While I'm not exactly new, I am back after a long hiatus and very rusty. Anyway, to the point:
After signing in and getting to see a friend in-game I haven't seen in a long time (IRL), while discussing a move to New Caldari, I had an encounter with someone by the name of "Kalorned", whereas they proceeded to "bump" me away from the station I was outside of in Gamis. I was in my Retriever, as it was the ship I was in when I signed in. I didn't even know what was going on until I tried to go back into the station to check my ships and assets to see what I was going to sell and keep for the move. After I realized that "Kalorned" was causing me to move away when I was trying to go back in, I tried to warp away. As he was pushing me further and further away my friend realized what was going on and warned me what was going on. I managed to get away, and had a long conversation with him about this ridiculous "code" regarding miner bumping. He even sent me to a website:
http://www.minerbumping.com/p/the-code.html
Needless to say, they've somehow convinced a group of people that harassing people and extorting money from them for doing something as simple and harmless as mining in HIGH SEC is okay. From what they've told me CCP somehow agrees that it isn't harassment. I'd like to know how CCP can agree to this kind of facade. I find it hard to believe that they would allow something like this because it takes away from the mellow and quiet drawl of mining, something I enjoy doing fairly often. Being that I pay to play this game, and I'm sure many others do as well who very much dislike this kind of behavior, I feel that I should gauge the sentiment here on the forums.
I'd like some input on this and whether there are others like me who feel this kind of use of the game should be allowed. Should it be allowed, or should this behavior be labelled harassment in the EULA/ToS? I look forward to many replies. |

CCP's stance on bumping is this and it is quite reasonable stance to take:
Quote:CCP considers the act of bumping a normal game mechanic, and does not class the bumping of another playerGÇÖs ship as an exploit. However, persistent targeting of a player with bumping by following them around after they have made an effort to move on to another location can be classified as harassment, and this will be judged on a case by case basis.
We would also like to stress that if a gameplay activity is classified as being GÇ£within the rulesGÇ¥ this does not mean that we endorse, sanction or back player activity. We simply see this as emergent gameplay that has occurred due to the nature of game mechanics.
As such, any players who have any notes to this effect within their in game biographies should remove words of this nature immediately.
They're not endorsing anything, but just saying it's an acceptable use of game mechanics as long as you don't go overboard with it by continually targeting individuals no matter where they go. If all you want is to mine in peace without interaction with non-miners, I suggest you find yourself a more quiet corner of the universe. These kind of activities are almost always heavily concentrated on high visibility/population areas, so just a few jumps off the beaten path makes a world of difference.

Everyone pays for this game and almost everyone understands this is a multiplayer sandbox. It means you're entitled to try everything, but there can not be any guarantees of success and other people are entitled to do the same as you, which leads to inevitable clashes between player interests and inevitably someone has to be the loser in that clash. If you want things to go your way, you're going to have to adjust your activities to account for their activities or push back. Making a declaration about how you just want to be left alone is just you announcing you're an easy mark who is likely to fold or submit when pressured. |

I agree with you mate, it's blatant harassment and should be stopped.
The other day I was chatting to someone on another game and had to apologise for being a bit slow off the mark in a guild war. I told them I was on another game ie EVE.
After I mentioned this game a member said that he used to play this with 6 accs but stopped when CCP allowed ridiculous harassment as valid gameplay. The overriding reason he quit was that he refused to accept that he could be blackmailed and harassed for playing the game the way he wanted to play, he simply stood by his principles.
Now you and me are going to get a lot of crap from the usual suspects in here telling us both to htfu and leave if we don't like it.
It's up to you what you do now, if you stay where you are you might have to put up with the same crap now and then. So you could try to sucker one into giving you kill rights and then kick the crap out of them later, do unto them, ie; get in a bigger ship than them and do the same thing to them. Or just move systems.
Whatever you do, have fun doing it...it's what gaming is all about. It's just a pity we have to put up with morons at the same time. |

Simple answer, it's CCPs game, so CCP makes the rules. If you feel that you're being harassed, griefed, or etc, you should send a support ticket in and have it resolved by a GM. Kentucky Derby losers are not turned into Ikea meatballs. Dzhokhar Tsarnaev did not accidentally blow up vowels in his own name. The chupacabra does not deliver presents on Cinco De Mayo. While I'm not a fan of bumbling miners, CCP is forced to walk a fine line as they want it to be valid in pvp, but they really (from what I understand) don't support it for miners and haulers, yet at the very same time it is creating content. So I'm not saying HTFU but it won't be changeing and get off the beaten path and make them work to find you. Always willing to help all you have to do is ask, though if your in the other fleet I may not help the way you want. Just a heads up. Pub Channel: Lost Souls Trading Post |

CCPs policy on bumping, especially with regards to mining
Eve is a sandbox, that means that you can attempt to play the game in any fashion that you see fit (within the rules), so can everybody else (within the rules), even if the way that they want to play involves attempting to stop you from playing the way you want to play.
TL;DR Bumping is allowed within the limits specified in the thread I linked above. "It's easy to speak for the silent majority. They rarely object to what you put into their mouths."-á - Abrazzar

Go emergent gameplay this, if you are going to whine about basic game play mechanics that have been hashed out over and over over and over over and over over and over over and over over and over , at least do it where we can troll the thread and actually get some use out of it. =][= |

Remember, every player is allowed to do whatever they want in New Eden. Sometimes, that means that you have to adapt what you're doing in order to continue doing it. One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |
