So. I'm going to hold my hands up here and say that, I don't PvP. Not because I'm a hairy carebear, but because I either miss the opportunity, or I shy away (which i guess is a form of PvP...just a boring one).
I have invested time and isk into the spaceship equivalent of the unholy union of the Predator and the Ant Queen.
It's shiny, and awesome, and changes shape when I attach different subsystems. Other than my total mastery of the dual repping Myrmidon, I am apparently an utter noob at fitting a Strat Cruiser.
The problem I think I have is that I'm trying to get the hull to do everything all at once.
My current tanky fit is:
Lows: 1600mm Plates 1600mm Plates (steel I think) EANM II EANM II Mag II Mag II DCII
Mids: 10NM AB II Warp Scram II Warp Dis II
Highs: Heavy Ion II Heavy Ion II Heavy Ion II Heavy Ion II (Loaded with Null M) Covert Ops Cloak Scanner
Covert Config Adapted Plates (10% Armour) Powergrid Sub 15% less MWD/AB Cap drain Sub I forget
2x Med Trimark 1 x Moar DPS Hybrid Rig
Its got 75k EHP resists with DCII active are 77/88/93/65 and dps is around 230. I have Medium Blaster Spec IV. So I try to compensate by adding an active explo tank mod takes my explo resists to 75 and my ehp to just over 120k, but drops my dps to sub 200.
Am I being a try hard? I would love a long rails PvE boat, but something tells me to stick with my myrm and leave my prot for brawling. Anyone care to throw me a bone please? |

Should rather try to get just as much tank so your prot doesn't go pop - which usually translates to a single armor repairer and one/two hardeners, and the rest is filled with tracking computers, enhancers, magstabs and potentially even more magstabs. And rails.
The covops sub is only necessary if your task requires cloaked warping, which it really doesn't. So changing that for the tracking bonused subsystem and getting those skills up to V should lift your pve-dps to something about 750 at ~25km. If you're wary of frigates, you can combine AB/web to shoot them at close range with rails.
So whatever you do, you'll - need subs at IV or better V - one of the dps-subs (i.E. not the dronesub or cloaky sub) - sufficient tank to not die to sleepers - with rails, AB+Web - with blasters, AB or MWD - lots of magstabs (like 3 or 4), rest tracking
- sufficient cap to not cap out before they are dead (dunno how that works with proteus in c3, I'm using sentries for c3s and lasers for c1/c2)
Hope that helps!

Appreciate it. I must admit when it came to buying subsystems I came close to buying all of them.
All of my subsystems and Strat Cruiser are at IV. and medium rails and blasters spec are at IV as well. Will play around with the subsytem you suggested and see what happens.. oh and buy an extra Ion blaster apparently.
Jester.. do you happen to have that fit as cursory google search of ''self-rep rail prot '' is a lot of sites about rail roads.

Damage range is wrong 41km is optimal + falloff and closer to 200dps than 500+ at that range. |

You COULD commit blasphemy and use a drone proteus for pve, but imho you're better off using an ishtar or domi. If you want to pve in a T3, go legion for armor, tengu for shield, or a shield loki for low class crappy pve (used one in 2011 or so, sucked due to ac range and tracking limitations) or an armor loki for escalations. In short, the mighty proteus is a pvp powerhouse, and has limited use in wormhole pve content. I'm sure you can rat with it in null and/or do lvl 4 missions. |

The proteus is a great PVP ship, but there are both cheaper, faster, more efficient and effective ships even in the gallente arsenal that can do PVE better than the proteus.
You can fit a Rail Deimos (heck the armor repair bonus helps you). Ishtar Myrmidon and Brutix (as they can have a sustained tank and fit a rail setup "technically the Myrmidon can fit a sentry setup even if its just 4 of them).
Heck the Vexor Navy can fit a Sentry setup for all of 100 mil.
The only benefit you gain from having a PVE proteus is the "option" of a cloak. Which would involve dropping a depot, switching subsystems, putting the cloak on, then cloaking. You can do the same with all of the above with prototype or t2 cloaks. If your that hardup and want a cloaking Cruiser, look at the Stratios as an option (fit lasers). Its mostly a issue of price and engagement profile. Your doing PVE, you are probably not going to fit point blank blasters as you'll have to get in within 10km to destroy stuff, and railguns you'll be running away alot to get range.
The price vs engagement profile of the Proteus does not make it worth the price of setting it up as a PVE option, as you have plenty of options above. You "CAN" if you want to, but you'll be doing it more out of pure enjoyment then. It is a harder option, but it is an option. Most won't use the proteus for PVE when they have cheaper options that performs as well.
Railgun proteus, keep range, pop stuff. Blaster Proteus, spend a few hours microwarp driving to things to pop it. Yaay!!!! |

Passive shield VNIs are pretty crazy for C2s. I've heard HACs work for them as well. Ishtars work pretty well for C3s If thuggin' was a category I'd win a Grammy |

If you want to use Rails: 1200 dps on an astarte (eft) for <500m. Should be able to run any c1+c2 site, never tried though. If you want to run c3 sites you'd probably need some more tank.

Proteus + PVE = waste of isk and loss of ship
I have done it and it just doesn't work if you're looking for a PVE T3 then use a Loki or a tengu A proteus is a PVP boat only trust me I lost close to 2 bill trying it |

there's very, very little incentive to use a proteus for WH pve. it can do it but it isnt well suited for it and other ships do the job far better. Stuck In Here With Me:-á http://sihwm.blogspot.com.au/ Down the Pipe:-á http://downthepipe-wh.com/ |
