I remember back at one of the Fanfests within the last 4 years, they talked about having something like "damage states" on all ships. I believe they mentioned these damage states when they were first talking about Capital ships cracking in half (whenever that was).
What they talked about in this was basically the thought that, you could be able to tell what damage level you are hitting on the enemy's ship (shields, armor, or hull) by just looking at the enemy's ship while shooting at them, without looking at their hp. So if you were shooting them and hitting shields, you would be able to see your lasers (or whatever you use) hitting the shields. If you were hitting their armor, you would see scorch marks on their ship. As you get into their hull, you would be able to see holes/more than just the little fires we have now and be able to tell just with your eyes how "messed up" the ship you are shooting is.
Sounds pretty cool, right?!
So CCP, are you guys still working on this? Or is this not being worked on anymore? Want new, exciting mission types? New Mission Types

Right now they did caps because those are the only things big enough to consistently be seen while in a fight and after death. THough rigth now, the lag caused by the active-death the wrecks were supposed to haev caused way to much lag because of all it added to a computer to process in bigger fights, so they, at least for now, minimzed it to just a unique wreck.
The other ships receiving unique wrecks and possible in-combat animations would likely be its own "mega patchspansion" some time down the line, but right now all there major projects are replacing ALL of the existing legacy code (as in they are about to finish industry, then next is POS, then corp, then sov, then player-made stargates), after that would be a return to side projects. |

Ah alright, that all makes sense. Might as well start with side projects after the code is re-done.
As long as CCP is still planning on it happening, I'm happy Want new, exciting mission types? New Mission Types

There was an awesome starwars RTS game I played a long time ago.
It had peices falling off ships and whatnot, also cool to note the larger destroyed ships split in two and whatnot.

The menu has a demo battle going on behind it, but you also had a cinimatic button in the game if you felt like watching it. I enjoy a good session of mining. |

What happened to damage states? The same thing that happens to 99% of everything else at Failfest. CCP shows new tech/awesome features. They talk up said features. A month later, said feature is completely forgotten for numbers tweaks, or they implement a really crappy, incomplete version. The cycle continues! |
