enough with this silly challenge, want to help? help and be done with it. want to "raise awareness" then talk about it to your family members and friends, or go around the neighborhood putting up flyers. the whole thing is ********. i have to admit its not as stupid as "give this a 'like' to save starving children in some hellhole" but its not far off.
not one person that has donated to this because hes seen the challenges has done so for any other reason than some herd mentality and a sense of guilt. it isn't an awareness campaign it's a guilt trip, just like that koni crap everyone already forgot about.
are they all worthy causes? hell yeah. but this is not a responsible way of going about it. lasting awareness and education can't be passed on by people pouring water on themselves. |

You're discouraging a fundraiser because the motivations of those who donate aren't ideal? There are a million and one things that are horribly screwed up in this world and sometimes all it takes is a little humor and a personal touch to get us to connect with one of them and help out in what little way we can. Of course education and awareness are a crucial part of furthering the cause, but are you really so cynical that you no longer see a good, honest effort to help when it hits you in the face? |

Anybody who didn't learn about it by now won't hear about it now because it all propagate on the same god damn social media system. By now, to raise the awareness about it, people really need to get off the internet and spread it elsewhere. If you didn't learn about it, you are not on the internet and won't learn about it just because yet another person doused himself in cold water and posted about it on the internet. That's why this is getting ridiculous. People don't do it to raise awareness while they should understand that by now, you will raise **** all awareness because it's been around too much already. |

It just partially balance for all the people doing it without donating because it's the "cool" thing to do these days. At least he decided to do the important part of the challenge... |

A lot of the videos I have seen for this are ********. They don't even talk about how to actually contribute to the cause aside from dumping a bunch of ice water on themselves. I would be happier to see CCP talk about it or do something similiar to the Plex-for-Haiti ****. Just to watch them pour ice water on themselves and not even talk about ALS would be no different then the other HUNDRED celebrities doing this. |

And even then, what are the chance that the ATXII crowd does not already know about it? Raising awareness is only a thing if you actually reach out to people who were not aware. |

I'm glad there are at least a few people who see through this latest bandwagon.
Donate to whatever cause you want, you'll only have more dignity by not getting caught up in nonsense. The amount of capitalization that does not go to the select cause in nearly every example like this far exceeds any difference made in the actual cause at hand.
My local grocery store has buckets for sale right out in front with ALS printed on them. 15% of all sales go to 3 charities, which then take that 15% and give roughly a 1/3 of that money to research, and medical assistance. Who knows where it goes when it reaches the institutions that are supposed to be providing the assistance and doing the research.
The overarching point is that if you wish to be charitable, do some research and find something you feel strongly about and donate or get involved somehow. This flavor of the month nonsense is nearly more of a mockery than anything else.
The second and possibly more damaging outcome of hype based charity, low impact social and environmental issues, ribbons, and other about a million other examples is that it on purpose does not address the systemic root cause of any of the presented issues. Worst of all it perpetuates the long standing idea of "if everyone did their little part" the world would be ok. This is nonsense in a root cause analysis of nearly all social problems.
The most damaging effect of these examples is the millions of individuals that do have the decency to be concerned about a particular issue facing the world or even their community, be it medical, social, environmental (think recycling),etc... Is that these decent people get tricked into going and jumping on a hype bandwagon for 5 minutes, donate $20, and then go away feeling satisfied and charitable, when truly they have simply been disarmed by a system that does not want change. Tell you what I do like though: A killer. A dyed-in-the-wool killer. Cold-blooded, clean, methodical and thorough.

They could know of the challenge but not of what it is actually for. Most of the videos I have seen have literally just been "I am taking the ice bucket challenge!" *pours ice water on themselves followed by some profane language* "Yeah! Support the cause!" /video
It doesnt talk about where you can donate at. Steve-O's video and this thread have been the only two places that actually put up links to what ALS is and links to a donation page. So, yes. I am sure the AT crowd does know of this. How many actually know where they can donate at or even what ALS is?
Edit: I am not saying all videos have been useless. Just the ones I have seen spammed around the internet. |

What we really need to do is find someone ready to start a campaign like this where people douse them in muddy water to raise awareness toward to poor quality of water in many part of the world and watch as people mud up perfectly clean water to be sure they can ride the bandwagon. |
