So I'm living here out in null sec and for the most part it's great but recently we have had a system camper who sits cloaked up somewhere in space. He's on pretty much from downtime to downtime so we don't even have much of a chance to scan him down. This has been going on for about a week now so this whole time we couldn't really rat or mine at all due to the chance of him dropping a fleet on us. But while there's that risk, he usually is afk just sitting there. Unfortunately, there is no way of us knowing that. And we can't really move systems since the one we're in has and valuable resources which we need and such. So pretty much this guy makes the system inaccessible just by being afk in space cloaked up. So I came up with some ideas CCP could implement to stop such activity.
1. The first one would be to have some sort of fuel that is used while a ship is cloaked up and would slowly get used up over time. It would work much like the cyno fuel, as soon as it is used up, the character becomes visible to everyone else and they would have to get more fuel. The time on the fuel should be pretty long so that you don't have to constantly get more, but it should be a reasonable amount of time so that a character cannot just stay cloaked up infinitely in system like this guy is in ours. I think there should be enough fuel for a regular player to go on a long cloaky roam and still have fuel remaining but not enough for a single player to remain cloaked up in space for days on end.
2. Another solution would be to have some sort of module for a POS that would be able to send out a signal every 5-6 or so hours that would uncloak all of the people in that system. By doing this, it would eliminate the problem of this camper but by having such a long cool down timer, it would eliminate the possibility of people abusing it and constantly uncloaking everyone in system. While maybe a whole system would be too much, one should be able to select up to like 5 or so people in local which they want to uncloak. They long cool down timer would still be in place.
3. The third solution would be to have some sort of icon appear in local next to the character's name if they have been afk in a system for some period of time. I would think somewhere between 30 minutes to an hour would be pretty good. While this could work, I could also see the camper having a macro that would press a button or something so that it would appear as if he is at his computer the whole time. But if there could be a solution that eliminates that, something which detects a distinct pattern in the keystrokes possibly, then this third idea would potentially work as well.
Hopefully one of these ideas or something similar to them could be considered for implementation within the game. I know that if this afk null sec camper problem is solved, not only will it help me and my corp, but also other null sec players.

Two, and I'm starting to think they've got this idea that if they just spam the forums eventually they'll get some attention.
I swear they are literally going to that old thread that lists the suggestions for fixes for AFK cloaking and copying them piecemeal. There hasn't been an original suggestion for a fix in several weeks. Wait, CCP kills kittens now too?!-á - Freyya

The best way to get rid of nullsec system campers is to leave the system they're camping.
Oh, your alliance only rented one system and you're not allowed to rat/mine/PI outside of it on penalty of being shot and kicked from your corp? Whoops, too bad. Not CCP's problem that you're a space-serf.
You could always leave nullsec and live in lowsec. It comes with amazing features like halfway-decent markets (not nearly as good as highsec, but w/e), automatic docking rights at any station you like and an instant upgrade from space-serf to space-peasant (the difference is enormous). |

Haven't seen much trouble from our renters with the campers.
I think in Branch there were a few, but then some of the people living there caught the badguys a few times and got nice killmails. Vale was home to a few "renters" who apparently were crazy pvpers in disguise, and they, too, got a few combat blops killmails. ^^ Delicious goon ((tech nerf, siphon, drone assist, supercap)) tears.

Seriously, all these are ideas that have been posted for 5-7 years now. Lots of people are unhappy with AFK cloakers, but CCP hasn't felt the need to address this and there is no reason to suggest they'll be changing their mind anytime soon. It's a risk, you'll need to have a self defense plan up, and learn to live with it. |

Plenty of campers about, some systems get shutdown by them.
The best strategy is to either rent 2 systems (even as far apart as one in Vale and one in PB), or have a cross agreement with another corp to rat in their system, and once you move, the camper is either camping nothing, or risking the gates themselves, and your best chance of killing them is at the gates.
its basically people that are pathologically attached to their deadends that won't adapt to campers.

Upon further inspection, I believe I have identified the matter at the heart of the AFK Cloaking problem and thus identified the solution to it.
The problem is not AFK Cloaking. The problem is renting and the agreed-to constraints and restrictions that renters allow to be put upon them. If you aren't a renter you can rat and mine and roam anywhere you like with no fear of repercussion or reprisal.
Thus, I say for the good of all New Eden:
NERF RENTING, NOT CLOAKS!

If I am cloaked, I can decloak, tackle you, and light a cyno. So yes, a cloaked pilot is still dangerous.

Only a fool would rat in such circumstances, unless they are using a ship cheap enough so the profits outweight the loss (unlikely). This isn't an argument for or against AFK cloaking. It's an argument against bad arguments against AFK cloaking.
No, it's not. Because that person didn't tackle you and light a cyno while he was AFK, he did it while he was hunting you.
Only a fool would rat in null without a means to defend themselves. Take a look at how WHers live without local. Everyone contributes to the ratting even if they're just watching the entrance, and everyone gets a share of the earnings.
The problem is you assume that all of the income from ratting belongs to the person who shot the rats, and don't bother organizing anyone else in your corp or alliance to support you in the process. You lose days or weeks of time you could be earning income because you are greedy and too lazy to get other people involved in the process.
One or two scouts will give you an almost 100% survival rate. Getting corp members who aren't interested in ratting or don't have the skills to fly a ship fit for ratting the sites benefits the entire corp. Wait, CCP kills kittens now too?!-á - Freyya

Crap like this makes me think while a bit draconian, it kind of made sense and more place should try it out. An alliance should not have bad posters making them look bad. Like what we have here. |

While I admit telling OP to "grow a pair" may be a bit much, it's not unfair to make a point that is counter to OP's view, especially on a topic that's a dead horse.
It's also not unfair to say this thread makes it look like OP has a guy in his system and he's venting. |

That afk camper is probably doing a really good job of shutting down their mining bots, so I approve of afk cloaking. Even though the irony of both the camper and the miners not being at their keyboards is hilarious. Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction... |
