Atm, thiefs can still get away mostly untouched if they know the gamemechanics. No exploit but hard at the borders. So here¦s what I came up with:
- make thiefing timer an aggression timer which makes it unable to jump or dock for the usual amount of time
- no more taking from cans after you gave the warp command
After this, theifs still got options to get away and to get cought. But it makes them vulnerable again. Atm a clever thief is invulnerable. I experienced this myself in both ways.

How about thieves get concorded just like those who attack players
They make big bangs... and they're mine... all mine! Hahahaha! |

How about destroying cans flags you like stealing from them?
That at least is consistant and not an "omg there are nasty people in the game..."
Sigh.

I'm with Maya on this one. Especially secure cans. There should be a way to kill those things without getting nuked.
Griefers could use it to pop keys in complexes, I suppose, but they can already just take the stuff, so it's wouldn't be too ruinous.

Not sure what you mean.

She means to have the same penalty for popping a can with guns that you have for popping it by looting it.
Right now, I can fly up, take your loot or jetcan so that it explodes and I have its contents, and all I get is a limited criminal flag to your and your corp. No security hit, no CONCORD, no sentry turrets firing at me.
But if I shoot it, it's as though I shot at your ship. Global criminal flag, security loss, and CONCORD and turrets rearrange my face.
Rather than making stealing as bad as shooting, Maya's suggesting that we make shooting as mild as stealing.
I support the notion as a way to reduce the number of secure anchored cans by shooting them when nobody's looking. Year-old sign cans offering services from corps that no longer operate in the area are silly, and belt cans are both an eyesore and a lag problem.

Nah. Shooting a can and getting concordokkend for it is fine. Imagine the consequenses if this would come. All that is missing the make the system perfect is that thiefs get not only the thiefing timer of 15 minutes, they should be unable to dock or jump for 1-2 minutes like with an aggression timer if you shot at your corp mate so they wont be invulnerable.

I dont believe that any changes should be made for can stealing, and that if any changes come about it shold only be to take off the concord aggro fro destroying cans.
If you are mining into a jet can make sure it is well protected, or that in the event that it is stolen you are able to defend it. It is your job to defend your propety not concords.

Well, constructively, I'll agree that you shouldn't be able to access cans after you activate your warp drive.
But I don't think we need stronger anti-thieving rules. I was a victim of ore thieving on more than one occasion, and have had plenty of complex loot jacked by punks in fast ships. I do it myself when I find macroers in belts or complexes.
If you're getting robbed, then either pump and jump or go someplace else or have a corp mate sit there with a warp scrambler and some guns. CCP shouldn't adapt the world to help you survive, you should adapt to survive in the world we've got.

I think it would be a nice idea if instead of the timer continue to count down when docked it would go up 5 minutes after every 60 seconds docked.
So if the thief stayed docked for 10 minutes he would have a 50 minute flagging and if the theif logged the timer would stay at its current count then add on the time between when the player logged off to when he logged back on.
So say he docked for 10 minutes got 50 minute can flaggin and decided to log for a day when he logged back on he would be flagged for a day and 50 minutes. The only way to stop the timer would be destroyin his ship or him giving back the ore he took.

It's fine the way it is. Pausing the countdown while docked, or even resetting it, wouldn't be too bad, but I don't see why it's worth it.

Edited by: Roddic on 28/06/2006 01:27:57 i really dont understand what the problem is with jet can minning, if you want to stop them taking a can of ore(or at least make it annoying), give them chioces.
1 round of iron charge S in 100 cans and then your can. the trick is then to remember wich can you are using.
i've used this trick a few times, the ore thieves tend to move on, especially if you minning low ends.

The problem, as I understand it, is that people approach the can then loot the second before they warp out so there's practically no window to engage them during, right?
How about, then, we just make it take a little longer, say five seconds, to loot a can that would flag you to loot. During that five seconds you are flagged. You still have to be vigilant about watching people who are getting too close to your can so you can scramble them in that five seconds, but it is humanly possible to scram them. -----------------------------------------------------------

Good idea. Say it takes five seconds for the cargo bay to close after scooping something, so your warp drive is out of commission. Or whatever, but the opportunity to scram between the yoink and the flee would be terrific.
