Edited by: Simon Monkoto on 29/06/2006 09:26:34 Ok folks this is driving me bonkers. I have a passively shield tanked ferox that can usually take anything any level 3 mission can throw at it with ease. But this mission has me stumped. I've tried several different fittings with no success in getting past the third spawn. Here are some of the setups I have tried:
Setup #1
Hi:
5 x Heavy Missile Launchers loaded with Thunderbolts 2 x 200mm Railguns
Med:
1 EM hardener (active) 1 Thermal hardener (active) 1 Shield recharger 2 Large Shield Extender Is
Low:
2 x PDU 2 X Shield Power Relay
Setup #2
Hi:
5 x Heavy Missile Launchers loaded with Thunderbolts 2 x 200mm Railguns
Med:
1 EM hardener (active) 1 Thermal hardener (active) 3 x Large Shield Extender Is
Lows:
2 x PDU 2 x Shield Power Relay
Setup #3
Hi:
5 x Heavy Missile Launchers loaded with Thunderbolts 2 x 200mm Railguns
Med:
1 EM hardener (active) 1 Thermal hardener (active) 1 Shield recharger
Lows:
4 x Shield Power relays (cap doesn't matter much on a missile boat)
I'm using 5 light drones (acolytes) on each of these setups as well. So as it stands now I'm not sure what to try next. Knowledge is power For I walk in the Valley of the Shadow of Death, I will fear no evil. |

Maybe try setup #1 but drop the recharger for a 2nd EM hardener and one of the lowslots for a damage control?

I had a lot of problems with this one last night too. I got around the problems by doing tow things.
1. I switched to widowmakers (thermal) - If you check the eve info site here: linky! you'll see that although it says to use thunderbolts, widowmakers do more damage to most of the rats listed in the mission (on armor as sanshas are armor tankers) 2. I fitted a target painter in place of the shield recharger.
The missions was still difficult, but great fun, more like this please CCP
My setup is something like this (in work atm can't really remember)
High: 5 x xr-3200 heavy missile bay 2 x small tractor beam (could use 150mm rails for the frigs) Med: 1 x EM Hardeer (Tech 2) 1 x Therm Hardener (tech 2) 1 x phased weapon navigation array generation extron 2 x Large Shield Extender II Low: 1 x BCU 2 x Shield power relay 1 x Power diag
I also have 5 hobgoblins
Note: I was a research alt that has become a mission running main, so although I'm reasonably old, I don't have a lot of combat related skills, yet

For the 3rd stage of Massive Attack, grab a shuttle and warp to the spawn. You'll get popped, but since the NPCs won't attack pods you're free to setup some bookmarks to warp in at range. The easiest thing to do would be to would be to just create a bookmark where your pod is at and warp to it at 80-100km, but another thing you can do is setup two bookmarks at 70-80km from each other. This way if you need to warp out, you can warp back in to the other bookmark and the hostiles should be about 80km from you, in theory.
If you can, you should train for T2 hardeners and extenders and get the BC skill to at least L3 since it makes this mission alot easier. Once you get your shield skills high enough and have good enough gear, you should be able to drop your Shield Power Relays for Ballistic Controls.
Another thing to be aware of is that Sansha rats use tracking disruptors which kill your optimal and tracking on the rails. ----------- -phreak

this... is why I use 5x 250mm rails
and not heavy launchers

Use 5 heavys missle lauchers limos or better idealy to take out crusers and bc's 2, 280mm carbides for the frigs and drones at least 3 of em to kill the frigs in combination with the heavy missiles. Only aggro the closest frigs first and use thermal attacks as sansha armour tank and there armour is week vs thermal.
Fit 3 large shield extenders an em and thermal hardener
4 shield power relays
I find that my cap graduallt draines but i can handle 120dps or more with this setup and i have low combat skills as im finishing learning atm.
attack one group at a time and u should be fine
hope that helps

Done it in an extremely fast AF with T2 rails. The trick for me was to whack some of the gun towers for a bit. They respawn, but if 2 are left, the damage is sustainable. Then zip over to the boss and take him down while tanking the swarmers.

I do that mission in my passive tanked artillery cyclone, and what I do is take the gate, right as you get in and stop, bookmark the location, and warp out, then warp in at like 60km or so. Since it's not deadspace you can get away with this. In fact it makes all of the rooms that much easier when you can choose your range like this.

