hi guys and gals
Im kinda new to eve online (played before years back)
i want to set up a moon mining operation but i have some difficulty understanding the many guides to moon mining.
I get that i need to be in a corp to setup my tower, i know i need a harvester array. and a silo
but here are my questions
On the "moon harvesting array" it says - "restricted to security level of the most 0,4"
what does that mean, is that the regions sercurity level, or mine, or the corp or what ? Please explain in simple terms as English is not my first language.
Where is also something with the sovereignty i dont understand, anybody that can explain the process of setting up a moon harvesting operation, i know the physical aspects of it, its more the requirements
thank you - crow

It means the system security. So 0.3 and below (lowsec and nullsec) No sovereignty is required
You need to be in a corp to launch the tower. You need to find a moon where the value of what you mine from the moon exceeds your fuel costs (good luck with that part) and you need the tower not to be destroyed for long enough for you to profit from the endeavour.
To be honest, you're unlikely to find a valuable moon which isn't already been harvested. Any moon worth mining is already probably been mined. |

ok, thanks for the explanation, can you find a harvester array that can be set up in 0.7 system ?
and is there a better chance in higher systems for moon mining ? |

No, there is no moon mining in highsec
The difficulty is not in finding something worth mining, it is in stopping everyone else in EVE from shooting your tower whilst it mines |

Moon mining and moon reactions are limited to system security of 0.3 and below. End of story

Moon harvesting arrays produce the same amount of a material regardless of the security of the system

Incorrect. As of Crius, you can also moon mine in 0.4.
But yes, this is a low / null sec thing.
Also protip; Every single moon with anything worth mining (ie. stuff that is worth more than the cost of fueling a tower) is already being mined, most by large alliances that can throw around big fleets to keep those moons.
Only case where I can think of doing moon mining "small time" is if you set up POSes for some other reason (say, moon mineral reactions, industry etc.) and then picking a low end goo moon and mining "on the side" - if you plan on paying the POS fuel anyway, the low value goo becomes worth picking up.
Some R16s might barely be worth mining with a small tower, but in general you will mostly do a bunch of :effort: to transfer ISK from T2 producers to ice miners, getting just a tiny sliver of profit for your efforts. |

The most accessible and still useful on-the-side are probably moons for making carbides. |

I thought that was a rounding bug that they were going to fix. I know it was possible on Sisi at one point (along with one or more of the capital construction arrays being allowed in 0.5). Was it just not fixed or was to deemed 'not a bug'? (nothing in the patch notes)

(nothing in the patch notes) The fact that you couldnt mine in 0.4 from the beginning was actually the bug, which was fixed. Someone made the mistake of writing ' < 0.4' instead of '<= 0.4'. I just fixed the display text for the attributes this afternoon to reflect this, but the code should already be in place. I'm being stupid for asking this since I think you pretty clearly articulated it above, but are you saying you can run moon mining arrays in 0.4 space? Are other modules (hello reactors) that are currently restricted to 0.3 or lower space also getting the make-over? (As an aside, I've never put up a POS in 0.4 but seem to remember some game guides indicating charters were required for them. That always seemed weird to me and I wondered if that was actually the case). Yes and yes. Nothing has changed on the structures themselves, we've just changed the code so "0.4" means "up to 0.4" rather than "below 0.4". |

Why moon mining can't be done in hisec ? I mean CCP's vision regarding this matter, why it can't be treated as PI. The higher true sec you go the less mat you can mine. Lady Areola Fappington: -áSolo PVP isn't dead!-á You just need to make sure you have your booster, remote rep, cyno, and emergency Falcon alts logged in and ready before you do any solo PVPing. |

Currently "just because".
Also be afraid of what you ask for. Those big alliances that control just about every R64/R32 out there would like to have the high sec ones as well. So allowing moon mining in high sec would not matter for you at all, you wouldn't get to mine them.
