hi all
Im writing this post as i am a new player and struggling to fit ships. With all the modules that can be added them im struggling to narrow down exactly what to put on especially with the low skills i have. Im currently running level 1 missions so obviously its easy as pie but im just wanting some tips for when i start to progress further. Also how do i know when i am ready to advance say from a destroyer to a cruiser? should i follow the masteries given in game or are the core skills that are a must to train?
Also feel free to give me as much information about mission running as you would like as i am still a noob to this game and wanting and willing to learn more
Finally i am also looking for a friendly corp to join to make the game more social, if you can please mail me in game or reply to this post
Thank you everyone :) |

Total ship fitting basics:
- Don't tank both armor and shields
- Don't mix long and short range primary weapons
- If the ship you're flying you can fit drones, fit as many as possible
- If things don't quite fit try using a different meta level (4 is usually easiest on fitting)
- Download either EFT or pyfa or both and learn to use the hell out of them
- Cap stability is overrated; don't sacrifice damage for it
- Damage alone is never the end of the story; always consider how well you get that damage on target
- And, of course, never fly what you can't afford to lose, preferably several times over
Moving from destroyers to cruisers (I'm assuming you're flying Minmatar?) is guided by these basic ideas. Most cruisers have some sort of drone bay. Can you use it effectively? Can you use medium weapons? Are your fitting skills ready to take on the additional burden of larger modules? Can you afford to buy and replace a cruiser? If yes to all, move on up. I also burdened myself with the requirement (eventually; not right away) that I needed to get 70% of all 5 stats on any given hull. That usually meant getting ship skills to 4 before sitting in one (along with relevant weapon skills, etc.)
It's valid enough to rush BSs for missions, but I'm of the mind that you don't actually want to do that. Really explore smaller ships; they tend to be more fun to fly and knowing their capabilities (and maximizing them with support skills) can really help on larger hulls. |

This should help, be sure to look at the other races as well as the related links at the bottom of the page.

Hello and welcome to Eve.
The basic rule for ship progression verses mission level is as follows :
Level 1 = Frigate or Destroyer Level 2 = Cruiser Level 3 = Battlecruiser Level 4 = Battleship Level 5 = Carrier or Fleet with Logistics
The easiest ship fit for a new player to do is a Passive Shield Tank.
https://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Passive_Shield_Tanking
Definitely train up the Core Fitting Skills asap, at least to level 4. That will make it much easier for you to fit up ships.
There's a lot of guides and info available in Uniwiki, Evelopedia, etc.. Take some time and do a little bit of research, will definitely help a lot. Check out some ship fits in BattleClinic and use them as a starting point in EFT (Eve Fitting Tool) after you've imported your character stats. Also EveMon is another excellent 3rd party app to use for setting up skill plans. For advanced intel on missions, check out Eve-Survival:Mission Reports.
Google is your friend.
Good luck to you, hope you have a long and rewarding career here.
