I have recently started playing the game, and find it quite enjoyable. There is one thing that I personally think is missing, although I feel I might be an exception in this matter.
Npc controlled ships under the command of players or corporations, in action both when the player is online and offline.
The suggestion is quite self explanatory, so I would like to ask for peoples opinion, and suggestions on the matter. I realize that this would be a rather unbalanced concept, so any ideas as to how this could be made balanced?
My initial suggestions on balance would be:
- Finite number of NPCs pr corp/player - Daily cost to keep online - Penalties to mining stats (no infinite farm fleet) - mostly used for defense in the like of CONCORD in low sec space - Must log in every x days to keep them running - They use player owned ships - No tier II modules - Several NPS's for larger ships - No capital ships
I have absolutely no faith in this ever being implemented, but I would still like a hypothetical discussion |

Okay, my hypothetical answer is still no.

The only way you could somewhat "balance" this is by having them work only when you are in space with them. It would give you benefit for putting moe of your own asset at risk in space but replacing human player by NPC is a bad idea. Get corpmates to play with you. |

Not supported.
The point of the game is to get people to interact with each other... for better or worse. "Hiring NPCs" detracts from that and, in some cases, might even discourage people from teaming up with other flesh and blood players. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

The only pets u should get are drones. EVE FAQ "7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY?No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided""So it will be up to a pilot to remain vigilant wherever they may be flying and be ready for anything at any time" |

Unfortunately, OP, this idea has been (like so many) proposed and beaten to the ground SO MANY times, it's almost sad. Hate to burst your bubble, but it will likely receive no different sort of feedback than before.
Drones are the closest thing your gonna get to this concept of adding npc "followers", my friend. Want followers/companions, play Skyrim or Fallout 3/Vegas. They even have tons of followers thanks to the modding community. I know you're probably thinking, "Well, Skyrim's not anything like Eve." Well, that's kind of the point. Eve needs to stay unique, at least I believe it should. |

I figured as much, but searching both google and the forums gave absolutely no results, so I gave it a shot
I realize it's an unpopular idea, but I find it slightly unemersive that there isn't a way to hire NPC's to do your bidding, when there are clearly non- cabsuler pilots in EVE. |

I respect Shah's opinion on this, but I must point out the detail not being aired.
Shah seems to assume that worthwhile group play can be incentivized as the lesser of two evils, for players not interested otherwise in social interaction. Players who like mixing with others would not be stopped by the option to have what is effectively fancier drones.
Put another way, if NPC use satisfies your gaming needs, so that you then avoid interacting with players.... are we so sure we want to push you into interacting with others that much? Upgrading Local to Eliminate All AFK Influence What if Local Chat changed, Hunting the Cloaked... |

Thing is Nikk... because NPCs would offer advantages (no matter how nominal) it would, in effect, make having NPC "helpers" mandatory for everyone (because you'd be dumb not to take advantage of it).
Basically it just raises the base cost of efficiency in every aspect of the game. And Malcanis' Law also applies here too. Older, richer players would not have any problems getting the most and best NPCs to help them... while younger, poorer players would not.
Then there are PvP battles. Oh god... a 10 vs. 10 person fight would easily turn into a 100 man brawl if everyone can bring 5 NPCs to help them. And the "solo" person who brings 5 NPCs to help him/her will STILL get nuked by the half dozen outlaws who bring their own NPCs.
And then you have balancing issues... how smart should they be... they are too smart... too dumb... etc. etc.
The idea is a "can of worms" that just does not need to be opened. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

Judging by your earlier posts drowning in your own tears about suicide gank alts, I'm going to say you live in highsec. Way to perpetuate the stereotype. Thanks for that.
Moving on swiftly, if you lose your highsec POS then it's your own fault for not pulling the tower down when a wardec notice comes in. Failing that, it's still your own fault for not putting stront in the bay and onlining some hardeners. Very few people will bother with a shield-hardened POS in highsec and fewer of them will come back to finish the job after seeing the tower go into reinforced.
You don't need NPCs to protect you. Common sense, the ability to form a coherent thought and an IQ higher than six will do. Difficult for the average highsec carebear, I know. |

Except POS's do have NPC's to defend them. Turrets.
Also the difference between drones and proposed NPC's is the types and amounts of drones that can be fielded is balanced for each ship. Hiring NPC's wont be.
It is just a bad idea to give a falcon pilot brawley NPC support. It is equally bad to give a kiting orthrus thingy the option of having lots of tacklers.
Just no, many many times no. EVE FAQ "7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY?No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be completely avoided""So it will be up to a pilot to remain vigilant wherever they may be flying and be ready for anything at any time" |

What if these inherited some of the drone limitations, specifically the inability to warp between grids.
A drone left without the responsible player, going offline and becoming a target for being scooped up.
Perhaps this would be better explained as simply, what if one of your drones could cannibalize one of your T1 ships for it's fittings and bonuses?
A one way transaction, so you should best guard that drone carefully.
Also, the bandwidth on this thing would leap higher, to 100 or 125.
Just brainstorming. Upgrading Local to Eliminate All AFK Influence What if Local Chat changed, Hunting the Cloaked... |
