As much as i like exploration i have come to the conclusion that it is a slow tedious occupation that is very unrewarding for days on end :( done a mixture of high and low sec plus a little bit of null so far only had 1 drop worth anything from a 3/10 in high sec, i entered 1 system today to find 6 sigs all 6 turned out to be wormholes.
what success if any do you have? do you stick to one area or just set a random 1 way route? is it worth keeping a record of rewarding systems and returning to them?

Yeah, probably due to Eve being changed into easy mode now, not to mention the impact of massive competition. Also Soundwave & Co's 'War On Gun Mining' has pretty much removed most of the 'Reward' while increasing 'Risk'.
I remember making +100 mill per hour doing Exploration. Now lucky to make +15 mill per hour.
Anyway, as for your questions :
Quote:what success if any do you have? Exploration use to be a very well paying career with a very high success rate. Now due to the various factors I mentioned earlier, the success rate is low. Probably about 30% success if that.
Quote:do you stick to one area or just set a random 1 way route? Once again due to the factors I mentioned earlier, it's prudent to travel to various areas. Some research beforehand to plot a course / routes will definitely help a lot.
Quote:is it worth keeping a record of rewarding systems and returning to them? Yes, definitely make note of prime areas and visit them quite often before others find them. Eventually that 'Promised Land' will be gone and you'll be back searching for the 'Holy Grail' once again.

The probability of you finding something "good" is directly proportional to how long since the last explorer went through, which combined with the respawn method has a side effect of "sweeping" content to locations where it will not be found and completed so quickly.
I have found at least 3 strategies playing this game that increased my take of "good" signatures per system, either to the point I am now - where I don't move at all, or where I had to move only a few systems. |

movement is my issue, i am a solo account and i can guarantee when i explore for example in my astero i will find combat sites that the astero has no chance in, then if i use the stratios i will find sites it cannot enter. So i hate moving too far, having the 2 ships in one place at the same time is a major issue for me |

You could always multi character train one of the free alts on your account as a courier pilot to move the second ship around for you. You would need to be able to dock to contract it back to your main though. |

Getting good drops from 3/10s was far less likely than 4/10s. Now I'm not too sure that 4/10s haven't joined them.
Once you've found a good area stick to it, you can always go for a run around if it's unusually quiet.
Always keep a log of your results, at the very least a list of the days sigs will prevent the need to rescan.

If you're primarily looking for combat sites then stick to your Stratios. |

I have plenty of success, all it takes is going to the places where few other people go. i also spam anomalies with an FoF missile fit Caracal or Talwar on an alt while scanning with this character and make a good living off the escalations.
EVE is about figuring stuff out (like Tauranon does), that's where the fun and profit is.

I have had some excellent outcomes doing exploration since loot spew went away. I go through high sec with my various ships and gear loaded on an Orca. I find a system that has some decent signatures and anomalies along with decent access to low or null, dock up and operate from there until I get bored and move on.
I do high sec and some wormhole sites with a Gila and have done very well, especially in the wormholes (C3 or lower). If I get a combat escalation, it is usually worth a 100M ISK BPC or faction module. I'd say every three or four combat sites has given me an escalation. One wormhole combat site gets me 50M to 100M, Data and Relic double that. Plus, those sites are fun to do because Sleepers are constantly shooting at you.
Data sites in high are better than Relic. If they haven't been hacked and cherry picked, maybe 15M to 20M ISK each. Moving into low and null, the Relics get better.
Then, if I need some quick ISK, I hit a COSMOS site and farm for a few days. Good for about 1B ISK.
I've done mining, building and missions but exploration has given me the best ISK returns of all of them. It is also a more active play style than mining or even missions and PvP (at times).
Stick with it. Its the best part of Eve for a solo player like myself. Gate campers are just Carebears with anger issues. |

some interesting bits in here, all high sec data sites i have scanned and looked into have returned no more than 2 mil isk, hardly worth the effort.
