Hi, all
We are small corporation who currently live in a c4-c4 system. We have got a c5 static that will be rolled out with a Hyperion. We are trying to decide if this change is for good or for bad for our corporation.
1) While living in c4 I have seen lot's of empty c4-c5 systems, so there must be a very good reason that corporations do not live there. What is a possible reason for that?
2) What is the positive side to a c5 static? I can only think of 2: gas and possible K-space connection in neighbor system. Any other positive aspects?
3) It is possible that this question has being asked many times but I did not find a good answer to that. What 2 sub-capital ships can clear the vital and instrumental gas sites fast? I can think of 2 marauders. Would appreciate fits with the answer.
4) What is negative side to a c5 static? I came with only 1 - once the static is open a blob from c5 might come and bash the tower or leave cloaky t3 gang in system to drop on while we PvE. Any other ones?
I am not complaining about the changes that CCP is about to implement in W-Space. I am trying to collect information so we as a corporation can make a good decision. Thanks. |

How do you know you will have a C5 static after the update?

Because the changes are live on SiSi |

Yes, I have logged in on SISI and scanned down a H900 in addition to a normal c4 static. |

If you just got a c5, then you wouldn't need to use it and thus not generate an entrance for c5-dwellers. If you got little wormholes from your home activated by third parties, then it surely will not cause big issues in the future.
Otherwise, an entrance to a c5 highway can provide you with some very lucrative oppurtunities - mainly datasites (2 tengus), gas-sites (c320, c540) and easy access to SOV-null, and the datas/relics/DEDs out there. 10/10 is like a c4-anom on valium, so you should have the ships already ;)
Also, no one unless especially grudgy/dedicated people would ever log off a fleet in a c4 to drop some pve-people. "I honestly thought I was in lowsec"

If you're farmers then a C4->4/5 is great. However, since you say you're a small corp I'm not sure you'd want to use your C5 for PvP because you probably won't be able to pull a large enough fleet to fight some of the people who live in C5s.
I'm inclined to think you're farmers already since you live in a C4->4 because they aren't great for PvP unless you really work for it. If you're up for moving, I'd suggest either a C4->5/2 (if they exist) or a C4->4/2 (also if they exist). The C2 static gives you a lot of opportunities for some smaller gangs as well as ganks as well as an easy out to k-space if you're into that sort of thing.
The second static is really dependent on your farming preferences. Both C5s and C4s can result in super highways so it's up to you.
Another option may be a C4->(4/5)/3 where you can use the 3 for k-space diving if you're into that sort of thing. If thuggin' was a category I'd win a Grammy |

Oh that explains it
A C5 static will provide you with some nice opportunities but if you are focused on isk, you are going to need to control (roll/crit) your static 5 pretty well if you don't want people coming in and spoiling your fun all the time.

Yes, we do not do PvP. And yes, I would prefer the 4-4-3 or 4-4-2. But we are getting a c5, so we need to figure out how to adapt to it and what ships to train or to move to a different system. |

Cloaky T3 gang does ****** dps, so you can probably come out with 50 effi if they jump you running sites. And unless you are major dickensians almost noone will spend many hours with logged off T3s in your hole. To get some doable PvP from your C5 learn how to scan down and bomb MTUs, how to kill a noctis with ecm support and maybe even how to kill the 2 dread, carrier loki siterunners. Because most tiny c5 farmgroups will not bother to close a c4 (no easymode with capclosing) with a small unknown corp on the other side. That is pretty much still PvE, since they usually don-Št have points with them. |

Staying out of harms way will require you and your mates to be a bit more alert since C5s generally see more activity than C4s. 5 RR tengus or 4 RR domis will run core garrison's just fine. |

Now ordinarily i would never do a PVE guide but i was a little impressed that when you found that you are to get a C5, instead of whining and bitching about it you thought about how you could adapt to the situation so below is how i made ISK in C5 space.
Have you considered farming data/Relic sites, you only need to either tank the first wave or kill everything in first wave and tank the trigger.
http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=ForgottenCoreDataField
http://eve-survival.org/wikka.php?wakka=UnsecuredFrontierServerBank
You only do the above mentioned sites, these can be run in anything from a sleipneir, tengu, loki (I used to dual domis cause i had them) and i have even seen a person do them in a drake.
You will either need to drop a depot at some point and fit hacking gear (the refitting is why most people used tengus as they changed subsalso) and fit 1 warp core stabilizer if you killed the first wave and are tanking the trigger.
In the above linked Data site you only hack the "Abandoned Talocon Battleship" (Generally around 120M for around 5-10mins effort)
In the above linked Relic site you hack everything. (Generally an easy 500m for around 30mins, and probably less time now loot spew is gone)
If you scan down instrumental gas sites they can easily be cleared with two guardians and a T3 dps ship.
Failing this an ULTRA BEAR by the name of Keith has started a C5 Maruarder guide you might want to read. |

Thanks for the responses guys.
I have watched the marauder video and got impressed with it :) The only downside is that most of my guys are 3-4 month away from marauders. But there is a way to grow.
Same situation is with guardians. It's gonna take some time but also gives us a direction to grow.
I will definitely consider running relic/data sites and may try to practice it on a SISI before doing that on TQ :)

If you can already do Tengus, you can run C5s with 4-6 of them if I remember correctly. 4 is a little sketchy, but 5 is a good number. If you have a booster, make sure to use it. If thuggin' was a category I'd win a Grammy |

I'll just add a data point here that while slower than sh*t mostly due to my meager hacking skills, I can do the Core Data Field in a fully passive shield fit Gnosis then refit for hacking and cap regen to fire up the MWD to move while webbed and neuted. I lose T1 drones by the bay-full (helpful to keep scram off you just in case you need to GTFO), use missiles to supplement the DPS, and then ignore the final ship while hacking the cans. MMJD disco when all is done to get out of dodge.
It is wickedly cheap compared to other fits I've seen such as Gila (even pre-patch), Stratios, except perhaps a Drake and has no fitting skills required to get max bonuses (except a little bit of missile skills for the range needed to hit the cruisers) and you do get that bit of scanning bonus to help nail down those sigs. If the Gnosis as an exploration ship had the hacking bonuses like the Stratios it would be near perfect for this job.
Probably one of the most fun things I've done in WH space simply due to the added FREAK OUT pressure of operating for extended periods in C5 space.
