So, i have heard several saying, that the raven is the master of NPC'ing.
Is this true? Im searching for a replacement for my nice ferox, which can tank a triple angel nep spawn. But i cant kill them, because of damage. I can kill about 1mill rats. But it takes ages.
So im gonna move to the battleship. Im gonna use it for npc'ing, as i cant afford to loose a BC just yet.
I do prefer minmatar ships, as i find them fun(Missiles are borring tbh)

Minmatar are graet fun, and awesome for PvP. Not amazing for NPCing. I'd train for the raven, get reasonable (not maxed or t2 weapon) skills, and you will be a very effective NPCer. Train for minmatar, and fly them in PvP. Also, your missile skills from the raven will help in phoon piloting

The Raven is definitely the King of missions where you fight at greatly varying ranges and need a very strong and sustainable tank. For NPCing in belts, I guess any Battleship that can deal the correct damage types for the local rats should work well enough though or maybe even better than the Raven though. --------- ZOMG my sig was concordokkened! Command ships are also awesome.
Take a while to train for though.

thats mostly because they also are the dumbest ones
truth is when you have to keep an eye for distances and optimals or ab towards target its less likely that you are dulled into not watching local

Wouldn't keeping track of all those variables have the opposite effect (as in not watch local)? If you're just standing still mashing f1-f8 you'll be so bored that you'll probably go over the local list multiple times.
P.S. Raven ftw in terms of pve. ____________________________________________ Don't worry aboutit |

I reckon on average the Raven is the most damaging NPC'er because it deals constant unchanging damage from 0-90km (approx).
You have optimal range and transversals to worry about in turret ships.

Here's the thing about the Raven.
In PVP, it's a highly effective close-range battleship. Not the best, but quite good.
However, even though it can hit with close-range weapons (torpedoes) much farther than any other ship, the travel time inherent to torpedoes makes them pretty useless outside of a very short range, roughly equivalent to that of short-range turrets.
That's because time is vitally important in PVP, you can't just sit there waiting forever, you get killed.
In PVE, that vital aspect of travel time, which balances the Raven in PVP, disappears. Hence, it's completely UNbalanced in PVE.
See, in PVE, you've got all the time in the world. If you're fighting NPCs, it's assumed that you can tank them just about forever. More importantly, they're stupid as dirt and never do anything unpredictable. So it no longer matters if you have to wait a little while to get your torpedoes across the eighty or ninety kilometers from you to the NPC.
There was more, but I'm too tired. -------- Tom Thumb > for a nut case you rawk [04:21:15] Mebrithiel Ju'wien > Nik's bio 4tw btw [07:38:53] Graelyn > Nikolai for Dev 108!
