The Local Warp Disruption Field Inhibitor, and What It Would Do
The Warp Disruption Field Inhibitor is a station upgrade that would prevent interdiction fields from affecting ships within a 300 meter radius of a station. If a ship is in docking range, it will be able to warp away from the station, no matter how many bubbles are in play.
What is this feature for?
The purpose of the Local Warp Disruption Field Inhibitor station upgrade is to give local defenders a means of fighting back on terms that are not wholly dictated by an invading force. By adding this feature, there should be greater odds of seeing the defender fight back in the event of incursion or sovereignty contest, without needing multiple alternate staging points to do so.
What the Local Warp Disruption Field Inhibitor Is not supposed to do
A sphere of universal bubble immunity could easily be abused to completely avoid siege warfare with almost every class of ship - rather contrary to giving defenders an opportunity to fight back in the face of large scale bubble camps. To prevent this, the LWDFI would not allow capitals to use their jump drives, and its range would be limited to 300 meters - the docking radius of a station.
Possible design problems
While it is not meant to be a get out of jail free card, insta-bookmarks are a simple and obvious work around to the LWDFI's proposed limitations. Some sort of mechanic would be needed to prevent this form of abuse.
If implemented as a station service, the Warp Disruption Field Inhibitor is an obvious first priority target for any invading force, and would be disabled almost immediately on arrival.
The station upgrade would likely need to operate indiscriminately - anyone within the docking radius of the station would gain immunity to warp disruption fields. Roaming fleets could use this to their advantage, and might disengage more easily than they might otherwise be able to.
What do you think?
It's been a while since I've lived in null security space, and it's entirely possible that this is a terrible, undesirable idea for everyone living there. Never the less, I'd love to know your thoughts on the idea!
