Hi, my question is about apps for devices like the iPhone that integrate with EVE Online. In browsing the app store, I saw several apps, but I was wondering if there is an official one or one that's endorsed by CCP?
Thanks!! |

No on both counts, pretty much all of the out of game apps are from players.

I use Aura for Android, and I think I heard Neocom is popular for iPhone. |

I really think CCP is missing an opportunity here. You arent the first to ask about this and it seems like it would be a nice addition to the game-mix they are going for in the future.
Aside from an official app.. for all of you app-devs out there.. I would love to see an Android app that allows me to wager ISK in the form of gambling like the poker, betting, and lottery sites that are currently available.

Please. The player community is the central figure of the EVE experience. CCP wants to provide tools so that the players can provide the content.
In other words, CCP supplies API organization, its the players job to create apps/sites/databases based off this information that can be utilized in a way to create content for fellow EVE players.
Plus, do you know how expensive it would be to hire an entire extra team solely to work on API apps and programs? |

Only issue with that, any App will not be able to actively change anything that is related to the game (this includes your bank balance).
For 2 simple reasons:
It's based on a read only API.
And more importantly, it's against the EULA. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

I've tried them all (for Android) and have found that Evenova is the best. Funny how that worked out.

Neither of which would prevent an app similar to the websites that are already up and going. Isk is donated in game, balances are maintained separately in-app, and cashed out in game. It works for eve-bet right now (and I love it), having it in an app with a prettier interface would be nice. "Leave the gun. Take the cannoli."-á |

All Windows tablets should be able to run the Windows apps available. A decent Windows tablet can run the EVE client just fine on lows settings.

I use Eve Droid Beta on android. It reminds me when the skill queue isn't full anymore and checks my mail.
Our alliance also has a home built app called EvePing used by the leaders to send out alliance wide notifications. |

Thanks for the replies guys, I guess I'm just weary of giving my account details out to the makers of these apps, which is why I would strongly prefer an app made by CCP. |

You don't give out your account details. In fact, any app that asks for your account details is immediately suspect. Never give out login name or password to anyone, anywhere for any reason. The apps need API keys, that's all. Most of them work with limited API keys with just the minimum permissions relevant to what the app does (eg EVEMon doesn't need asset information) |

Only difference is that it doesnt changes the game. You need the game in the first place to log in and make the donation.
And CCP wont do it....Sandbox and Player created content...ever heard about that.

Ooh you are one of those guys.
Please, go read up what an API is before complaining.
An API does NOT give anybody your accountdetails (why would CCP make it in the first place if it did).
It gives information about your account and only as much as you let it. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Right. I never proposed anything other than that, if you'd read what I wrote. Ever heard about that?

I clearly didn't ask CCP to do it, I asked someone that has app-dev skills (which are fairly common these days - just not my skillset) to create a player-ran app similar to the websites already in play. Someone like Eve-Bet or the Eve poker guys who already have a lot of the infrastructure built.
