehaving... One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |
