I'm a vet, and have been using dreads for a while, but I admit that I don't have much experience with capital ships, especially in active PvP (passive being POS bashing).
The "Capital ships" skill itself gives -5% agility bonus, which will provide to an unfitted Archon (for example) about 2 seconds bonus to warp-out delay. Same goes for a Revelation. That really does not seem much "on paper", but I don't have enough in-game experience with capitals in order to see if those 2 seconds make a lot of difference or not.
The thing is, it's a 48 days skill that removes just 2 seconds (and barely) from a class of ships that are not able to run away anyway if the battle goes bad for my side. In theory, it wouldn't mean much.
So my questions to some of you who have PvP experience with dreads and carriers is: 1) Is it worth it to train "Capital Ships" to 5? 2) Is having Capital ships trained to 5 a prerequisites for getting a corp capital in your corp/alliance?
My use of the capitals will be limited to dreads and carries. I don't plan to rat in them, except for high class wormhole complexes, and they will be primarily used for PvP (either in w-space or regular null, depending on where I would end up after my current break from EVE).
Thanks for your feedback. o.0 |

I have a couple trains of thought.
The first is: If that '2 seconds' ever saved 1 ship,,, then it's worth it. And if it lets you warp away faster than the next guy,,, still might be worth it.
The second is: With caps being the largest investment, (more or less), it's not out of line to have them trained the best they can be.
That said, I have pretty darn good cap skills, but still not Capital Ships V. It's on my *someday* list though. Currently not mapped for it, so it'd be 65 days atm.
Many of my longest skills, I did when I was sort of *not playing eve much*. The time wasn't as agonizing that way.

its a "nice skill to have" not really in the same category as dread 5 or carrier 5 for example.
i would say its not really worth it but if all you do is fly capitals then may as well. |

Dreads and carriers are not as likely to benefit as much [siege & triage counter movement].
I agree that a capital specialist with nothing else to train might consider it. |

It's probably worth it if you want to fly a titan, otherwise no. Stuck In Here With Me:-á http://sihwm.blogspot.com.au/ Down the Pipe:-á http://downthepipe-wh.com/ |

in fact it is a prerequisite to have it to V for a titan ^^
I would say its a nice skill for capitals but get the other ones to V first.

I have it trained on my supercarrier specific pilots. That little bit is worth it. My two main combat characters have it at level 4 because I do not use my dreads or carriers as much as I do subcapitals so other skills are more important that that align time. |

It's a low priority, non-useless skill.
There are *much* more pressing support skills to get earlier than this one. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=366607 - Gank incursion runners, win prizes! If you are willing to use the single carrier in a sub cap fight it can be worth it.
Chimera with pure sentry DPS type fit. You'd also want advanced drone interfacing 5 for it.
Since most won't use a carrier in such a way or train it to even make the attempt most will say don't bother.
If you got the nuts to drop a carrier with max DPS only and all drone mods on the ship into a sub cap fight knowing that popping one faction BS will win the isk ratio aspects of a fight and you don't mind losing the carrier train them.
They can also put the hurt on the small ships in a fight once you get the locks on them. 15 sentries with drone omni's in all the mids except the one for cap shield rep sounds like the best beserker machine ever. Plus DDA's in the lows with a D/C. Get Em! |

Get into warp faster! Capital ships actually does not effect the Nomad or Anshar. I assume it doesnt to the other freighters and jump freighters. Align time for those is effected by Spaceship Command, Advanced Spaceship Command and the actual freighter skill itself.
For what it is worth, I would have thought capital ships would have made an effect on jump freighters since they are the closest thing to a capital ship for the industrial side and the rorq too of course. |

I ran a check on it in eve mon and although they are under capital ships you are right on the freighters.
It does effect the Rorqual according to Evemon as it is one of the ships that requires capital ships as a skill to fly. |
