Ralph, I believe that change will only apply to the 100 MN (battleship) MWDs. yup, i got it wrong,

When to start PvP'ing.....as soon as you have a few friends. Then just crash around low or null sec and see what will fight you. Load up TeamSpeak or Mumble (or whatever) and have fun chatting while you do it. Fly cheap stuff so you can go reship and do it again right away.
It's even easier to join a large PvP alliance with an SRP. Both null sec and FW have lots of corps freely handing out ships or at least reimbursing their loss. Fighting FOR someone is how I broke away from worrying about having to grind PvE for cash. Plus, you'll learn more about Eve in a single fleet than in months of playing alone or surfing forums/blogs/youtube.
Even if you do still enjoy PvE or need to make a few bucks, you'll likely have a group of friends to invite along, again, mostly just to chat and hang out.
PvP isn't just some general term. It is comprised of specific roles- and fleeting allows you to specialize in a role rather than try to be everything at once solo. Try several roles and see what appeals to you. Maybe you like being independent and thinking fast- try being a scout/fast tackle guy. Perhaps being a space cleric is fun- give logi a whirl (some alliances actually reimburse above the cost of replacing a logi, so you can profit from PvP!). By all means, try out being an FC. Eve always needs more FC's and groups like RvB reward people for FC'ing, even if you die horribly.
Remember, it's a game. Even losing should still be fun. I enjoy PvP, not just winning- I often fly ships like Interdictors, which almost always die in combat. But I fight for a reason- my alliance/coalition's goals, so I don't define success merely by avoiding loss. I can enjoy being blown up both because the game is fun, but also because my win/loss had a larger context within the game. |

Awesome advice. I have a flew buddies and flew an escort mission with them, but no one attacked us. I'm almost done with my skills for the incursus, just wanted to get drone skills up to use one, and frigates IV. I think after this weekend I'm going to practice with it in highsec, then go ratting in low/nul sec and see what happens. I'm going to keep my Catalyst as my main highsec mission ship until i can outfit a thorax.
I altered the build a bit for more dps and a little less defense (as awesome as damage control is). I think im barely pushing 100 fps right now, with frigates @lvl3 and my gunnery skills at lvl 4 :\

Awesome. You have the right idea to keep a ship in reserve for cash making purposes. Many vets, regardless of where they are, tend to keep a small cache of stuff in high-sec in case everything has gone wrong for them in the game.
Also... as you are working on your gunnery skills also have a look at the skills Weapon Upgrades and Advanced Weapon Upgrades. They will greatly enhance your ability to fit certain equipment (by lowering the respective CPU and PG requirements for your weapons). And since you are flying primarily gunships you can ignore drones until you get up to cruisers. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

Already trained to drone whatever i needed. I figured every bit of damaged would help.
Hmm, ill have to remember that. Ive been fitting things okay, but i made a mistake and all my gunnery skills are at lvl3. Going to take them and my ship skills to 4, then probably go back and work on those. Ive been working on engineering skills and specific cpu/power reduction skills just to fit for the last few days, so back to working on my dps haha.
For PvE its fine. My catalysts eats up level 1 missions so fast it's boring, but i dont think ~100 dps will fair well in pvp |

Confirming that a fully gank fit Vexor is a thing of beauty and terror. It doesn't live long, but by god it can put out some serious damage.

The way I fit them, well over 1000 DPS overheated, almost 1100 at perfect skills, but a lot less EHP.
Really comes down to what you are using them for.

Minas' Morgul wrote:So I have like 6 million isk with a catalyst that I'm running L1 missions on. It's set up nice with 125 mm meta4 rails and I'm trying to get to L2 asap because they don't pay much and are very easy.
I'm looking forward to starting pvp. At what point as far as capital, income, skills and ship level/tech level should I start?
I'm also looking to outfit a thorax soon. I want to avoid plates or any extra weight and use a mwd for as much speed as possible. I'm thinking double armor rep. I'm not sure if I want to use the speed for fast, short range engagements with blasters like a skirmisher, or use longer range 200 or 250mm rails as a kitty sniper, with the speed used to dictate range.
I'm looking to fit the ship for L2 and 3 missions and possibly pvp so having two different fits would be fine.
For the record I'm concentrating heavily on gunnery and power management skills with high speed maneuvering and will probably go back to drones later.
I'd say expect to lose a lot at first. Fly and fit cheap to home your soft skills. You MUST be prepared to have a red kill board for a time and not maintain ISK efficiency. Learn to be less of a traveling hunter at first and more of an opportunistic jackal. Camp gates, camp null pipes at range, use the static bubbles against those who put them up. Work frigs and get acclimated to fast tackling.
Skill priorities should be your support skills followed by your gunnery skills. Train navigation as much as you can, power and CPU management skills, cap management skills and other skills that are universal to any ship. Your guns are no good if you cant support them.
Important thing, what works for PVE will not likely work for PVP, period.
