Initially, I've been just learning the basics of earning ISK (mining, industry). I'd like to now learn the ropes of PvP. To start with, I'd probably just fly some frigates until I master their role, and then move on.
My questions (and you must know by now I like to make numbered lists):
1. If I want to maintain a money-making pilot (miner/industry/hauling etc), should my PvP pilot be set up on an alt account? I would expect to try out a few things with PvP (FW, ganks, whatever) and I am concerned I might hurt myself in terms of NPC rep.
2. For a new PvP pilot, what would be THE best way to get up to speed? Any corps in particular? RvB? Go FW route? Hook up with nul sec people? |

Well to get started I would recommend Agony Unleashed. They have an awesome pvp for beginners class. http://www.agony-unleashed.com/
As for having an alt. That depends on your play style or what you plan to do to make the isk to replace the lost ships.
Your one account has three slots so you can have three toons on it. One could always be for making isk and another for pvping. It is difficult though to train only one character at a time.
RvB and Brave Noobie's are excellent for just jumping in too and learn as you go. |

I do ISK generation and PVP on (mostly) the same character, but I also go to great lengths to stay highsec-legal.
If you intend to go -10, or to join factional warfare, you will need to make plans to keep your ISK generation on track. FW is itself an option here.
As for getting up to speed - trial and error works. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=346564 - a proposal to overhaul the Logistics skill https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. www.minerbumping.com - ganking miners and causing chaos |

Okay... I'm a little tipsy at the moment... so forgive any typos or somesuch.

You can do most of your money making activities on your PvP accoutn provided they are not mutually exclusive. These include exploration, PvEing anomalies, running missions, wormhole diving, and/or doing Faction Warfare.
Other things like mining and building will be a bit of a divergence from the PvP skill-set and lifestyle... so it is recommended that you do those types of things on another character slot (which you can do by either "dual-training" for 1 plex a month OR pausing yoir main chariacter's skills until the alt has sufficienltly high skills).
Generally... it is recommended that you at least have one character slot occupied by one character on your account for hauling (specifically T2 haulers).
Outside of this... no, you do not NEED a second account to make money. A second account certainly helps... but ultimately it comes down to cost effectiveness. How much extra are you willing to pay per month to have that other character floating around in space for X amount of time.

Small gang? Medium gang? Large fleet? Skirmish tactics? Structured assault tactics? Leeroy tactics? Small ships? Big ships? Or somewhere between? Do you prefer blackmail/ransoming to make money? How about making money as you fight? Or do you want to set some time aside to earn an income?
My personal recommendation is to go into low-sec and shoot people... then talk with the people who just killed you. Make friends, get contacts, then expand from there. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

In lowsec it will, but to amend that you do not have to go to great lengths. I typically make up for my lost sec doing some PVE and turning in the tags I find in lowsec. The standings hits you take from killing NPC corp members (yes this is a thing) typically result in you not being able to access their mission agents in the long run, which is largely irrelevant unless you deem creating jumpclones at those specific stations (read: in the newbie systems) important. Apart from that, all you'd miss out on is access to missions that other agents also offer in another location. |

If you illegally podkill people, your sec status will trend down toward -10 pretty fast in lowsec.
'Illegal' podkilling basically is shooting or even warp scrambling someone's pod when they didn't shoot back while you blew their ship up.
I generally avoid illegal podkilling for this reason (although I live in high). https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=346564 - a proposal to overhaul the Logistics skill https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=238931 - an idea for a new form of hybrid PVE/PVP content. www.minerbumping.com - ganking miners and causing chaos |

All depends on how you plan to make money.
If you have pvp skills, chances are you'll be pretty effective with ratting / mission running. Be careful with kill right and sec status though. 0.0 ratting / anoms / plexes is very profitable and do not require a bunch of extra skill training if you're already pvp'ing in 0.0.
If you want to do hauling / trading / mining i'd suggest a 2nd account. If you have the funds.
Flying lots of iskies around in a freighter while someone you blew up earlier has kill rights on you is asking for trouble.
edit: corps like RvB mean you are constantly at war, meaning it can be difficult to make money on one account. |

If i were you, I'd join a newbie friendly 0.0 alliance like Brave (just an example). All the dudes around you, probably have the same problem. How to make sufficient isk while getting shot at a regular basis. You can Team up and learn from other guys in the same shoes. Not someone who already is spacerich and totally forgot about the trouble you might have in the beginning. |
