I was checking something else in the Eve ELUA and I read this bit.
6. SCAMMING
Severe offenses may result in an immediate ban without warning; however, warnings may be given for first time offenses, followed by account suspensions of varying degree and ultimately a permanent ban if a player:
a. Illegally obtains items from another through use of an exploit or cheat method. b. Intentionally creates contracts that cannot be completed through normal game mechanics or abilities. c. Has been told by a GM to discontinue a scam ploy and disregards the instruction.

Isn't the margin trading scam in direct violation of point b ? Not on an anti margin trading tirade here, just curious. Maybe clarify the rule above if it's the rule description that's the issue.

Margin Trading has been explicitly stated several times, by both GMs and devs, to not be an exploit.
Reported for closure as a redundant topic. "Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

I'm not complaining about margin trading. I'm asking if the rules page needs to be clarified or updated - because it looks like rule b disallowes the scam. Maybe read my post a little bit before jumping to conclusions. |

It doesn't. You're reading it incorrectly.
The market is not a contract.

He's not trolling ... ... that's at least something.
But yeah, the market isn't a contract or contract based and you don't engage in a "contract" of eome sorts by buying stuff from the market either.
That's, at best, purely imaginary. http://residentoutlaw.tumblr.com - The Underwear Glitch Tutorial. |

Nah that makes sense thanks. I forgot contracts were a very specific thing in Eve. I skipped the contract bit and the rest of the wording looked like it could be read more than one way which seemed a bit ambiguous to me. I expected if there was an issue that the wording would get changed not the scam, so no trolling intended. |

Also, it's generally more effective for a company to have a wide scope of restrictions in the EULA, then actually allow much more wiggle room in-game.
In many cases it's quite hard to write crystal clear EULA, and why should CCP bother anyway?
Your question is legit, but always remember EULA isn't game mechanics, it doesn't HAVE to be perfectly clear. Make space glamorous! Is EVE dying or not? Ask the EVE-O Death-o-meter! |

No.
Under B falls for instance setting a couier contract to the Polaris station which nobody can reach and you thus can never complete it.

No it does not.
Point B clearly states CONTRACT and the margin trade scam doesnt involve contracts. Personal channel: Crazy Dutch Guy

Although many might wish it to be otherwise, the so called 'Margin Trading scam' is perfectly legal under the current game mechanics.
