Hi
So I am finally going to get my covert ops training finished today however I am 4 days away from cloaking IV , I ideally would have liked to have some fun with the ship this weekend but should I wait the 4 days or can I make a plan with another cloak until then ? |

Wait the 4 days, you will fairly likely lose your ship even with the cloak, you will without it. "Confirming EVE is hot, batshit crazy, and puts out." -Omar Alharazaad "CAKE CANNOT HOLD UP TO BEING A CHARACTER DAMNIT." --áUnsuccessful At Everything |

Most of the fun derived from flying a bomber is the uncloaking part. A cloakless bomber would be like a pulled pork sammich w/ no sauce on it. |

Stop trying to justify a ******** idea. People have told you: It's a ship designed around the use of a cover-ops cloak. Either ask for advice then follow it, or don't.
At this point if you've made up your mind to run around with a proto cloak then do it. Don't waste peoples time. |

I hadn't declared making up my mind about anything, I asked a question and clarified a answer as I didn't wish people to think that I would use a stealth ship without a cloak.
I have decided to just train cloaking above all else and get there (So that this thread can end) but I thought I'd just add some education to a rude person such as yourself.

In all fairness to Maeltstome, we see a lot of people looking for validation of their plans "cleverly" disguised as requests for advice and it's somewhat irritating when you actually engage in a thread only to have it spat back in your face (by no means accusing you of that, just giving context).

Would you fly a Stealth Bomber if you couldn't fit torpedo launchers yet? I would certainly hope not.
I would not put a non-CovOps cloak on any ship that can fit one. Not only can you not warp cloaked, but your scan resolution gets hosed. To kill anything in a bomber while cloaked with a non CovOps cloak, not only would they have to warp right to you, they'd have to wait around for what would seem like an eternity before you can lock them. In addition to that, I don't know if the Stealth Bomber's "no sensor recalibration delay" applies to non-CovOps cloaks, so you could possibly have to wait around for even longer before locking your would-be prey. Reading Comprehension: a skill so important it deserves it's own skillbook.

This. Never. Ever. Every ship that can fit a covops cloak is balanced around having one and flying the ship without is accepting all the drawbacks built into the ship without taking advantage of the upside.

No one knows. (Ok, someone probably does but it's so arcane even I can't recall and I'm usually pretty good at this stuff.) But the reason should be obvious: no one flies without the cloak because that's the whole point of bombers. |

If you must do this fly a cloaking Kestrel or something. It would at least be less dumb than the cloakless bomber. |

A bomber without a cov ops cloak is like a Megathron with lasers. Is it doable? Yes. Is it even a remotely good idea? No, not at all. |

Agreed
I've been looking at a lot of different ships with a lot of different roles since posting this thread and I fully understand this now. I've basically been a mission runner only for a few years where you can ease into a fit there is a margin of error but with PVP there is none (Learnt that the hard way in a buzzard explorer)
I didn't quite realize how much of a game changer the cov ops cloak is and feel kinda stupid for making the post in the first place. |

That counts for a lot, especially when it meant admitting what you didn't know. Reading Comprehension: a skill so important it deserves it's own skillbook.

To add a bit more content:
Covert capable ships pay an enormous premium for their ability to warp cloaked. In general, you are looking at the raw combat power of their T1 equivalents for the price of a T2 hull (though the covert ships will generally also have some interesting bonuses related to their specialization). Their ability to warp cloaked lets them pick their fights and often choose the range at which the engagement begins. An Arazu, for example, isn't really any stronger than a Thorax in a straight fight, but it's a Thorax that can only gets into fights it knows it can win by decloaking on top of its target at its preferred range (and then waiting 8 seconds for sensor recalibration and lock time ). Anything it doesn't want to fight it just avoids.
If you don't have the Covops cloak fitted, you lose everything that makes it worth using the ship in the first place. |

There is nothing cooler than roaming around in a covops ship. Feel like a U-boat.

I totally would - fit rockets instead! You just gotta change your prey up a bit. Rocket Bombers are excellent for catching exploration frigates. ;) I'm in your mission, stealin' your loots. |
