so im a complete noob on google docs, but after lots of hour i finally got my spreadsheet to import the data i need.
=IMPORTXML("http://api.eve-industry.org/system-cost-index.xml?name=isikemi","//activity[@name='Manufacturing']") this one workslike a charm.
=importXML("http://api.eve-central.com/api/marketstat?typeid=34&typeid=35&usesystem=30000142","//sell/min") this one works too. but after 5 min or whatever the value i pulled changes to "error:import internal error" what i then have to do is delete part of the string-press enter. then retype what i deleted. then the same thing happens after 5ish minutes. refreshing/closing opening the doc does no thelp all help appreciated:) |

Hey,
Yeah it is quite common to see issues with api imports from eve-central, and it seems to be somewhat related to the overall load at various times. (see my thread in the Technology lab where I asked a similar question: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&find=unread&t=361185 )
I've resorted to tying one cell into all my ImportXML calls from eve-central, so if I change that cell (e.g. delete it and then do ctrl-z), I force an update of all importxml calls. |

Yep I've started doing this as well, generally works better when you only have a single import for your entire sheet. |

thanks for the replies:) your solution seemed like a nice workaround but how do you write it into the string? "a1" f.eks =importXML("http://api.eve-central.com/api/marketstat?typeid=34&usesystem=30000142","//sell/min") |

I have tried incorporating it into a call, i.e have one cell that's put into all calls, that I can then delete + ctrl-z. I didn't have much luck with that unfortunately.. Maybe I was doing it wrong (one thing I tried was putting the usesystem id in another cell and then call that). My "solution" was fairly crude, but it works. So I use JOIN to bring together a number of typeids in the sheet, e.g.
=JOIN("&typeid=",B3:B50)
Which are then used in the call:
=IMPORTXML("http://api.eve-central.com/api/marketstat?usesystem=30000142&typeid="&B2,"//buy")
To be able to force an update, I linked the top typeid in each column that I joined and used with a call, with a cell, e.g.
=643*H1
H1 I then linked to wherever in my sheet, and made it a simple 1/0 toggle. Changing 1 typeid in the list of joined id's will force an update, so it works :p |

I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding what you mean :)
What time are you after? The base time to build or research or invent or...?

Ok, I'll try to see if I understood you correctly :)
So you want to know how much profit you make per hour, for example? That is, if your build makes you a profit of, for example, 50 million in 10 hours, you want to be able to divide the cell with the profit, with a cell that displays the time 10 hours, so 10:00:00 ?
In my experience, sheets usually don't handle dividing numbers with a time format very well. I usually just treat time as a regular number. That is, 10:00:00 I would treat as just 10 hours, and 10:30:00 as 10.5 hours.
What I do myself, to calculate how much potential profit I could make on an item as a function of time, is the following:
Take a T2 ship for example. What is the hull build time? Let's say it's 28 hours. What is the time required to build all the components needed for the ship, if I were to use just 1 slot? Let's say it's 30 hours. Finally, let's say I make a 45 million profit on this ship.
Using this information, I can get the Profit / Slot / Time, so I can compare between different ships to see which one gives me the best profit for my time, and not just the best profit overall.
So you would simply do, say, = 45000000/(28+30) , if you want it in hours.
I'm not sure if this is what you were after though ;) |

Yeah it seems I understood what you wanted to do.
Ok, so one work-around that you can try, which at least will work in this case, is:
=E14/G13/24 and make sure that the cell with that equation is formatted to be a "number"
This will give you an accurate figure of profit/hour according to your sheet.
NOTE: Make sure you set the cell with the time to the "Duration" format. To handle times longer than 24 hours. |

If using new google sheets, the issue is with 'new google sheets'. ImportXML is very unreliable. Best approach is to write custom script doing what importXML does, works much better. |
