Great news, and I will add some more positive energy to this chain on EVE-O GD forum.
Kudos everyone! That is the spirit of EVE, we have lots of fun in game collecting the awesome tears but when the situation call for support, RL, we are proud of our community.
Thank you all for letting me being part of it.
And Remiel, keep this energy and behavior, it will make you stronger.

I can't say I like you much. At least your whiny, entitled, me, me, me in-game character.
Here's the thing. I know there is a real person on the other side of the avatar and I'm glad to hear that things are looking positive for him. I've seen too much misery from that disease not to feel for you and I'm glad it's working out.
I'll still treat you like the little brat that you are when you're back on your feet, though.

Pilot Remiel!! GRATS BRO!! Be sure to pay attention to what your medical team tells you to do, and believe me when I found out I literally blew up and that set the fires of a good fight alight and got me thru it all. My treatments were easy and really I had no side effects (course that's me tho). For you it can be different BUT don't ever give up, hang in there and you'll be like me, A WINNER!!!. |

Once again, the community here shows its true colours, everyone is awesome, apart from what I can only gather was at least one post looking for trouble but, there's not much getting me down right now. Truth be told, I'm feeling pretty damned mighty, although it's an uncomfortable kind of mighty cuz I'm gassy as hell, although you probably didn't need to know that.
I just slept for almost 8 hours straight, that's the longest sleep I've had in one go in quite literally many years. Although, it was thanks to some fairly potent drugs. A nurse brought me something to 'munch' on this morning, and by munch I mean slurp. Apparently, I've got a blood test and a few scans coming up today, and then I actually get to go home later this evening. And yes, a few rounds of chemo as well over the coming weeks.
Lady Areola Fappington is right, stomach cancer can be a real killer. I've been incredibly scared. When I found out, I kinda lost my ****. If you look through my KB there's a 1bil deadspace fit Ishkur loss in there that happened on the day, followed by a few other losses that shouldn't have happened. That was the day I got the news. I also told my own mother on the phone that day that she could burn - she wanted to arrange a family gathering for everyone to see me before my surgery, and I didn't really want to see anyone. I immediately regretted it but the state I was in wouldn't let me show it. Anyway, I apologised a few days later but my mum is awesome, she knew I didn't mean it and she didn't care.
Anyway, ended up seeing my family last weekend... or rather, they saw me before I went to hang out with my brother at this 'gathering' and just ignored everybody. I'm not a fan of most of my family, even when I'm well. They don't seem to do much unless they're obliged. My brother'll just hang out for the sake of it. But hell, one of my cousins showed up and thought it was my birthday. My mum had a massive go at him for being an insensitive prick, I just laughed. I spent most of it with just hangin' with my brother but in cases where I had to actually see someone, I just made it as awkward for them as possible. Intentionally.
Anyway, I'm probably just rambling. These drugs are amazing. I'll be logging in in a few hours maybe, we'll see. I don't like playing EVE on my laptop, not having a second monitor makes it all kinda cluttered and ugly... I might just update my skills then turn it off and read a book. I brought Michael Crichton's latest, Binary. I've had this book for months now and still haven't turned the first page. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita.

Don't forget to tell your mother how much she is awesome, ask her to read aloud 3 or 4 pages of the book for you when you feel the drugs effects.
It's a long battle and you are ready for it, and you will win!
Sorry my English, it's not my native language, if I was fluent on it I cold say some more things, but I'm pretty sure you don't need to read lots of stories as you are making your own.
I would not wish a GF to be happening tho and I really think you will tackle, jam, explode, pod and smack-talk that disease with easy.
Keep flying safe and let us know.

Did tests, slept some more, had some drugs, and I'm actually feeling pretty damn good. Did I mention you guys are the greatest? I don't have many friends apart from my brother, mother and little sister, so I know I don't know you all in person but you're all kinda like my only friends right now, if you'll accept the cheesiness and patheticness of this loner's good graces. Anyway, still won't be logging onto EVE right now, wifi here is terrible, I might be on later tonight when I get home if I don't just go straight to bed.

I don't think I'll have that much of a battle tbh. I mean, I'm feeling quite 'off' tonight, but probably only cuz I just came out of surgery today. Definitely having a very early bed time tonight. I haven't begun any proper treatment just yet, that starts after the weekend, but the surgery was really easy to get through, apart from some discomfort. Other than that, I can't say what I'm in for. I've got two follow up checkups to go to, one in six months and then another six months after that. Chemo is supposed to be supplementary, and it's going to be a rather short regime for me apparently. Apparently, I got very lucky. Stomach cancers are difficult to detect as early as mine was found.
I do know what I've been through though - while the physical trauma hasn't been stacks on for me, the psychological trauma has been fairly high. I don't really have many people to help me through it, and I never realised it before but just being told you have cancer is like getting slapped in the face while simultaneously taking a taser charge in the back - it was like a shock went down my spine and I went all flush. I was broken for days.
I'm feeling very optimistic, to be honest, and I probably can't say I know what other cancer victims are going through. I don't think I'll ever be able to lay claim to the suffering of those that have had it much worse than me. It's not over for me yet though, and I'm still personally nervous that it's still creeping around inside me somewhere waiting for the doctors to stop watching or something, I dunno. Tonight, I'm just doing a little ratting and taking it easy. You don't scare me. I've been to Jita.

I don't know you but I wish you well.
When you've been through serious illness it can leave you with a renewed appreciation for even the smallest things in life.
For example, one day you might see me in my defenceless T1 explorer filled with loot and think, "Oh, there's that Kotch guy from the forum. I'm going to gank him and take his stuff." But then you'll see how truly wonderful and joyous it would be to let me go, because **** cancer. |

Hehe.... nah. If someone were to spare me in-game just because I had cancer, I'd be VERY disappointed in their inability to separate the game from reality.
