Take an average middle of the road -skilled miner, and a regular old asteroid belt fairly isolated in hisec -- roughly how much would this miner make in an hour? Probably be shooting veldspar, unless there's some other incidental ores floating around. Middle of the road refining skills too by the way.
(Obvious answer is obviously "Not enough!", but how much is "Not Enough"? ) |

Easy to do the math yourself.
See what your yield is. How many cycles per hour you get.
Thus how many ores you get per hour.
Then you calculate what you get from refining those ores.
Now look up the mineral and ore prices and multiply that number with the amount of ores and minerals you can get each hour.
Voila, you have your own personal ISK/hour now.

Or if you want an actual answer...
It depends on your ship. I'd say a decent skilled miner with a Retriever could definitely pull 9 or 10 million ISK per hour in high sec on Veldspar. I would recommend looking at other ores if you want to get the most money for your time. |

As a rough guide, a Retriever mining Veldspar would be approx 8 million isk an hour |

Yep, 9 - 12 mil in covetor depending whether your "middle road" skills allow you use t2 strip and crystals or not. In retriever 10 mil would be hard to break with mediocre skills. Of course that's without friendly orca boosts and dedicated hauler. Eve Online Overview Wizard: Forum thread Homepage

Issue why it's near impossible to answer:
* What are his exact skills? * Which of the mining ships is he using? * How is his ship fit (for tank, for yield, mixture of both)? * Does he have boosts and / or a hauler? * Is he actively cycling and not missing cycles? * Is he not wasting full cycles on near depleted asteroids? * Where is he selling his product? * Is he selling ores or minerals? * If minerals, how are his refining skills and standings?
There are so many variables that it's hard to give it a number when it's easy to look it up in game with some quick math.

As an aside, this is the sort of thing that illustrates why spreadsheeting is so popular in Eve.

if you are really hardcore, you should try http://sourceforge.net/projects/eveiph/
after you install it, check for updates. that binary is not the last one, i think.
- first go to "update prices" and tick "raw materials" - then the price import types select "maximum buy" if you don't want to bother setting up your own orders. - finally switch to the "mining" tab tick only "Highsec ore" and the region you live in, and select the ship you are flying, equipment and implants + your refining skills. then hit "calculate!" (you should also import your character to make this process a lot faster.)
grats! you are now officially nerd to a degree far too embarrassing to acknowledge in front of strangers. |

A relative newbie in a barge will make some 8-10 mil an hour tops, an exhumer with max skills will just about double that. Anyone telling you he makes a lot more is either bragging or "forgetting" to tell you he uses multiple accounts. As income goes it's not a lot, if you truly enjoy mining (...) then that's fine of course but if you do it to make money while you don't like doing it then there's far better things to do.
The only real benefit is that it can be done almost completely AFK so many ppl mine while at work or while being busy on other accounts. If you do that then mining, as little as it pays, is more lucrative than doing nothing and as such it can make sense. But if you're a single account player who doesn't really enjoy mining I'd probably urge you to find other stuff to do, preferably stuff that you actually enjoy. Yes, yes-áI am. Thanks for noticing.

I really would like to see any proof of all those gazzillions made by "almost completely AFK" mining because to be honest I call it bullsh!t. Sure you will mine something and sell it for something but it will never be any close to what you could make by actually being "at keyboard" and pay attention to cycles, rocks popping, ore hold and somebody mining same rock out right from under your nose leaving you hanging there like an idiot.
Marc, I know you wrote about AFk paying a little but forums are full of "I mine AFK and buy titanz with ISK made this way" morons and since this is newbie forums I would like them to have more realistic expectations about whole AFK mining myths. Eve Online Overview Wizard: Forum thread Homepage

You could put the time and effort into running L4 distribution missions and have better return on investment, lower risk, and less frustration from asteroids popping after the first cycle.
As an aside and completely unrelated: blockade runners are brilliant L4 distribution mission running ships these days.

Oh yes, not for a second saying it's good or anything but as stated in those specific cases it's better than nothing. Personally I wouldn't bother at all (partially because making isk is so easy while being way less boring than mining) Yes, yes-áI am. Thanks for noticing.

Personally if you want a passive "Not paying too much attention" ISK generation:
* Trading. * PI
Both require not that much of human interaction to start generating ISK. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy
