My good colleague and maniacal sci-fi writer CCP Abraxas put together a quick list of industry-related stories/chronicles at my request, to celebrate Crius' launch today. If you are inclined to such things (or maybe are secretly lore-curious), check them out below.
The three most important ones in my opinion are the following:
Inferno. It's not quite A Day in the Salt Mines in terms of industry, but it does involve R&D, and moreover, the Inferno drug that it introduces ended up playing a pivotal role in our design of worker teams for Crius.
Burnt. This one *is* pretty much A Day in the Life for a mine worker engaged with mid-to-high level technological tasks (i.e. working with machines, not inhaling gargantuan amounts of coal dust).
In the Pits. It's a suspense story about a lone survivor on a mining colony that's about to be overrun by pirates, and what he does in order to try and save himself.
As for the EVE: Source story, it covers a Minmatar breakout from a slave mine, and in my biased opinion I'd say it's definitely applicable to this theme. It's called "A Traitorous Spark" and in my pre-publication digital copy it's on page 98 (please double-check the page nos. if you reference it). Source also includes a spread on Stargate tech (146-7) and one on the composition of a typical spaceship (184-5), though those two are more tangentially related.
A few more:
- Rust Creeps is about a repairman onboard a spaceship.
- Postnatal is about the rather violent laboratory birth of a rogue drone.
- The Desert Fathers is an unreliable narrator story about what happened during a theft on a remote planetside mining colony. It's composed of interviews with various members of staff and includes description of their daily tasks on the colony.
- Lost Stars is about a failed venture by a 3rd party corporation to produce a Quafe+ soft drink in limited regions. It's a nasty little tale that involves the use of human biomass.