I had trouble with this until I refitted my guns after level 2 for short range.
I was in a Cyclone, and fitted 5x 220mm Vulcans, 2 Heavy Missile lnchrs
Then, when I went in and the frigs were all over me, they got popped quite quickly. I aligned back the way I came. After the frigs have gone, and you have put distance between yourself and the cruisers, BM a can or something, warp out and refit long range (in my case, arty)
The last level, however, had to get a friendly local to help, the ships and sentries respawn so quick it's untrue. If you try and concentrate on the overseer alone, you get mullah'd by everyone else.

Thanks for all the great advice. I've now run this mission several times in my Ferox. There are some great omber roids in that 3rd room also. If you choose to drop a bookmark in your shuttle, simply warp align once you enter the room, drop your bookmark, then warp out. You should be able to get in and out without taking a hit. Cheers.

This may help, I use this method to do L3 missions without too much hassle even though my combat skills aren't really suitable for tackling L3 missions yet.
If the rats don't instantly target you then use your drones for your first attack. Lock just one ship and send your light drones in. The rats in that group will target the drones and give you a few seconds to freely attack.
This allows you to do some damage and get in close or set up your range for sniping at them.
Once the first drone has popped the rats will then target you and ignore your drones (Light T1 drones are cheap enough for this tactic). Those few extra second typically mean the difference (at least to me) of having to warp out leaving one of the rats damaged and warping out after popping one of the rats.
I'm not sure if it will work on higher level missions but it works well on all the half dozen L3 missions I have run so far.
Since I am relatively new to the game it may just be blind luck that has allowed me to succeed with this tactic.

I think this mission is very easy, probably because I use a tanked Domi with T2 Heavy Combat Drones.......I have concluded that all rats respawn, so I just gave up to clear the mission out, so I just go straight for the overseer, he is dead in seconds with the drones I use.
The tank I use make it possible for me to stay in the mission for as long as I want...I am suspecting I am tanked to nearly 100% resistance as I can go AFK for 5 min and still have the Domi in good order when I come back.
Next time I will take out the battle station...hoping it might stop the spawns, I was planing to do it after dt, but as I had killed the overseer, the mission had closed....only waiting for me to return to agent :(
This is far from the worst lvl 3 mission.....I had more trouble with a lvl 3 mordus mission, I was getting ganked by a combined 720 dps.....nasty

Try: 5 x Heavy Missile Launchers loaded with Thunderbolts 2 x 200mm Railguns (Or med/small nosf to conserve/gain cap)
Med:
2 EM hardener (active) 2 Thermal hardener (active) 1 Large Shield booster
Low:
4 x PDU II -----

instead of using only widowmakers or only thunderbolts, use a mixed combo of rounds. fit one (or two, if the enemy is a better shieldtank) launcher with thunderbolts (which you should fire first) and the others with havocs, since Sanshas got their weakest armor-resist on explosive. also use some 3 large extenders (preferably T2) on ferox for best tanking.

Hey Simon.
Funny, I am running this excact same mission atm but with Gurista (sp?) Pirates. However, I am using a Passive Tank built Caracel with quite limited Combat SP. Hi: 5x Arb Assault Launchers Med: 3x Large Extenders II 1x Invuln II 1x AB Low: 2x PDU II
There is quite a bit of warp out to avoid loosing the ship, the insurance is a joke as the cost of replacement has nothing to do with the actual cost of the ship itself. But I was down to 3x Battle Cruisers and 5 x Cruisers when I was called to bed last night. I won't get the 483k Bonus award but I can't see myself not being able to finish the mission.
I am fairly new to Eve and still have a lot to learn. Passive tank seems to free up a lot of CAP for AB and Hardener which I can run more or less permanent. Best of luck!

