Gen Con is will be in Indianapolis on August 10-13!
Never been to a convention like this myself, but it is already looking to be a great event. Of course, CCP will have some people there for the CCG release event (Petur [CCG Dev] and Kieron for sure). Not only that, they will be giving out free starter packs for all booth attendants. Also on my awesome list is the Video Games Live Concert that will be in Indianapolis that same weekend.
So, who here will also be attending? It would be great if we could get enough EVE players together there and blob the booths Perhaps also a meetup some afternoon..
I heard Gen Con referred to as "E3, but for bigger geeks." In that case, I think I qualify, and I'm sure a lot of others here do too For those who are interested now, but have yet to check it out, visit the Gen Con website and pre-register. The last day to do so is in fact this Friday (July 21) so get going. Thar be Pirates

I've been looking for a reason to go to GenCon since I live right here in Indy. I've pretty much fallen out of the gaming loop in the past three, four years except for Eve. If there's an Eve booth there, I might be willing to sign up to work it a bit!

Glad to hear this!
Hope to see you there. I go almost every year and it's the best place to do the kind of launch you are planning. My only wish is that you had posted this way way sooner.
GenCon is unlike any con out there (except maybe PAX), it's a pure gaming and game related con with a few other things tacked on for good measure. EVE should fit in really well but I hope there will be more than just the CCG stuff. Most gamers are looking for that next cool game to play the guts out of and for most SF lovers EVE would fit the bill.
Anyway, hope to meet a few of you there.

I've been to quite a few GenCons all the way to the Milwalkee days and Indy is the show to go to. This year I will not be be attending but I normally do volunteer event staff(red shirts) for GenCon (got to love the ticket reimburstment) and hopefully next show I'll be there as a blue shirt. (paid event staff) I hope CCP enjoys themselves at the show and would consider this a good time and place to do a US based fanfest like Paul mentioned.

This is probably my only motivation to get to GenCon this year, but I didn't get on in time to buy a preregistration ticket. They shut down all ticket sales online at noon today, so looks like I'll be paying $75 on-site to play Eve for the weekend. At least I know the nachos will be greasy, the hot dogs suspect and the soda watered down!

I live in Indianapolis, Broad Ripple to be exact (Entertainment District), and have heard of GenCon, though have never actually attended. Just made fun of the guys and gals walking around downtown dressed like stormtroopers, jaffe, and god knows what else. I'm not really into the convention thing, but if some eve gamers are gonna be here.. am sure could perhaps find my way at least once to drop by. As for the $75, all I can say is WOW, being a geek is expensive. Dunno if I can swing that or not at the moment, sort of a bad time for a convention with books for classes going for $200 a pop, and don't even get me started on lab fees. However, I shall see, if can't afford to attend, no reason can't go out on the town saturday night.. -Cammulos was here. |

Edited by: Eyecandi on 22/07/2006 16:03:08 \o/ Join us, Cammulos! Where do you attend school? I'm considering whether it is worth it to walk all the way to University Hospital for meals during GenCon (quite a ways away but cheap and good food).
Yeah, unless you bought your tickets before noon PST on the 21st tickets for all four days are $75. One day tickets are $45 I believe. I'll probably cough that up just to camp the CCP booth and meet the people behind the avatars. I look at it like this: my other option for the weekend is the state fair, and I'd spend just as much money there.

I'll be there as will a friend of mine who plays Eve.
As for GenCon ticket, if you only go for a day or two, you can buy a cheap 1 day ticket. Also, if you want to go and just chill/play Eve CCG, you can buy a 1 day ticket, go into the Dealer's Room and buy what you want. Then you can hang out in the massive lobby area playing the card game.
I have the morning free of events so if someone wants to meet up to say hi and blow up some ships CCG style, evemail me.

I goto IUPUI sometimes, usually its IU Bloomington though. As for walking over to University Hospital.. wow thats a rather long walk for some food. Even further for hospital food, there's a Q'doba (Specialty Burritos, expensive but good.($4-6)) about a block north of the University Place Hotel, not to mention Taco Bell and the rest... I dunno, we may have to part ways for lunch. I find that NOT eating hospital food too often keeps me alive longer. I tend to get an extra job at the fair to get some extra spending money every year, so may get stuffed there.. dunno. -Cammulos was here. |

You're right, it is a haul, but about as far as Qdobas. But I normally eat at the hospital cafeteria because they accept JagTag as payment, it's cheap, and it is much better food than what is offered on campus. For $7.00 from the campus food service I can get a sub, chips and a drink, or I can pay $5.00 for salad, grilled cheese, fries and a drink at the hospital. The food is far superior to any campus food at IUPUI or Marian College (which I also attended) or the food at my sister's college. And she tells me it is also superior to the food served in the cafeteria she had to eat at at Bloomington last year.
But I'll probably end up just going wherever the crowd goes. There is food a lot closer to the convention center, I just try my hardest to get exercise whenever possible. Both Eve and my job have me sitting on my rear end all day.

So a day pass is $45. What does it cost to play the eve card game? Do you have to be there for the whole 4 days? I can't find any more info on eve's involvement off the Gen Con website.(other than they will be there)
