Your average Sensor Compensation skill (Grav/Ladar/Mag/Radar) description is as follows:
Skill at hardening -type- Sensors against hostile Electronic Counter Measure modules. 4% improved -type- Sensor Strength per skill level.
-type- Sensors are primarily found on -faction- and -faction- ships.
However, when you mouse over any of the four Sensor Strength icons in the Targeting section of the Attributes tab of the Info Screen for any ship/drone, you get this:
-type- Sensor Strength Larger values reduce the chance of being jammed by ECM and assist in avoiding detection by probes
Can we get a bit of clarification on this, please? Do Sensor Compensation skills decrease your signature radius or ability to be probed down somehow that we don't notice? Or will this be implemented at a later stage? Or is it just a mistake? __________________ Chief Executive Officer Instar Heavy Industries |

You literally answered your own stupid question. |

Please try to keep the replies constructive and informative. Points two and four of the Rules of Conduct can be found here in case you're unsure what types of language and behaviour are acceptable in the EVE Forums.
In case the earlier post caused some confusion, the basic question being asked is do Sensor Compensation skills assist in avoiding being scanned down by probes, and if so, how? __________________ Chief Executive Officer Instar Heavy Industries |

Please look up probing mechanics regarding sensor strength for the answer to your question. |

Thanks for the tipoff, Hakaari.
For those others who don't know the answer or have never heard of this mechanic - it turns out that the sensor strength and signature radius of your ship interact to determine how difficult it is to scan you down.
A link explaining how this mechanic works in detail can be found here. __________________ Chief Executive Officer Instar Heavy Industries |

You already indicated you knew this in your own OP. You must be really daft. |

Edit: I was unaware of it myself until just now. A link explaining how this mechanic works in detail can be found here.
The interaction between sensor strength and probes is not something explicitly hinted at in any tutorial that I know of, so I'm not surprised that some are unaware of it. But its the driving mechanic behind the entire concept of unscannable boosting alts. |

Visibility of your ship to combat probes is lower if you lower your signature (size) and increase sensor strength of your ship. When you get ratio of your ship signature (in m) divided by sensor strength lower then 1.08012498, you can't be found with probes AKA your have unprobeable ship |

How would one make an unprobeable ship? By adding Eccm modules? or adding sebos? any suggested fittings and is their only certain types of ships that can do this? for example Could I make a loki or proteus unprobeable? Free Erotica 1 ! There is no such thing as unprobeable, though it used to be possible. However, the higher the ship's scan strength, the harder it is to probe.
The more the sensor strength exceeds the signature size, the more difficult to probe (previously, sensor strength of > 108% of signature size was unprobeable). There is now a cap on the benefit from sensor strength vs. probing.
Plus, modules and implants for probing have been added, so it is now even easier to probe.
The only truly unprobeable objects have a sensor strength of 0. [At one time mobile warp disruptors were unprobeable, so CCP changed their sensor strength to 1.] |