I would replace a couple of the launchers with good named Assault Launchers and consider replacing the 200mm rails with 150mm rails. Put a webber in one of your middle slots. Use the webber to pin down the frigates and hit them with the 150mm rails and make your assault launchers hit them harder.
You will have no problem killing the interceptors that I assume are causing you the problems. It will take a little longer to plink away at the larger ships in the spawn but you will take down the frigates much faster this way.
Good luck

Currently in the middle of this mission. Is it worth poping any of the base structures? The reason I ask is that I popped a base structure in Angel Extravaganza and picked up a hardwire inplant much to my surprise.
I have tried popping a few structures but nothing has dropped.
To the OP.
I'm also using a passively tanked ferox:
HI 4 x heavy launchers with kinetic ammo. 1 x Assualt Laincher with EM ammo 1 x Small tractor beam 1 x medium Nos
MED 2 x active EM hardners 1 x active thermal hardner 2 x large shield extenders
LOW 1 x BCS 2 x SPR 1 x med armour repair
3 x acolytes 1 x hammerhead
Generally need plenty of warpouts so far, but only caught about dropping BM later on. Originally started with an AB, 2 x assaults and 3x heavy launchers. I've made it to the 4th room where you get 2 gates. Do the rats stop spawning once you kill the oversear? It's just beacause i want to mine the omber from room 3 and don't want to have to tank cruisers in my osprey.

I did this mission for the first time recently and was fortunate to enter the area from warp at 7km from the overseer - I tanked everything else, killed the overseer and warped out to end the mission. I guess I was rather fortunate in where I arrived.
My setup is below - I've had no problems with any lvl 3s with it. I would agree with an earlier poster though about using a slight mix of missiles - that's one change I will make for the next time.
The 4 extenders give me 13860 HP shields and I have yet to be taken below 50% shields in any lvl 3. I do prepare using eveinfo.com and I try where at all possible to pick off the targets in groups though.
Hi:
5 x Heavy Missile launchers 1 x 200m Railgun 1 x Small Tractor Beam
Med:
1 Active Hardener (fitted according to mission needs) 4 Large Shield Extender IIs
Low:
2 x SPR 2 x BCU II
5 x Light T2 Drones

Bit of an old thread, but I just did this mission in a Jaguar. Question: is the bonus level worthwhile? I'd read something about the loot being pretty bad, and I'm wondering if it's worth the trouble. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I think it is...if you can handle the DPS of the NPCs...because if you can't you can kiss your ship goodbye. There are some very high bounty rats in the bonus stage.
Since you can reuse the Sansha's Silver Tag, there is no reason not to do it. I bought my tag for a million, but I'm sure you could get it for less, and everytime I do that mission I get at least 700,000 isk more than if I didn't do that stage.
That's my thoughts on it. Hope this info was helpful. Oh and I'm not sure what is in the Overseer's thing (though I hear it isn't great) as I decided to blow it up instead of loot it. Be sure you realize that it isn't something to shoot and then get a cargo container, it already is the thing you loot.

Thanks for the info. Would you say it's as much of a bump in difficulty as the bonus level of Angel Extra? If so I may as well forget it for now, as that was just insane.
edit: one more question, any idea what's through the other gate? It's called "Gate to the Battlefront" or something like that. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

It just takes you back to the beginning of the complex. Everything in this mission respawns so if you really want to you could go through and kill everything all over again.
And I'm really not sure about the damage for this extra stage vs. the Angel Extra stage as I have never done that...but I imagine it isn't as hard as the Angel Extra stage. Just to give you an idea of where I'm at though, to compare, I am doing my missions in an active shield tanked Cyclone with about 6 million total skill points. Hope this helps!

I don't know if this will help you in your Thorax, but what I did was draw the ships out away from the batteries. If nothing else, at least get out of the range of the web towers--20K for them I think.
After the pirates are gone, the batteries are easy to take out.

My Ferox setup for most L3 missions is as follows
Hi: 5x Arbalest Heavies, 2x tractor beams Med: Named 10mn AB, 2 x Large Shield Extender II, 2 Rat specific active hardeners(EM/thermal for Massive Attack) Low: 2 x BCU II, 2x Shield Power Relays
Depending on the mission, I'll swap out the AB for an Invulnerability Field and a BCU for a Shield Power Relay(Using this setup for the Rogue Slave Trader 2 of 2 allows me to tank the last stage without warping out).
Anyway, for Massive Attack, warping in and immediately going for the overseer leaves just frigates and the little sentry guns shooting at me and I've never had them break my tank.

That's the 4th area, which is easy. Sheila was asking about the 2nd one though, and rest of the thread's about the 3rd one and the bonus stage.
