Lothras Andastar wrote:Original Article: http://nosygamer.blogspot.ie/2014/07/happy-eve-is-dying-day.htmlShameless Reposting is below! (For anyone who cant click the above link :P) One of the recurring themes in EVE Online is that "EVE is dying." We see it today with the declining ACU number. We saw it a few years ago during the Summer of Rage. Actually, we hear someone bring up the idea all the time. But how long has EVE been dying? The answer may surprise people. Chribba did a search of the forums and discovered the first mention of "EVE is dying" was posted by Madox on 30 July 2003: Quote:Posted - 2003.07.30 19:45:00 - [8] i think people forget that we are paying for a service here. if you were at a restaurant and they told you your food would be ready in an hour then 15 minutes after the hour they told you it would instead take an additional hour AND THEN they don't bring your meal out for another two hours without telling you, something would be seriously wrong. now image that restaurant has 5000 people in it. we are the customers here. we are paying for a service. we have every right to question what is going on. now granted, isk refunds for missed productivity and asking for some sort of public appology that all the devs signed is just plain silly. however, a dev CAN take 35 seconds out of their busy schedule and make a small post on the devblog letting the paying customers know what is going on. i think that is all anybody is really asking for. *eve is dying* That's right. The players began proclaiming that EVE is dying 11 years ago today. Apparently EVE is afflicted with a long, lingering, illness. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rQXJ7Y7r3Xg/U9hIMGUYPcI/AAAAAAAABUo/Vi4LURooI7w/s1600/First+EVE+Is+Dying+Post.png
EvE is dying i don't think so.
The only reason we have seen the numbers decline is that people in the USA are on their summer break.
Once winter hits the USA thats where most of the player base live EvE will come alive again.
So where are these people are getting their facts from OP ?
As far as I see it EvE is working as intended and the weekends we do get allot of EvE players logging on to EvE. Thread Locked By ISD Ezwal-á

whether or not you chose to get your head out of the sand, the stats and even ccp info clearly states there is a huge problem.
we know what it is but ccp would rather let eve die than do anything about it.
plus there are lots of other games coming out (elite dangerous for example) that people will move to... |

Everything is fine. Now, lets watch CCP blow massive chunks of money on crappy games with weak tie-ins instead of making EvE amazing.
All that money spent on other crappy failures of games could really have spiced EvE up....I made that argument before it all happened and just look at where we are now. Happy EvE is dying day! Do you have it? |

Whilst Eve is not dying, it certainly isn't full of life.
I would say that we are in a period of stagnation.
We have no idea what the subs numbers currently are however the PCU is not looking to good and before people start to talk about summer, it has been pretty much been on a downwards slide since march.
Null Sec is awful for which both the players and CCP can be blamed for.
CCP for having awful Sov Mechanics that we have been asking to be changed for years and the players for preferring to blue each other to death then kill each other.
PvE is god awful.
I know a few people who been playing Eve for many years quit over the latest industrial changes although not being an industrialist myself not sure why. Something about screwing over those who have been playing for years to make life easier for those just starting out, can't comment on whether this is true or not.
High Sec is well High Sec, a place which is there for earning relative risk free isk semi afk doing mind numbing boring PvE. Sure you can gank and war dec but when you look how many people are actually ganked it is so tiny it damn well makes no difference and HS War Deccing so bad its not even funny.
Wormholes are no longer a place of mystery with the tools that have been developed using the API. If anything C5 and C6 are nothing more than a place to earn a ridiculous amount of isk in place which is more safe then any other place Eve.
Of course I may be wrong but appears to be a rare occasion that a corp / alliance is kicked out of a C5 or C6 these days. I mean there are 512 C5's and 113 C6's, How many Corps / Alliances have been kicked out in the last 12 months?
I suppose that only leaves Low Sec and whilst it has its faults, it is a lot more fun then anywhere else.
S sure Eve is not dying but it ain't exactly all sunshine and rainbows. |

Oh, and in before the guys who says we need to start pandering to carebears to save the game from it's decade long death spiral.
Which carebears? The non risk taking null bears or the more exposed to risk hi sec bears? I get confused.

I used to do ice mining during the week semi afk due to commitments however helped me to make isk, but now it seems I can't get to any ice belts in my time zone. If I'm lucky I get one ice belt a week that i have to really travel for. I thought ice was going to be in all time zones and respawn every 4 hours, well it doesn't.
Unfortunately everynight during this week, I log in, see no ice belt then log out and play something else. A few nights I log in to check after an hour or so just in case there is ice only to fine, nada.
This is killing the game for me, I don't say EVE is dying I say, CCP are killing EVE for the players. One bad decision after another.

