Well written story. Looking at your fitting you were using a warp disruptor so there wouldn't have been much kiting since the other guy would still be able to use his microwarp drive and he was in an interceptor. |

So, my first loss was forever ago ... back in May (maybe June) 2007.
Here I am, this immortal bad-ass in a shield/armor/hull tanked Tristan, sporting M0 railguns, my newly-trained rockets, and me barely having enough skills to make it all fit.
Jump over into local lowsec, get greeted by the inhabitants, while thinking "hm, those other idiots don't know what they're talking about, there's nothi... [cue gatecloak dropping] ... oh, hey, why are they all flashy red, and where'd my shi... oh, how'd I get back to station so fast?!"
About 10 seconds later, I get convo'd by the guy who nuked me ... who spends the next half hour telling me how to fit, and gives me a decent "newbie-friendly" Thorax fit (T2 tank, etc).
Was good times One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

My first ship loss was actually to NPCs.
Brand new to the game, I had finally(!) trained enough skills to be able to use a hurricane.
Cue rush into mission, set artillery to slaughter, watch tank melt in horror, lose ship, scratch head in puzzlement.
I asked around, posted my fit to the people I was talking to at the time, and learned how to tank properly.
Sadly the same thing happened to my first Typhoon. Some lessons just take longer to learn, I guess. De'Veldrin's Corallary (to Malcanis' Law): Any idea that seeks to limit the ability of a large nullsec bloc to do something in the name of allowing more small groups into sov null will inevitably make it that much harder for small groups to enter sov null. |

See people, This is the right Attitude. This is an EVE player.
No complaining about unfairness, no calls for CCP to change basic game mechanics to prevent losing a fight. No none of that BS, just fun ending in a 'good fight' in local.
If more gamers were like Captain Soju, I'd be all on the "eve needs more players" bandwagon. But the truth is that most gamers suck and are whiny crybabies trying to escape from a horrible real life and so feel entitled to fool proof victory. |

My first 'major' loss in Eve was when I took a mission-fitted Megathron into battle during a wardec.
When I think back on that battle, it makes my brain hurt.
But... that wardec is what got me into PvP. Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings? |

Congratulations! Levelling up is awsome. \o/
Also, nice story.
I don't remember my first PvP loss (and while I remember the first PvE one, it is best left unmentionedGǪ suffice to say that I hadn't figured out ranges and resists yet). I remember my fist PvP attack GÇö as in me being attacked GÇö though, since it kind of coloured my attitude towards ganking ever since.
I was (and everyone sing along now) minding my own business mining in a belt a few jumps away from Jita. I was in my mighty Osprey GÇö that thing sucked rocks like there was no tomorrow at the time. Suddenly, I notice that there's something blinking in local. As I look over, I see that there are now ten of us where there used to be nine and one of them has a blinking red skull on top of his name. That looks ominous GÇö I mean, everyone has heard about the nasty ebil blinky reds, right? So it's obviously a pirate looking for some fresh meat and when I look around, it sure seems like all the fresh meat is right here in the same belt I am. Maybe one or two of the other guys in system weren't there, but stillGǪ
This looked like a bad situation so I started to align to my home station. Might as well, since I'd be full in a cycle or two anyway. Right then, the blinky appears in my overview, coming out of warp. Oh well, I'll miss out on those two cycles I suppose, so I click warp and skip off home.
Half-way there, there is a lot of swearing in local chat and the pirate kindly wonders how the hell I got out so fast. I was obviously the weaker target GÇö no-one but a low-skilled n00b mines in a the turkey-cruiser, after all, and never mind my midslots full of tank because he couldn't have known about those GÇö so he had gone for me and while he tried to change plans on the fly and go after one of the other miners in the belt, the popo caught up with him. Poor guy. I just explained that I saw him coming and clicked the warp button. Some more kind words followed and I landed at the station, docked, and counted my precious ore as he left the system or logged off.
This whole pirate menace everyone was talking about seemed rather overblown if it was this easy to avoidGǪ GÇ£If you're not willing to fight for what you have in GëívGëí you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.GÇ¥

I think that's a great idea! Doesn't need to be massive, but a small incentive to dare.
As a mission in the tutorials. Go to LS and loose your ship to a capsuleer. |

Fell for a trap where someone listed an item for a lot cheaper than you could get at the beginner station. Bought the item and went to pick it up. Surprise it was in low sec space. Continued anyway. Got to the station and then got ganged up on by 4 or 5 ships (I was in the newbie ship). Ship blown up and then got podded.
I was annoyed at myself for falling for the trap. Didn't really care about losing the ship since it is free. Annoyed at being podded as I feel that was unnecessary. Also felt that ganging up on a single newbie ship shows lack of skill and honor. I niether raged nor conversed.
After having two other ships lost at other times and areas I learned not to bother with PvP as each time it was always a group of people against one of me.
That being said I am not against PvP (although I don't understand the point of some suicide ganking or targeting unarmed frigates). I would eventually like to take part in large fleet battles, be they PvP or incursion, but I'm trying to get my skills up to a useful level (some of the skills take stupidly long to train imho). Welcome to the preschool sandbox |

Wow, thanks a bunch for the praise! It actually took a lot of tries over the course of time to break out of my shell. Every time i came back to the game i would try finding a way to not be part of the sandbox, but doing soyou put yourself in a sort of victimized situation where you feel everyone is out there to hunt you. Nothing against pveers off course and if i ever kill some of you please forgive me, it's just that my guns misfire sometimes.

