So, with the past few expansions ccp has focused on core game play and balancing and have done a relatively good job. But now is the time for immersion, you know the eye candy that got us all to join this game to begin with.
How to go about this should be done with surveys and player feed back.
Step 1. Identify where to players want eye candy increased,
Just some ideas of what maybe in the list. 1. space 2. stations 3. interiors / staion environments 4. ship models 5. sites, complexes, ded space beacons (metropolis region) etc 6. station environments
Step 2 Identify the change wanted (the below lists numbers correspond with the list above. ie 1 is related to 1. 2 to 2, 3 to 3, etc. 1. stellar anomoly pictures in the back ground, more nebulae etc. local environmental effects
2. maybe special models for trade hubs - can make a contest out of this like the deviant art ship models
3. Gallente pleasure hubs need to come back damnit! Amarr chanting, maybe minmatar will show like a factory production floor and caldari will show propoganda or maybe show business related info like stock tickers etc.
4. Either the ship looks ugly maybe the paint job is ugly or maybe new custom skins for ships in the aur store.
5. Years ago places like the hyperble nexus, lord bastion and other space DED sites had custom environments, maybe bring those back
Step 3. Weigh the priorities of the players
Which do they want to see implemented first
Step 4. Analysis and time line of how long each change would take
step 5. review with players once again after explanation from CCP staff on time line and vote on a new prioritization
step 6. expansion and release goal ccp staff set a goal for release, such as 1-2 changes per expasnion / few months etc
step 7. DEV BLOGS teasing the players.
step 8. Final implementation / profit.
I estimate the initial process will take 2-3 months with all data collection and analysis and fighting over the results with enigma frigates and doomsday weapons. Then 2-3 months after that for initial conceptual art changes and design drafts then about 6 months later after initial analysis of results we should see implementation
Ok is this detailed enough for you EvE community?
Oh yeah if you really wanted to, you could make most of this a deviant art and rederosity art contest and give away prizes to help expedite the process. |

Yay for aesthetics.
However, if you really want Eve players to agree with you on improving immersion, you're going to have to suggest CCP start producing fleshlights in the shape of the various ships.
That's just about the only type of immersion that would get this crowd excited. Wait, CCP kills kittens now too?!-á - Freyya

Hawk there are a few problems here.
1. Most of the playerbase wants new or improved content more than they want more shiny space pixels.
2. Most of what you are asking would be the responsibility of the art team. During these proposed expansions, what exactly are you expecting all the other teams to be doing? And if they are working on their own separate projects, those other projects are likely going to suck up a significant amount of art team manpower anyway.
3. Your assumption that everyone joined the game for the eye candy. I know I didn't. I rather doubt most people did tbh. Most people probably joined for the unique gameplay.
TLDR: It's low on the players priority lists, it would unbalance the CCP development process, and lots of people probably dgaf about the space or station art in the first place. |

Space eye candy may be part of the game for you, but personally I tend to keep graphics turned down to prevent lag during large fleet fights. TIDI is bad enough, but lag on top of it sucks. Disclaimer: My opinion does not necessarily reflect that of my corp or alliance. My opinion is my own, and if you don't like, that is your problem. |

Not sure what game you have been playing but CCP has put immersion content exactly as you described into the game recently
1. station skins
2. ship skins
3. new 'solar flares' or whatever they are called.
4. new sounds in stations.
5. new ship hulls
I actually looked at the date of our post because I assumed your sub must have run out around 2008 for you not to have noticed said changes. Yawn,-á I'm right as usual. The predictability kinda gets boring really. |

JUST in case you all missed this. Please read the 3rd paragraph. . . that is if I can count! Just in case, i've copied the paragraph.. :D
"Now that Crius is live, we have 4 more releases to go this year - Hyperion on August 26th, Oceanus on September 30th, Phoebe on November 4th and Rhea on December 9th. We will use these releases to the fullest to make EVE an exciting place. We will make changes to nullsec, add new ships, balance and revamp ships, modules and structures, add new missions and new kinds of dynamic content, add new invention gameplay and continue to improve industry. We will take the next steps towards our vision of player built stargates and, behind the scenes, we will start work on next generation structures and big changes to corporations and alliances."
It sounds like there goal is to get all that done in the next four patches. or near enough. xoxo Amarisen Gream |
