Having said that: RL German tax rates are higher than those in some English-speaking countries. This presumably influences the perception of what a reasonable tax rate is in general.
ROFL! Functional infrastructure and efficiency! Well, let us agree that everything is relative...
Yet, me too I think Germans are used from RL to pay high taxes, --- and to receive nothing in return for it. Besides having their income heavily taxed, they happily go along with a 19% VAT.

Kind of like me not considering myself British, but English. While I believe germans have a certain proudness built in, bavarians indeed are bavarians, not germans.
They're also much closer to being austrians than germans.

Fosters is an export brand, and it's as terrible as VB. I'm talking about Carlton's range, and Crown Lager, and other quality beers produced in Australia that rarely make their way around the world.
Actually, a US-based member of my alliance says they have Crown Lager where he lives which really surprised me. He confessed on coms that it's one of the best beers he's ever had, and didn't expect that from what is technically a lager. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita.

Castlemaine is one of two Australian companies that between them pretty much own all the beer brands in the country. Castlemaine is responsible for XXXX (four-x), the other terrible Australian beer alongside VB and Fosters. They're also now a Japanese controlled entity, which explains the bad beer.
Australia's best beers, IMO, are Carlton, Toohey's, Hahn and Crown, Crown Lager being my personal favourite. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita.

Oh ****, I nearly left one of our best beers off the list. They're a microbrewery called Bluetongue, in Warnervale NSW. They also make some great lagers and if you want an alternative to American microbrewery ales, which I'll admit can actually be quite nice, Bluetongue have got you covered with much better. As an English person, we pay VAT at 20%, and we probably get a lot worse services than what they have in Germany, because the governments have to stealth tax everyone through the back door to get the funds they need for the services everyone expects but are too much of a miser to want to pay for it directly out of income tax. Germans probably realise this which is why they are more happy to pay for it.
Also I am very sure it does have something to do with the German obsession of achieving maximum efficiency. |