EVE died. It was sad and horrifying all at the same time. EVE choked on a chicken bone in an undisclosed restaurant. But, then...much to everyone's surprise, Dora the Explorer was moonlighting as an EMT, came in with the ambulance and actually Heimlich/CPR-ed EVE back to life! It was incredible. EVE then had desert and put on another five pounds. That chocolate cheesecake goes straight to the thighs, you know. The bright side to the statement, "Eve is Dying" is that its not dead. I have heard that since day one of my Eve experience and I, for one, do not pander to the naysayers. Eve Online, with all its faults, is still one of the greatest games I have had the pleasure of logging in to. I will continue to have faith that a game driven by a community of my fellow capsuleers will always pull through, even at its darkest moments. Whatever happens in the future, I am forever grateful for the friendships and rivalries I have made thus far. One could only hope to have the same type of bond with the fast twitch immediate gratification games on the market today. Dalto Bane for CSM10- Getting an early start. -á-My posts are my platform

my nod to the day:
TL;DR EvE will inevitably suffer and be crushed by the onrushing tidal surge of new Sci-Fi IPs if it cannot somehow rise above the morass and distinguish itself. I believe Incarna's Avatar focus can save EvE from that, and they must use the HD's from Dust 514 to brush the dust off of the grave in which we buried that possible aspect of the game.
...
Eve online has held steady as long as I have been playing, a few minor speedbumps aside. Incarna's "p2w" possibility was a big one, and definitely the glaring issue from that particular release. So bright was this nova's glow that it eclipsed nearly everything that was good about Incarna and it's new avatars, including the possibility of character interaction outside of our protective metallic coffins, er, capsules. Coffins mostly.
At the time of Incarna's release, Star Citizen was barely more than a crowd-funded box made of hope, the picture inside the Warframe wasn't smiling at us from its place on the wall, an angelic form with it's Halo 4 was only just peaking it's head over the horizon, no one had even really hinted at humanity's Destiny, and the CoD franchise was more interested in chasing Ghosts while hiding their more Advanced Warfare intentions from the public eye. I mention Star Citizen due to it's obvious intent to out-EvE EvE, and the rest have, each in their own way, left DUST 514 behind in their respective races across the USA's Bonneville Salt Flats. For the less astute, that means "in the dust.
Now, CCP is painfully aware of all of these things. If you think they aren't, you need to poke around a bit and acquaint yourself with common sense and business sense. I believe they sought to address these issues with the avatar aspects of Incarna, but this rather beautiful solution was overshadowed by the rather vocal minority, myself included. We were ticked off about the possibility of our investments being pushed aside by a direct pay to win option. And We. Wanted. Spaceships.
In 2011, however, one fact ruled the MMO-sphere: Fantasy was at it's peak. This is no longer the case. Look around. If PGI can expand to other IP's following the fun-but-not-so-fun screw-up of MWO, the crowd in the arena has changed. After three years of CCP both gently and attentively stroking our ego's, should we not ask EvE to change? We have our game about spaceships. Can ANYONE deny that? Facing the grave fact that Science Fiction has firmly and undeniably displaced Fantasy in the entire entertainment sphere, from film to video game and beyond, we must answer the voice of Maximus from our fantastic past: "ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!?!?!?"
Yes, I am. But will this continue to be the case? I can build every ship in the game, and through my various alts, I can fly every ship in the game, save the Ragnarok. The ships have lost their draw to me, in a sense. Now I want more. Every issue concerning game-play has been addressed, in one way or another, and any complaints about the game's direction of the last few years just fades into the background of baseless griping out of boredom, the actions of a snotty child kicking the dirt with his hands in his pocket because he didn't get EXACTLY what he wanted for his birthday.
My point is: If we, the players, continue to keep our stranglehold around CCP's ingenuity for OUR game, it won't be here in ten years, as it so wishes to be. And I hope it will be. In the last three years, EvE has become a much better, more complete version of what it was; a game about spaceships. But that will no longer be enough. Dust was not enough. CCP has to admit that. Our game is becoming stale even as it becomes more beautiful. No matter the changes that have been made in the last three years, it is still the same old song and dance within the game itself. If we do not allow or force EvE to change it will stagnate, and we do have the power to enforce our will, the original Burn Jita being evidence of that. But we must also be realistic. EvE has to change.
I believe that Avatars have to be that change. We need to get out of our capsules and actually walk around the stations we live in and defend every day. We need to force CCP to do this if we must, and we must become aware of, if not comfortable with, the fact that just being a game about spaceships will not be enough to combat the tidal wave of newer Sci-Fi games. Make no mistake, they all have EvE online in their sights, one way or another. Are we going to support EvE, even though we do not truly support CCP? EvE is more than you, more than me, more than CCP and it's profit margin.
EvE needs to reincarnate Incarna in order to put forth a more beautiful face to the world. It will suffer by becoming a much more social game, and yes, people who only play for the Avatar aspect will play the game, and we will troll them on the forums. We will hound them until we are bored because they won't come out and fight, and our favorite aspects of the game will continue, much as they always have.
Please, CCP, evolve, and show us how beautiful EvE really is. Let the Trolling commence.
