So I haven't played EvE in about 3 years. I get back in and I see a crap ton of changes. My old method of running missions seems to be out the window. I use to use the Fed Navy Lvl 4 agent in Dodixie using my Domi. Well now these high sec agents pay crap so you make little money, even with the bounty and loot. Plus my old tactic of warping in, letting the rats agro me, then launch my drones and pick them off one by one is no longer valid. They switch targets now!
So my question is: What's the new tactic? I assume running missions in .5 is still pretty decent in terms of payouts, but what about domi tactics now? Or is it no longer useful for missions. I see it's price went up like 4x what is was when I last played. It's nearly as much as a Hyperion now. So demand for the ship seems to have gone up. Though I don't know why. |

Domi is a superb mission runner -- if you use sentries, watch them, and take good care of them. It has near-unparalleled damage projection even after a couple of kicks in the teeth. MJD sentry fits are more or less great.
As for the price.... That's mostly unrelated. First, the mineral cost is now on par with the Hyperion. All BS hulls have roughly the same build cost now, as do all cruiser hulls, BC hulls, etc. That's the majority of the price increase right there. The rest is due to the fact that people are indeed flying -- and losing -- Domis in actual combat. Some of the other BS hulls are lagging due to massive overbuilding before the cost increase but not the Dominix. |

Oh yeah I know the Domi can take a beating. That's why I love it. My current (well, technically old) fit allows me to perma tank anything a lvl 4 mission can through at me. Hell, I solo tanked a 7/10 out in 0.0 back in the day. Almost was able to solo tank a 10/10. Had the end up doing the dual repping domi tank to run that though.
So sentries are good now? I used them in PvP back in the day with rails, but never really saw them as effective mission drones. I mean those frigs that get close to you during missions would be hard for them to hit right? Or did they change something? Also the MJD is a completely new module to me. I can see it being useful to GTFO from a situation quickly, but how is it used in a mission running domi setup? |

Yeah the Sentry Domi is a staple in 0.0 warfare. So they go pop all the time which keeps the price at a healthy level.
And yeah, they are amazing PVE boats. The Sentry Domi is probably the most versatile tech 1 PVE boat out there. MJD out to 100km, drop your range bonused sentry drones, and blap stuff. Or brawl with Gardes up close.
Also there are drone damage mods and tracking computers now. So you can pump up the damage, range, and tracking of sentry drones quite a bit beyond what the Domi's hull bonus already does. |

The Dominix is a good ship if you have good drone skills. A MJD Dominix is especially good for lower skilled pilots. Now that T1 and faction sentries got a big buff even more so.
If you have have good gunnery or missile skills there are better choices for general mission running. Even with high skills I still use a MJD Dominix for AE since it makes that mission easy. I'm sure a Machariel would be so much better but I don't want to spend the ISK.
With the drone aggro madness drone ships are just too much aggravation for general mission running. That's just me and this may not bother some. Also every time you pull a drone in you lose 20% DPS.

I have level 5 on every single drone skill except fighter bombers. Also maybe some race drone skills. I'd have to look. So from what I've gathered so far, I don't have to have the MJD since I have high skills. (I have max armor skills, cap skills, ships skills, etc.) Plus that saves my old perma tank fit. My old perma tank fit has Cap Recharger IIs in all the med slots. I also have an EANM II, 2 Kinetic and 1 Thermal Armor Hardener (because I'm fighting Serpentis mainly), a DCU II, and 2 Large Armor Reps IIs. |

It'll work but not so great. The permatank won't help since if you AFK all your drones will be dead.
Instead of low slots filled with tank fit at least 3 drone damage amplifiers. You need at least two preferably three omnidirectional tracking links in the mids. The MJD also helps to keep range since it's easier to kill stuff approaching at 70 km than orbiting at 5km. Also your drones will take less damage at range.
Are your skills limited to drones or do you have good gunnery or missile skills? |

I have almost 5 mil skill points in gunnery. Like I have lvl 5 large hybrid turrets and lvl 4 large railgun specialization. In terms of the other pertinent skills, I only have sharpshooter and motion prediction at lvl 5. The rest are lvl 4 or below. |

I've never been crazy about them but some swear by the blaster Kronos. Perhaps I should fit one and try it but they're not cheap. Guns on a Dominix don't really do anything since they removed the bonus. The Navy Dominix still gets a hybrid damage bonus but lacks drone range and tracking bonuses of the regular Dominix. |

I run a Rattlesnake and a T1 Domi.
The rattlesnake is a lot more work but does finish missions a touch quicker.
The Domi is pretty much MJD 100km away and launch bouncers and kill everything. Its very rare I even need to turn the repper on, I finish some missions with full shields.
This is my current mission fit optimised for 100-120 km with bouncers. Note I do not claim this is a particularly good fit, it just is what works for me.
My Mission Alt runs this shooting with bouncers (100-120km) :
[Dominix, Medium Skills] Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II Drone Damage Amplifier II - OR - Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II (swap depending on mission) Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane II Damage Control II Large Armor Repairer II

Tracking speed scripts because due to stacking penalty with rigs. Tanks easily with everything except Guristas. Can tank them but you have to be careful. You can use a second EANM but I prefer the safety of the DC. Auto targeting systems are just to allow you to target more rats.

rattlesnake can get more than double that at around 80km optimal without t2 sentry or t2 missile skills. another 400dps on top of that with t2s or can even get more range.
I would strongly suggest you look into getting a rattle if you have perfect drone skills, just getting missile skills if you are missing that.

Yeah +1 for the Rattlesnake. I'm running x5 Rapid HML and diggin it. High precision T2 ammo on these things makes short work of cruisers and frigs. I was pretty surprised how fast battleships will die using T2 high damage missiles with x2 sentries on them. They just blow the hell up. Although the 35 sec reload is pretty brutal, it's not really a prob. A Paranoid is just someone with all the facts - William Burroughs |

The Rattlesnake is the obvious progression up from the Domi once people have the skills for it. |

Also, side note, dont discount range that much on the domi, its good at that and given the average dps of longer range sentrys, can buy you more time to kill stuff, also cruise batteries :) |

FYI: NPC warp disruption in missions does not shut down the MJD, so it basically makes you unkillable in L4 missions since you can just jump out of point range and warp off if you need to.

You said NPC warp disruption does not shut down MJD now. Is that also the case in other PVE areas such as COSMOS mission areas & deadspaces? |

What? Sentries have always been an excellent PVE weapon system. Dunno where you got that idea.
