So, is this a forbidden topic? I did a search on the forums and I can't find anything about it. If it is, I'm sure this topic will vanish fairly soon.
So, a new massive sandbox MMO set in space, VERY heavily directly influenced by EVE. From what I can see, this looks really exciting, here's the blurb from their site :-
Quote:Seldon Crisis is a sandbox MMO that allows you to freely travel the galaxy without stargates dictating your movement. You will start your journey with a small fighter craft and some money, starting to work your way towards bigger ships, wealth and influence over other players. It is completely up to you how you will achieve this: Through diplomacy, intelligence, military strength or economical power. Have an impact on thousands of other players in a seamless single shard universe. Write your own story, forge a great empire or cause the next Seldon Crisis.
The game is completely player driven. The economy, politics and even the infrastructure is in the hand of the the users. You are unbound from preset paths and there is no linear progression the player has to go through. You can earn money and increase your character level by crafting, and trading goods between the many sectors of the galaxy and its stations, by hunting pirates and collecting their loot and bounty or by fighing other players for their equipment and cargo.
There will be a huge variety of missions, such as combat, escort, courier and exploration. Of course you can also engage in a combination of those. There are minor factions in each sector, either hostile, friendly or neutral, offering work to adventourus captains. You can also explore the depths of space, where hidden missions and unexplored territories await. The galaxy is a vast and beautiful place. And space is not empty: There are thousands of star systems, planets, moons, nebulas, wormholes and asteroid fields waiting to be explored and exploited. Each sector of the universe offers a unique variety of resources and procedurally generated content.
The official website is here - Seldon Crisis website And the article that brought it to my attention is here, an interesting read - PCGamesN Interview
An interesting tidbit from the interview - Quote:Chaos Interactive has sprung out of CCP and EVE Online. Some of the team used to work for the Icelandic developer, while the vast majority of them are EVE veterans. The team says that the venerable sandbox MMO has had an impact on their vision of what Seldon Crisis could be. Besides the parallels between the settings, thereGÇÖs also the open-endedness and player-driven universe, which EVE is famous for and Seldon Crisis is looking to add to.
So what do you guys think, is this vaporware or is there a real, talented team behind this that may just make it a reality? |

From the website, it looks like they weren't very shy at all about pillaging from EVE. The Asimov Foundation setting is interesting though. I wonder if they'll attempt to make the Foundation galactic politics stuff actually matter to the gameplay. "Were [sic] not your monkey and so what?"-á -The Sex Pistols (2006) |

Agreed, THIS image specifically is a bit.... familiar?
Oh. I can't link to it from here, some script at work. Anyway, the image on the artwork page - Terminus Prime by Adam Burn, it's a carbon copy of the WIS hangar view over your docked ship. |

Every space game has to have some version of the Bird of Prey, and a Battlestar, naturally. Enterprise is optional, as is the space chicken from Babylon 5. The Starship Troopers cruiser is also required. If House played Eve: http://i.imgur.com/y7ShT.jpg |

It looks like a very unpolished concept at the moment, but it might get some traction going into a September kickstarter with an open world sci-fi sandbox theme. I will probably even support it since I'm a sucker for these types of games (although I'm kind of regretting Star Citizen). |

Interesting how many of these games are popping up: - Limit Theory: http://ltheory.com/index.html- Star Citizen: (I'm kicking myself for funding that instead of...) - Elite: Dangerous - Infinity - Battlescape: https://inovaestudios.com/Battlescape- Starpoint Gemini 2 - Kinetic Void: http://badlandstudio.com/kinetic-void/ (available on Steam as early access... playable) I'm liking the trend, but the only one that seems on track is Elite: Dangerous. wow those ship models are borderline infringement. That might be true except most Eve ships are reminiscent of ships from other works.
The Dors looks like a Machariel mated with a Battlestar. The Lor'tmak and Ra'Ktor look closer to Klingon and Romulan ships than anything in Eve. I think Eve has earned a little bit of inspired-by copying.
I just wonder what a "Fregate" is. |

No, just no, I take this even less serious than I take the Chris Robert's 50 million dollar air castle of airplanes in space. Allow me to be frank. You will not like me. You will not like me now, and you will not like men++ a good deal less as we go on. |

They got bookmarked a little while back, it shows some promise and I love their art design so far.
But it's in too early of a stage to get excited.
I have also noticed that they have distinctly avoided the topic of non consensual PvP as well. Seemingly, one could conclude that they intend to restrict PvP to specific areas of the game only.
Which of course is a huge no-go in anything that wants to claim to be a sandbox game.
But, as I said, it's in an early stage. "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

I'll stick with the 11+ actually playable with a richness of player-made history even with it's flaws, thanks.

Errr.... no. Even if they sorted everything with Janet, Robyn & al about using Asimov's IP, the game just looks like some art and a vague relation to the actual Earth & Foundation series.
