Had a lootter warp into my worlds collide mission in a Gila so I just scooped my MTU and took as much loot as i could hold. I logged off for about 3 hours to come back to it.
This person went into the last room and stole the cargo needed to complete the mission and put it in contracts for 20m. Out of principle i quit the mission and took a small standing loss rather then buy it back.
Is there a way to get around this kind of thing? Does the cargo respawn after downtime? |

I rarely bother with loot and salvage but when I do I "open cargo " on the MTU and filter it to show mods worth more than 500K and leave it open. I then drag any high value mods into a cargo container on my ship as they appear (this avoids accidently filling your hold with so much loot the MTU cannot be scooped).
I do this mainly to save time but a side effect advantage is if someone warps into your mission you can scoop the MTU immediately and know you are only leaving low value loot behind. |

You cant do the mission after its completed DT or not.

That was dumb, had you just waited until after downtime, the mission (rats and everything) would have just respawned.
If CCP didn't change anything about this, an active mission stays up for about a week or something. So theoretically you could respawn the same mission several times.

As the first reply said, if the mission is flagged as complete (ships crew dropped) then it won't reset at downtime.
OP: you might want to hang on to those hacker chips, there's always a chance the mission invader is carrying one but I've never seen that myself.
Alternatively, either use a hacker chip to bypass the first gate and run it fast, stay away from mission hubs, or get your faction up so you can do multiple declines and skip the ones that have a mission objective that can't be bought off the market or off cheap contracts (like militants, reports etc). |

The OP said someone stole something he needed to complete the mission, so the mission couldn't get flagged as complete.
Getting flagged as complete means being able to turn the mission in. Or did you mean the encounter alone? Seems weird that a mission would not respawn if there are items missing, but the encounter is flagged complete. My first reaction would have been to ask the support if that behaviour is wanted and working as intended.
If it happens this way, I never had it happen to me. (I'm a sucker for the time bonus, so I complete missions as fast as possible, barely leaving enough time for looters to find my blued wrecks before I turn it in.) |

When you kill 'group one' in the final room the mission is flagged as complete. You cannot loot the wreck until that group is dead. If the ships crew is gone, they are gone for good (in that mission). Accounts may not be used for business purposes. Ah, good to know, thanks. I was told the rats are always respawning after downtime as long as the mission isn't turned in, so I assumed the rat with the mission item would also respawn. |

checked contracts issued by the player who stole it and seems like they have 4-5 contracts going for different cargo needed to complete missions.

Worlds Collide; After killing the closest group in the last room you rescue some scientists from a ship that is next to the warp in spot, anyone that kills that group, regardless of who owns the mission, can scoop the scientist and leave.
OP; Send a petition, tell them you accidentally blew up the mission objective when you hit the button for guns instead of tractor, they will reset your mission and you can do it over again, and this time scoop your loot.
You win, mission objective thief loses.

It matters in some of the Epic arcs. Without the objective you cannot complete the rest of the arc and there are players who make a living out of stealing Epic Arc mission objectives and ransoming them back.
But even then a petition should get the mission reset.

Lying in a petition and risk whatever CCP would do doesn't seem worth it to complete a mission...
These people are annoying but if you stay away from main mission hubs they can be avoided for the most part. If it's someone looting in a faction ship get some friends in a fleet. They turn suspect so they're free for anyone in the system to kill. You can probably post a fleet invite in local once you have it pointed and people will join to get in on the kill.

Often they steal the loot making them suspect but this doesn't give them a criminal flag. Yes you're free to engage but doing so in a mission ship would be extremely foolish. If you know that person is in system it wouldn't be too hard to set up a trap |

The best way not to face this kind of crap is to either decline missions requiring a cargo or move your fat ass to the cargo as soon as it spawns.
I don't know why people in highsec fly battleships instead of heavy assault cruisers for lvl 4 missions. They're awesome because they're fast and agile. If you're fast no one will ever pick your stuff. Isthars are awesome snipers and can be cap stable with the MWD on and an active shield hardener... I'd even go as far as dropping the MTU right on top of your objective with such a ship before firing if you're paranoid. Food for thought. |

If it's a new pilot it's probably to make some easy ISK since basic scanning is fast to train. If it's an older pilot it's likely about trying to get a PVP engagement with a mission ship that's foolish enough to engage. Also either one could be a scout for a suicide gank.
If I know a mission item is about to drop I will be right on top of it at the time of spawning just in case someone does come in. If someone arrives in my mission I just warp out. This gives me an excuse to take a short break from the game. They'll likely get bored then move on to harassing someone else.

it is an older player that mainly flys gila and proteus. I do not have the skills to fight them since I am mainly skilled into a rattlesnake and logi ships both not suited to fighting t3 or pirate cruisers.
They warped into the second room of worlds collide as I was finishing it. When I saw them I scooped mtu, took loot I could carry, and warped out. I logged off for 3 hours. When I came back they were in a scanning ship in the first accel gate waiting for me I guess. They reshipped into gila and followed through the gates. In the last room they had already cleared it and stolen the cargo. They sent me a convo offering to sell it back for 20m.
I don't mind loot being stolen or my MTU getting destroyed sometimes. I do mind stealing cargo needed to complete missions. I just quit the mission and took a small standing loss. From reading the comments i gathered that missions not flagged as complete reset after downtime. If this happens again will just wait for mission to reset and use another agent for the rest of the time. |

Yea it looks like they completed the mission for you and stole the loot. I'm not sure if someone else doing your mission makes it complete but I guess it would.
NEVER engage a mission looter in a PVE ship. You will lose it unless they're terribad. It's not worth risking a mission ship to find out.
Not much you can do for those types. If you see they're about to do it just fail the mission. If you get this issue in your mission system a lot consider finding a new system. The agent finder makes it very easy. |

I can confirm that you can complete a mission that is not your own. I've done this by taking a mission on an alt that couldn't do the mission and running it myself (back when Shipyard Theft dropped the 2 bill mining link). |

Sounds like this person is lonely and just wants to meet people. Either that or it's for profit. Most likely for profit. And yes, you can trigger another person's mission objective. Racing in a frigate to the trigger point in Recon 2 like a crazed spider monkey while the big old battleship slowboats.... always entertaining. What happens next is what's interesting. Technically at this point a mission runner can simply dock up and complete mission. The real conflict occurs when all those red crosses show up, just begging to be killed for bounty and loot. |
