hey all
Im am brand new to eve and i am looking to run missions as i enjoy being active in the game and have come to love the combat of the game just from the quick tutorials
I was just wondering, i have done the tutorial missions and want to move onto the actual agents but can not decide how i should choose my agent. I have heard all about the different factions and standings and it all confuses me so i was just wanting some input from the community as i know many of you will be a lot better at this game than me :)
Thanks all |

I am assuming you are going to run security missions rather than join faction war or grind standing for some other purpose such as research agents or a POS.
There are a few factors that are important in choosing an agent/corporation to work for.
- availability of higher agents later on. it really sucks to grind standings for weeks in level 1 and level 2 missions only to find the corp you chose only has two level 3 and 4 agents and they are all 40 jumps away in nullsec.
- ISK/LP ratio. This is the amount of ISK you can get selling items bought from the LP store. Corps that do faction war like the various navies are bad for this. Corps that have rare items in the LP store like Sisters of Eve tend to be good. This ratio will not effect you much early on but by level 4 missions it can be very significant.
- Do you need to get standing up with certain corps to reduce trade and processing fees. Jita trade hub is owned by Caldari Navy for example, Dodixie by Federation navy, Amarr by the Emperors family. Note the Navies are good for trade hub standings but bad for ISK/LP.
- Corps with 0.5 and 0.6 level IV agents are more desirable as lower security is better LP.
- What faction the corp is in. Every 16 missions yo get a storyline to boost faction standings.

Basically there's 3 different types of standing :
Faction = High standing allows access to all Agents of all Corporations within that specific Faction. Corporation = High standing allows access to all Agents within that specific Corporation. Agent = High standing allows access to that specific Agent.
Faction standing will over-ride Corporation and Agent standing whereas Agent and Corporation standing is usually easier to gain. However, completing Event Agent missions will quickly increase Faction standing. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Event_Agents
For access to high level agents, nobody can specify the specific amount of missions needed to complete nor the amount of standing gained due to various factors involved. These factors include:
Agent location = A difference of 0.1 in system security level from 1.0 down to 0.0 translates into a 10% increase in rewards. Agent division = Security, Mining, Distribution, R&D (Security division gives the most standing increase) Agent type = Basic, Factional Warfare, Storyline, Event (Storyline and Event Agents give Agent, Corporation and Faction standing increase) Mission type = Encounter, Mining, Courier (Encounter missions give the most standing) Standings = Higher agent standing gives increased rewards per mission Social skills = Higher level trained reduces the time spent to gain standings
These various Social skills are very important and will modify / increase your Agent, Corporation and Faction standings. http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Item_Database:Skills:Social
Connections skill will raise your current positive standings with Empire. (4% per level) Criminal Connections skill will raise your current positive standings with Pirate. (4% per level) Diplomacy skill will raise your current negative standings with all. (4% per level) Social skill will increase the amount of standings gained for completing missions. (5% per level) Negotiation skill will increase mission reward and agent effective standing. (5% per level) Fast Talk skill increases amount of Security Status gained for killing single most highest bounty Pirate NPC every 5 minutes. (5% per level)
Three different skills increase amount of Loyalty Points gained for completing missions per specific Agent Division. (5% per level) http://www.eveonline.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=909
Security Connections Distribution Connections Mining Connections
Basically you can quickly access high level agents. How fast depends on the factors listed above.
Personally I believe having high Faction standing is the best option since that allows you to pick any Agent in any Corporation within that specific Faction. A good point to remember though is not to jump around between the various Corporations too much. Gaining +8.00 Corporation standing will allow access to Jump Clones and in the process of doing that, will gain a large amount of Loyalty Points..
Sorry for the info overload. Good luck to you.

Geezus DMC, leave something for poor guy to discover on his own :)
That being said now I will blurp my 0.2 ISK :)
OP, when you are looking for agents check where corp has its L4 agents and choose one that has them in 0.5 system(s). Some corps don't have such agents at all, some have few but spread out all over map, some have just a couple but very close to each other like neighboring system or even in same station.
Point is L4 missions are your goal (I'm assuming hisec mission runner) so you want to maximize profits when you reach them. Lower level agents are not important because pretty soon you will have enough skills to blitz through L1s and L2s and should skills and money allow you to you will move to L3s. Which might be little more problematic since generally BC hull is required so new skills, new weapons size (medium) and all that stuff. But L3s are just another step on road to L4s so you should do them long enough to get standings to access L4 agent AND train skills high enough to PROPERLY fit and fly BS hull of your choosing.
At least that's what I learned after running L4s in 0.8 system for 6 months before I switched to 0.5 system I made same amount of money in 2 months. My skills were already better so missions went faster but still, there's a significant difference in rewards between agents in 0.8 and 0.5 systems. Eve Online Overview Wizard: Forum thread Homepage

Make sure your chosen corp offers BPC's. Generally BPC's are the profitable LP items. And stores that offer BPC's, as far as I can tell, additionally offer all the items that the worse corps offer so there's no downside. |

Another thing to look for is a good LP/ISK ratio corp that has several level IV agents in same system or station.
My mission alt used to run missions for Nurtura (which gives at least 1.5 ISK/LP sometimes much more) from a station with two level IV security agents for example.
Alternatively if you have access to a cluster of good ISK/LP corps in the same system you can rotate between a few IV agents for different corps. |

Option I chose:
Keep all faction standings positive. (( Run any L3 with a new corp after some time ))
Don't get locked out of an area of space by raising only one faction way up.
Mission with the places you do the most trading. Improve your tax rate! |
