To be brief, I want to start clearing my cache on a more regular basis as opposed to just when something goes wrong. Thing is, in the past (not sure if it's suddenly different now) clearing cache settings defaulted things like window positions/save states and overview settings. Now, the overview part is easy, that I can handle. It's things like the window settings I don't know how to keep in place.
Is there a file associated with window positions that I can back up like the overview.xml files, or is there a way to clear cache without causing everything in client to revert back to defaults? |

Bump.
Just been digging around my files and wonder if the "core_char__" and/or "core_user__" files are what I'm looking for. They have the most recent file modifications (dated 8/20/14), along with a file I'm not sure I recognize called "core_public__.yaml". The char and user files each have a larger file next to them having the same name, but with a long number in place of the last underscore. I also checked with the backup folder of these files, but they are all out of date (latest was sept of last year).
Any thoughts on these files or possibly others with respects to my former question? Would backing these up and then replacing them after clearing cache restore UI window settings? |

Does anyone know? Is the UI window settings server side, or is there a file locally stored with these settings? Anyone? |

When you clear your cache only, no settings are reset. Choose the right button in the client or launcher and all is well.
UI settings as window arrangements should be stored locally in the settings files. On 64 Bit Windows default installations, the settings files are stored in:
%LOCALAPPDATA%\CCP\c_program files (x86)_ccp_eve_tranquility\settings\
The bolded part is similar your client install path plus the server those settings are used for (trainquility for the actual game server).
Keep a backup of the settings folder, remove the cache folder (or use the client/launcher to clear the cache for you) and you should be fine. EVE Infolinks -+-áOld and new-áPortraits |

I'd give you more than one like, because you are honestly the first person who's been able to give me a straight answer on this. I wasn't sure if hitting "clear cache" would be like hitting every other button individually including the UI settings like it use to be in the past from what I remember. Needless to say, I've cleared cache before and had things defaulted that I didn't think would, so I've always been a little skiddish around that option. TY, mate. |
