Hey all
Im fairly new to eve online and started out with mining and wanting to know more about mission running and if it can be a good source of income? I have heard lots about running level 4 missions for ISK but i was just wondering how i would start off?
What kind of skills should i be training and what kind of ships should i be flying? Would i be able to jump straight into level 4 missions or is there something that i have to do before? I have also heard it is good to salvage the wrecks, is this true?
Thanks all :) |

Run some missions while salvaging/looting and some not and make the determination whether or not it is worth it to you. This answer may or may not change depending on how you run your missions and how you decide to develop your skills. Find Typhoon on the market, open ship info, select Requirements tab, now you know the below minimum requirements that you need. Train those to 4, train missile support skills to 4, now you meet minimum requirements. Life is short and dinner time is chancy Eat dessert first! |

Loot and salvaging will provide a good percentage of your income in level 1/2 missions its a good thing to do early on. Note salvaging and looting are different.
However by the time you get good at level IVs you will make more ISK/hour finding a high ISK/LP corp and either blitzing the missions completely or only cherry picking known high value drops and large wrecks that just happen to be sitting right next to you.
If you are going to loot, an MTU will save time and has the advantage of letting you filter out loot worth less than a figure you choose so you canjust take the good stuff. In level IVs the under 30K ISK items make up about 3/4 of the volume but ony add up to 10% of loot value so are best left behind. |

The links posted by Paranoid Loyd will tell you about the standing required to progress to the next level of Security Agent i.e. you cannot jump straight to level 4 agents, and the social skills you can train to increase your standings, mission payments, and loyalty points (LP) payments that can be used to buy items from the LP store.
In general the following classes of ships are used for the following levels of security missions
Level 1: frigate/destroyer Level 2: cruiser Level 3: battlecruiser Level 4: battleship
Now you could just train straight for the battleship of your choice, but you'll probably find that your capacitor and shield/armor skills are not trained high enough to get the most out of it, and that you'll be forever warping out of missions trailing smoke and flames, with structure damage, costing you time and isk as you dock up to repair, and all your ISK when it goes pop so I'd recommend progressing through the ship classes as you'll have more fun that way, and they also warp quicker than battleships.
Concentrate on skills that improve your tank initially such as the appropriate shield/armor skills to match any ship bonuses, so you can be in the mission long enough to actually apply your DPS. If you have an active tank then Capacitor Management, Capacitor Systems Operation are also important.....and don't forget Warp Drive Operation which comes into affect each time you warp into a mission!
Then skills to improve DPS for the appropriate weapon system, and/or you can switch out tank modules for modules that improve your DPS.
Learning the triggers in each mission that spawn the next wave plays a big part also, so check out those mission links.
The Noctis is also worth investigation for salvaging when you get to level 4's with more battleship wrecks, and it makes a good companion to the Mobile Tractor Unit (MTU) as Hasikan Miallok mentioned, as it neatly gathers all the wrecks in one place meaning you can fit mostly salvagers on your Noctis rather than a mix of tractor beams and salvagers.
Way down the line, you'll find that your completing missions well before any MTU can tractor in all the salvage and you can investigate blitzing missions for LP...........but that's another thread. Have fun |

It also helps to follow a "ship line" so to speak.
Say. Caracal- Drake- Raven- Golem. All shield/missle, so skills on the cruiser will help the later ships.
Or, Vexor-Dominix.
Hybrids/drones/armour. (can be done other ways)
Other examples will be obvious as you research stuff. Gila-Rattlesnake , missiles/drones, Pirate ships, not cheap, But very effective.
This keeps your skill training relatively linear, so while you train properly for your next ship, the one you have now gets better.
As others said, do not rush straight to battleship/level 4/s , without proper support skills, or that first level 4 will be an expensive loss.
The Typhoon Fleet issue is a beast, but not cheap in isk or skill points to be effective in. |

Its a good source of income. It will be able to provide more isk than mining, but depending on ur sp, it might not when you are first starting.

You'll want a decent battleship Maybe a frig as well for burner missions and missions like recon or cargo delivery. Being able to equip a mjd is nice Drone skill high enough to kill an occasional frig are nice to have.

Faction standing must be greater than -2 Corporation and / or faction standing must be 5 or greater.

If you can do it as you mission, you might as well. Otherwise it kind of depends on your skills and how long it takes you to complete the mission, how many wrecks there are, etc. Focus BS wrecks if you salvage as you go.

Any battleship, T3 cruiser and at the limit HAC will run them fine. However, if you want something efficient, I'd go with a Rattlesnake or Machariel. They are much harder to fly efficiently but they throw some insane DPS at very long range.
Personally, I used a blaster Megathron for the longest time. It kills stuff very fast and require a decent amount of attention so it's not boring. |
