Some people would like the ability to assign ship bonuses themselves. While allowing them to assign bonuses would completely imbalance the game, giving them the ability to add one bonus to their ship might not destroy the potential balance of the game (think of it as basically an implant for ships). Merely give each ship a type of ship implant, to which the player can assign one "ship bonus" skill to the ship.
Now to assign a ship bonus, the player must build the ship bonus module. This would be a new item (exactly like implants) which would have a ship type, and a bonus attached to it. So if you wanted to give your thorax a Bonus to speed, you have to build/find a ship implant module that has a velocity bonus, that fits cruisers. For a frigate, you have to find a frigate module. For BattleCruisers, a battlecruiser module, etc etc.
The reason for the ship designation assignment is for balance. The last thing we need is for a person to equip a ship implant module meant for a battleship into a frigate.
Negatives for ship implants.
1) Only 1 ship implant can be equipped to a ship 2) The only way to remove the implant is to repackage the ship (which at the same time, destroys the insurance)* 3) While a ship implant gives you a bonus to something, it also gives you a negative to something else.
*This can be changed to merely destroying the ship implant by inserting a new ship implant
Yes all ship implants have a negative factor to them (meaning in order to boost one of your systems, it needs to reduce power/effectivness of a different system). A damage ship implant might reduce your firing rate, a Range ship implant might reduce your damage output, a tracking implant might reduce your signal strength, A resistance implant might reduce your structure hit points, etc etc. Some implants might do more dramatic changes to a ship than the above ones do. For instance, shifting a percentage of shield hit points over to armor hit points, Increasing eccm potential while reducing web potential, reducing signature radius by reducing structure hit points, increase potency of cap rechargers while reducing potential of vampires and neutralizers. etc etc.
What this system does is allow ships to be able to be customized to the type of player.
---------------The Low Sec Issue------------- Gatecamps that kill all who pass with no remorse and in many cases, no possible way of retaliation, is not PVP. |
