Hey, nothing wrong with the 50's, I just went from 49 to 18 today.
That's right, 18, I'm going back to do the cool years over again, and nobody can stop me!
My co-workers know about my ganking addiction, most of them think it's kind of funny. Pretty much the universal response to any rage I share has been (and yea, I'm paraphrasing a little) "It's a PVP game right? They shoulda known it would happen." This thread officially has 25% more pssssssshhh than leading competitors. Rick Moranis was never put on death row for shrinking his children. New York exists outside the mind of Billy Joel. A French press is not lifting weights with your tongue out. Lena Dunham is not a girl ventriloquist. |

This is a slight detour, but my youngest brother is a big reader of the minerbumping blog.
The first day I introduced it to him, he made the mistake of reading it at work, and after bursting into tears of laughter for the third time he had to explain to his boss precisely what was up.
He said it was an interesting conversation. "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

I work in the ER and the gamers are either WOW or FPS console kids. I have attempted to make eve players out of a few of them. It has not worked out.

That sounds like a strange game. The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess? |

I work in IT and we talk about gaming pretty often, we have an in house game development studio though I'm not a part of that.
I take pride in the fact that I play an elite mmo, and I am part of an elite community. The other guys I work with have heard of eve but don't have the balls to try it. They are mostly a wow crowd.
I quite rightly look down upon them. Dumbing down of Eve Online will result in it's destruction... |

Why would I want people to know I am involved with a game that has attracted so much well-documented sociopathic behaviour in the media? but...this is also the game where the community responds to help with RL disasters in the world and does things like band together to try and vote goon Brian 'Avalloc' Haines to get a wheelchair van regardless of what those players may think of goons ingame. You can be proud to have people know you are involved in this game, imo. Tell them the real deal about EVE, then. Media pretty much sucks anyway.

I work solo - if my pimp boss would know that I play, he would severely hurt me be not amused. My clients, although some are very talkative, are usually not interested in whatever I am doing at all and, paying by the hour, they usually talk about themselves and their families. |

i experienced a lot of gather-around-the-campfirecoffeemaker events when it came to those kinda conversations. usually together with a lot of "you guys do what?"/"why would you even..." type of questions.
since eve kinda regularly gets media coverage if once again somebody pulled of something interesting, i am more or less ordered to explain wtf happened. and if there are any new cool vids on yt or parody tunes or whatever.
none of them would ever play except one workmate who left after two month because he was scared. apparently a well organized lowsec corp is scary.
this thing about people interested in keeping up a bit with what happens in the game but never wanting to play it is quite common it seems. a friend of mine who would never play usually joins me for rl-events and loves to watch fanfest streams.

Jupp, some of my colleagues know. One's an actual online gamer and we've had the occasional discussion on game design differences. The rest don't game or game much and aren't that interested.
With some I mentioned it only when showing my Fanfest/Iceland photos, and it wasn't easy to explain Fanfest to people that don't play computer games, don't know about fan conventions etc. <.< |

Considering how much time you spend on the forums, I expect your employer would fire you just for wasting so much company time. When you explained to them that you're busy non-stop complaining about a game you don't like, they'd probably take away any accrued vacation too. I am not an alt of Chribba. |

I have 4 people I work with.
The owner can't send an e-mail without help, neither can the manager. Co-worker 1 speaks english as a 4th language so I have trouble getting him to understand some of the concepts in EvE. Co--worker 2 is an idiot who barely understands how to turn his brother's computer on so he can LAN a 15 year old crappy RTS.
All know I play EvE, though none understand it.
Still trying to save for a laptop so I can play at work. Currently writing this on my phone at work. Disclaimer: My opinion does not necessarily reflect that of my corp or alliance. My opinion is my own, and if you don't like, that is your problem. |

only two of them even know what it is though, due to being gamers themselves. the others just know it as a game i play on my computer. You can't take the sky from me
