Iv been thinking a bit about this before and I suggest the following... And nope I haven't mined in lowsec but perhaps my suggestions work there to.
No static belts anywhere. All belts spawn and show up like any spawn on the Scanner. Warp in distance semiclose so that u can start mining without a lot of traveling but not to close so that u can warp away without getting stuck.
Belts are randomized in size, rock size, spread size and how many of the different rocks are in the belt. Also not always the same shape... and some "belts" may consist of 1 or a few extremely humongous rocks. Could also add big traveling single asteroids that u have to follow while mining. Warp in point at a belts outer rim and yes if a big part of the belt is mined then u have to travel a bit to the rest of it. They don't all spawn at server restart but at least one belt always spawns in every system at server start and old belts get wiped. This way people may actually be close to other people in some systems... Along the day now and then new belts spawn randomly. How many belts that spawn is random thus some systems may be empty sooner then now.
Whilst mining a rock every 5-15 sec a pcs of the rock gets split off and starts to drift away slowly and despawns after a minute. May not be possible due to bandwidth but perhaps some slower working variant. These drifting rocks can be grabbed with a built in rock tractor (or rock tractor for a high slot... just remake the mining ships a bit). The grabbing in this case is without having to target them... U just set the rock tractor as active and direct tractor them with the mouse pointer. All split-off rock pcs are fair game thus if u mine close to an afk miner... Well I think u get my drift :-) To give the actual "owner" of the rocks a chance to grab them they are fair game after like 15 sec or so. The extra u get from the pcs should be significant as a reward for actually not being afk.
Would like the mined ore to be put into ore hold every 15 sec... not only after full cycle. This again takes up bandwidth so another way would be to do a little math out of it at client side cos the client knows how big the rock is at every cycle start and also knows how much a cycle takes thus can easely calculate when the rock is empty and turning off the miner and letting the user know. Ofcourse this doesn't work when more then 1 laser eats at a rock but its better then now.
In overview window u should se the distance to rocks with one decimal like 28,7km (not just 28km). When mining drones empty a rock u should be alerted either with the normal alert "... depleted" or with a new alert like "Mining drone idle" as soon as it gets idle. The idle variant is better cos that also works when someone else sucks up the rock and that way makes the drones idle.
New alert wanted... "Cargohold Full" or rather "Ore Hold Full"
Cargo Containers in space have a button... Loot All. All containers and inventory for ore, parts and stuff should have a button "Stack All" that u activate making those containers always auto stack any old stuff and any new stuff. Also MTU's should have this option.
Another thing about mining... Spawns like Angel Refuge may have pyroxeres in them and sometimes I like to mine it. But they despawn extremely fast if u leave them to get a miner... Why not hold on the despawn a bit longer? Also why not make some of the belt spawns guarded like as if Angel Cartel is about to mine there and also make spawns that already are mined by them thus if u kill them u also get ore as loot. These belts should have better and bigger ores ofcourse :-)
Structure Mining: Lets say all of these structures that are around in missions could be mined... The material u mine from them should take up way less space then any ore but not as little as the common Minerals that are 0,01m-¦. Could be called "Unpure Mineral" and would need to be refined. If we would have belts with Angel mining ops they could also have set up a building that u can "mine". This "Unpure Mineral" would be mined with any miner with or without crystals at the same pace as ore but the mineral gain when refined should be way better then when refining ore thus making it interesting. Also if u mine a structure with something in it then if would pop out as a can as soon as it is mined away.
Things like cloven red asteroid and Barren Asteroids. Should be possible to mine BUT u don't se what u mine until u get it into ur ore hold.
Structure Mining and Hidden Mining could be mined with crystals as anything else and they could be called Universal Crystal. Also things like Asteroid Mining Post should be able to mine and here we have a mix of structure and unidentified rock thus we will get both a mix of ores and also "Unpure Mineral" and if we are lucky we get some rare ore and "Rare Unpure Mineral". (The "Rare Unpure" would ofcourse have some rare minerals in it).
So... also... All these things left behind from finished battle spawns could change identity in the scanner and be shown as Mining Site and despawn after say 2h. So... Before its called "Combat Site" - "Drone Cluster" and after its "Mining Site" - "Drone Cluster" as an example.
Boosted range on Strip Miners seems to be shown like 22k without decimals... but should be shown like 22,3k
Also Id like all asteroids to be named after syntax like... Veldspar, Veldspar Concentrated, Veldspar Dense for better sorting.
This is all about moving EVE mining away from screensaver and making it more versatile and fun.
Se also my suggestions about Mining Crystals. |

Loot spew mechanic just got dumped I dont see them doing something similar like roid-spew.
I would rather they removed the 'the asteroid is depleted' warning than add new ones. This would make active mining more profitable vs passive mining.
The addition of a decimal place to roid distance would be appreciated.
Fighting for a premium belt seems interesting and opens up a whole new opportunity for ninja mining.
Against 'structure' mining as it seems to me that experience is already covered in the game by exploration.
Name change to ore to aid in sorting seems helpful. Yawn,-á I'm right as usual. The predictability kinda gets boring really. |

OP, try reposting that using coherant thoughts, logic, and complete sentences. I have no clue what that rambling blob of text was supposed to convey. All I got out of it was you apparently want to make afk mining easier, then you didn't. Disclaimer: My opinion does not necessarily reflect that of my corp or alliance. My opinion is my own, and if you don't like, that is your problem. |
