Put these overview links into your corp or alliance bulletins or chat MOTD.
At first I was really looking forward to tricking people into clicking blank overview profiles in local. :D
Then saw the warning dialog comment. :(

Can you make that automatically back up your current overview before applying the changes? I know there's a confirmation box but with such a radical change that completely overwrites everything, I think it'd be a good practice to automatically back up the settings before overwriting them.
This could use the existing export function, by exporting it as eg. YYYY/MM/DD_backup_001 or something automatically. |

That wway you could store links to many overviews like "pvp overview", "mining overview", "overview for noobs", and if you happen to override your overview with something you don't like, clicking one of those links will restore it.
I think it's a bit of an ugly workaround for something which can be messed up with 1 click... If you're adding the feature, I'm sure we'd all benefit you spending the extra few hours to add the necessary polish to it with a revert. |

This could use the existing export function, by exporting it as eg. YYYY/MM/DD_backup_001 or something automatically. Something like this is needed. Otherwise people will post, in systems with several new players (but not rookie systems) "Great overview settings! Click and accept this!" only to see their overview trashed, and, being rookies, have no idea what to do to recover.
Having an "are you sure" button is helpful, but I cannot really be sure if I cannot see the details of what I am accepting. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

While you're in there, can you fix the bug where when importing 5 overview tabs, the import process breaks because it can't create the 5th imported tab (because the limit is 5, and you always have 1 or more, or at least the default tab). |

I'll check this out on the test server later but on the list of overview bugs that this does or does not fix.
Do these changes fix:
Pulling up the overview using a short cut allowed a person to change the settings but not save them. Will this fix clean up that issue.
While changing the whole overview is nice. This functionality misses out on the ability to add tab specific overview layouts as a reward for doing steps in the NPE.
Does this change clean up the tabs and generic layout conflicts in the settings tab? IE generic layouts do not populate the drop downs in the window until they are used in a saved layout. If i dont know something about EVE. I check https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/ISK_The_Guide

Man the fun this is going to cause in big fleet battles with silly amounts of TiDi. Local is already spammed like crazy with BS links to slow down people's computers and cause crashes I can only imagine the added bonus of having to click to dismiss a change every 30 seconds (20 mins in TiDi time) that's not going to cause any issues.
I personally have local closed but there's a lot of folks who madly click everything posted because they have to be "that guy" I await the exploits and issues to come. |

When starting this, I thought we had to completely change the states, so you would pick what you wanted in your overview (example: war targets) rather than what you didn't want. When looking better into it, we quickly ran into this case - I want -5 dudes in my overview so I check them -> my corp mates that are -5 now all show in the overview, not what I want

CCP Turtlepower wrote:Hello pilots!
We are working on few new overview-related features, and a first iteration will go live on Singularity in the very near future.
-You can now share your overview settings in-game! Simply open your overview settings, then drag and drop an icon into chat, and press Enter. If another pilot clicks the link, your overview will completely overwrite his/hers. The overview profiles are stored on the server, so these links can even be added to mails, bios, notepads, etc. and used later. Overview profiles are not "owned" by anyone, and once a profile is stored, anyone can access it given that they have the link. Please note that only default or saved tab presets can be shared. -New overview tabs are now created by clicking a little icon to the right of the rightmost tab, similar to how internet browser tabs can be created.
One more thing: since this is a very new feature which includes changes to how we store overview settings on the server, we reserve the right to clean out all the overview profiles on Singularity if needed (we are not expecting this to be necessary right now, but it might happen).
If you have any questions or comments, or if you can find any bug in these features, please feel free to reply to this thread.

There needs to be a confirmation on overwriting current overview settings. Otherwise people will link F'd overviews as fake images or contracts in jita etc. causing people to screw up their settings. |

It needs to be overview settings (what shows up), color coding, and prioritization/enabling of classes of targets.
Just dragging what shows up, without the colors/prioritization embedded, leaves us exactly where we are today with downloaded overview packs that still requires us to "un-eff" our overview on each update/installation. |

Would not wanna be one to click a link that is supposed to be a contract or fleet, only to have it over-ride my overview with setting that will take me time to correct. This was my first thought as well.
There needs to be some confirmation that the link is, indeed, an overview setting and/or a required acceptance of "Yes please overwrite" my settings with this one.

Hey CCP, you have a perfectly cromulent system for how to share overviews already in game. MAKE IT EXACTLY LIKE THE SHARED FITS system. PRESTO, it's super simple to use, you already know how to code it, and everyone gets the features they wanted from it.
IE: instead of overwriting whatever your current overview is (seriously, this was your idea?), it opens the overview settings window and shows the new overviews' settings. (just like a fit) and then lets you name and save it to your list of overviews (just like fits).
PLEASE!!!!!!
I really like this idea. +1 |

Very, very cool!
Instead of a unisized overview, we can finally have specialized, and easily switch between them. Yay! \o/
Would something similar be at all possible for sets of window positions and sizes? It has the same one-size-to-fit-all-activities malady. (Trading setup, salvaging setup, industry setup, ...)

That's why one of the first things you'll do is send yourself an EVE mail with your own settings, in case you should ever fall for a stunt like that.
You can even paste it in one of the notes. Instant View-heal.

Would it also be possible to have the window arrangement saved in the preset, so that I don't need to move every single window into the right position whenever logging onto an alt? |
