I want to find my lost depot in a system... I said no problem. Got my Expanded Launcher, and got to work on it.
Problem is...
There are zillions of structures in that system and filtering for Mobile Depot does NOT filter out all those zillion of POS structures.
So for those who know how to do this... Help!!!
How do I probe for a Mobile Depot w/o going through 100 POS structures first?
This is not anymore about lost mobile depot, but more about learning to do such a task...

Use overview settings with D-scan to filter out the POS modules as best you can, then use D-scan with narrowed range and changing the distance to determine possible locations of your depot. Use probes with a small radius to check those places. If you put your depot in a safe well away from any celestials you should manage to find it without TOO much trouble.
Oh yes, and D-scan works WITH the system map up, which is what you definitely need.
edit: Honestly it will be even faster just to manually hit "ignore" individually for any structure near a celestial and then scan down and check the remaining signatures. Again, i hope your depot isn't near a celestial or you're done for. |

You can create a custom filter that only shows Mobile Depots. Click the 4-bars to the left the filter-selection drop down box. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=331004 - thank me later |

Yeah, be my guest in trying that. I thought so too... :)
It does not work. It will list everything until you get signs over a certain percent. I selected ONLY "mobile depot" group from the filter and all I got was "8 filtered" out, dunno why 8. ALL the rest of structures where still chillaxing in the list. |

I think this is the only solution. However, d-scan works with the system map up? What exactly do you mean by that?

Good info.
However, I'd like to add one more thing - always make a bookmark. Whether it's wrecks, safespots, POS / Depot locations, etc, ALWAYS BOOKMARK
It's much easier and faster to delete or erase a bookmark later then it is to relocate an area you were at previously.

you can open the system map, enable your tracking camera, select a scan angle ~30deg or so, set your scan range... you can get an idea of exactly where what you're seeing on d-scan might be located. this is not a definitive solution but will aid you in probe constellation placement.
i wonder if the custom filters are bugged... i remember having a similar issue with things showing up on scan that weren't included in the filter.
ah well. we all learned something today, eh? o/ https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=331004 - thank me later |
