Now that the dust of Crius has slowly settled, it becomes very clear. My high-sec deathstar POS is dead. No. It did not die honorably in a war. It was cowardly murdered by CCP in this latest 'release'.
The POS was an experiment. I know a small one without defenses would have been as good. But economical efficiency was not the main reason to set it up. It was ment to let me experiment. With the placement, defenses and the management of a POS. With research and industry without any of those NPC slot-problems and taxes.
One could even say that I had a PLAN. Just as one is told to have to enjoy Eve. I researched how a POS worked. I got myself the skills to deploy and defend my POS. I setup my PI to support the POS-fuel. I negotiated with my neighbours to get reasonable tax-rates. I got myself an ice-miner I got myself a collection of BPO's. I did exploration to get decryptors. I researched BPO's like crazy to get ready for this release. I duo-trained a second alt to have double the number of research jobs.
Looking at the silly costs for reasearch jobs now I suppose I actually made money in the last months.
It was a lot of effort. But I was having fun. PLEX-funded fun. But fun. The kind of fun the marketing promissed. Do what you want in this marvelous sandbox.
But that's all gone now. CCP could once again not resist the urge to **** in the sandbox to make people move to low and null.
NPC are offering unlimited slots. Yeah. Unlimited. That's always such a realistic concept. No longer you need a POS to get something going. New players rejoice! You get it all on a silver platter. Now I'm not saying there was no need for extra slots. There was. But they took the lazy way out. It was probably alot easier to implement then to keep slots limited and make it possible to rent out slots of a POS to the general public. Players offering services to other players. Yeah. Probably a way too wild idea in an MMORPG.
Oh sure. There are still some advantages. It goes faster...but that's not really 'that' important for the casual entrepreneur. Certainly not if you are no longer limited by a fixed number of slots. There is the 2% mats bonus. The reprocesssing. The compression.
And yes I tried out the new POS stuff too. Reprocessing at my POS. But then my nice reprocessing days are over too. When I was 'young', I was so proud to have that 100%. An achievement that put me on par with all those old players. Gone is that. Another kick in the balls by CCP. Null/Low had to be the reprocessing champions. There is after all so much risk involved in pressing on that 'reprocess' button.
Just compressing ore and deliver it to the null-market? I refuse to be a high-sec mining slave to some null-sec cartel. Or even to do anything to knowingly support their silly blobs.
Nah. All that work to have a POS was for nothing..
The obvious solution is for my corps to do it all in a NPC-station. But oops. No more remote work. I now need an office in an industry station. That makes my corps office-cost go up from less then 50K per month to over 6Million in my current system. And for what? Do I get something in return? No. So screw that idea. Move around you say? Well...no. I bloody hell will not do what those Devs want me to do. This is my game. Not theirs.
So working together in that indy-station with my several alts is finished too without a corps office. I'll just have to spread out my BPOs over them and let them handle each a subset. Use contracts to move stuff between them or transport it back to another station with an office. Thankyou for that CCP.
Btw no one considered to organize the BPO's of a corps into some kind of a structure as is done for the market? Really? No? It had to be a plain list that even with my limited BPO/BPC collection goes on for pages and pages.
So basically the only reason to have a corps with me, myself and my is to be spared of NPC-corps corps-chat and NPC tax. And from other players of course. A Player-Corps is the biggest scam in Eve where officers line there pockets with the profit made from the sweat of their members. Eve has no tools to allow decent co+¦peration and profit-sharing between players. Every corps is just a disaster waiting to happen. But hey...GÇ¥lets not hurt our brainsGÇ¥ is probably the internal CCP slogan.
So it's time to return the favor and kick CCP in the balls. My paying account has been suspended. Its the only thing they can actually feel after all. A plexed account is just an account payed by someone else. So they don't feel that. And I said suspended. So no, you can't have my stuff :)
I dedicated the temporary loss of this 1 account to the great visionairs of this rework. And may I ask that in memory of my POS, you do the same. This wonderful game deserves better then what CCP makes of it.

Might I suggest you contact the Department of Education in your country and ask them to reintroduce the course called 'comprehensive reading'. It will do wonders for your forum posts. I'm sure of it. |

Ignore the trolls. Most are the only joy for null warriors waiting for the next order to fleet up. Mummy is doing their laundry and they will continue to live in the basement until both parents die.
I feel for your lose and I agree CCP has again taken a very large misstep to simplify things thus dumbing down the game. Max ME 10% and TE (former PE) 20%. First move to make every one equal, next step no skiils, followed by pay to win scenario. YAY Space WOW... |

That's a lot of emo for some space pixels. EVE is a game about spaceships and there's an enormous amount of work to do on the in-space gameplay before players (or developers) are ready to sacrifice it for a totally new type of gameplay - CCP Rise |

TL;DR: I have no idea if Crius is good or bad for the game, but I really don't care. All I know is I cannot play exactly as I used to (doh, that's the definition of change) and I refuse to adapt. I blame everyone except myself.

OP, your POS now has an advantage that no station can ever touch: mobility.
Not only are all of your facilities better than what can be had in stations, but you can place them at will in systems that will give you outrageous rebates on your fees. Coincidentally (noGǪ not really), these systems will generally also have plenty of free and cheap offices that you can use for long-term BPO storage.

You willingly forsake a massive advantage handed to your chosen production method and are then upset that giving up that advantage (and ignoring all the minor ones) leaves you with no advantages.

By the end of 2012 I decided to get me a POS and jump into research. I happened to be lucky on the market and buy lots of fuel on a long time low last year. Research seemed to be just the casual activity I was looking for. So I set up a large tower and started to research in 14 labs lots of bpos above ME10 and PE10 . And copies. ****loads of copies.
Now that they are all maxed out and slots don't mean a thing anymore I had a look at my assets and found that running a small POS, I still have at least three years of pos fuel .
I took down my large POS and put up a small one and I'll be doing manufacturing veeerrrryyyy casually whenever I feel the need to, basically building most everything that I need myself. Three years of casually burning fuel .
Only thing I'll have to get rid of are a couple dozens of labs. You know... don't anchor what you cannot afford to lose . Remove insurance. |

I used to play Guild Wars 2 as a Thief. Thiefs were cool. Some said their ability to be perm-invisible while attacking was OP. But I really liked being a Thief. Unfortunately Thiefs were eventually nerfed and although I picked that char because I liked the perm-invisible mechanic, it was gone and the reason I had picked that class were gone with it. That is a very sad story.
In Eve there are no sad stories though. In Guild Wars my Thief char was usless to me because the play style I liked in it had been removed. I had to roll a new char to play it like I wanted (OP of course). But in EVE, change happens, but you aren't left with some unuseable char. You can change and adapt. You can persue new opportunities. Or you can post whiny forum posts. Really, its your choice. If we're not supposed to shoot pods in hisec, why are they filled with meat? |