I lost my first ship shortly after leaving the starter system. I had purchased a second ship in a nearby system and jumped in my pod to go get it. The problem was I didn't know how the inventory and asset system worked so I didn't know how to find it again. I went on without it. This message brought to you by Experience(tm). 5 friends and I decided to try the game on a 21 day trial. We read a lot of advice on reddit, battle clinic etc and We all spent the first day training skills to fit into a basic atron fit we found online. After about 5 hours of running the tutorial and getting free ships we were finally skilled enough to for the fit we wanted. We flew to dodixie and bought the basic fittings.
Our fleet of 5 set course for the nearest low sec pipe, old man star. We were feeling good, we felt pumped, who could stand up to 5 ships at once? We clicked the okay dialogue to warn us of the dangers of low sec. As the gate slung us through space and the grid loaded on the other side I immediately noticed a Stabber blinking yellow on my over view. I tel my friends to hold cloak and burn towards it, it locks me up and starts firing, I order everyone to engage, it shield tank under the weight of our combined fire power along with the gate guns.
However it's armor dips low and then rockets back up again. At this point our over view had several more ships on it. Another stabber and ishtar landed on grid and their onslaught quickly wrecked our group of atrons. 2 of us were podded and the other 3 made it back.
Kill mail
Unfortunately 2 of our group quit eve right then and there with their first loss, another 2 still play but only like PvE, while I enrolled in FW :)

I do remember my first ship loss, because it was a few days ago (I've only been playing a few weeks). I'd poked my nose into lowsec for the first time properly and was struggling to scan down a relic site in my Magnate next to a planet when a Dramiel turned up and destroyed me while I was trying to warp away. At least my pod escaped. Next time (whenever that might be) I'll try making a bookmark and scanning there but I know even this isn't infallible. |

Yep still remember mine. Day 4 in the game, doing the security tutorial set.
Given a mission in system to go fight some ship.
Undock in my Tristan and almost instantly this pop-up window appears challenging me to a fight.
Having no clue what a duel was I thought it was part of the mission. A little confused, I waited a few seconds and then accepted thinking it must be something easy enough to take down.
Almost instantly everything melts and I pop.

I kinda mention it down in the article a little ways.
The expanded story:
Brand new, with a bunch of noob Aussies in a noob mining corp they set up (sensing a theme?), we got wardecced by a notorious scammer (who has since ... left... the game) after he awoxed the hell out of the corp. I missed the awoxing part, but I did undock a horribly fit Corm (hey, i was new! fitting a ship sucks when you're new!) to PvP the wardeccer and promptly got melted and podded by him in his Imperial Navy Slicer.
Now, years later I undock INCREDIBLY fit Corms!
And promptly get melted.

First ship loss was in the tutorial in which you are supposed to lose it. First PvP loss was on my way to my new corp station in Syndicate, in which I decided to try to auto pilot to see if I could make it. Hit a gate camp at the entry in to null, saw the bubble, hit hard left, and right into the campers. Boom, podded, and I woke up in my new home.
Whatever. Has happened many many more times since. Still ahead of the game in the fun:rage ratio :) |

1st lost (PvE): In a Corm running a L2 mission still getting used to fitting and gameplay so my tank was burning up because of the rats, so I tell my ship to warp to station before I get into armor, I then go AFK for a minute and come back to find my Corm still in the mission pocket...with no armor...humping a roid. I then try to manually navigate around the roid to get a clear warp line, but I then go boom.
1st PvP loss: Ratting battleships and cruisers in my Corm in lowsec, finish off another BS, warp out, regen my shield, then warp to another belt. Then a Loki warps in so I take the time that I thought I would have to look up the ship to see if I want to engage or warp out. Then I see a flash behind the info window. RIP Corm Stupid me thought that I got killed by an indy since I didn't understand that T3's don't have hardpoints.
1st intentional PvP loss: I hear about the fun of PvP so I outfit a crappy Atron and go into Low-sec (W/ the full expectation of dying) and start hunting. I see a Daredevil on D-scan at the gate, I check and see that it a frigate, np I think to my self. I warp to 100 and watch it MWD to me, I get ready, lock, then try and fire. I forgot to turn off the safety. I do that then I fire, only to be vaporized by the gate guns that I quickly learned about "Your security status has been lowered." - Hell yeah it was! |
