Hardware vendors package their products with driver CDs because they distribute globally. People in rural areas and in other places where high-speed Internet access is either unavailable or outrageously expensive would have a use for a driver CD. But most of their customers will simply download newer versions of those drivers from the vendor's website.
There are also specific cases where you need a driver on hard media, like loading HDD controller drivers in the Windows installer.
This is like saying that floppies were still in widespread use up until April of this year because the Windows XP installer required SCSI/RAID drivers to be loaded from a floppy. Twitter: @EVEAndski

Try newegg set price range 1000-1500 i don't think you can get both i7 4810 and 6gb GPU together, granted it have single ripjaw stick but that's cheap upgrade when done right. http://i.imgur.com/1N37t.jpg

Drivers don't do anything without hardware and there's plenty of other obscure drivers that come with windows and other OSes. On the other hand these machines come with DVD drives like almost every new pre-built laptop and desktop machine. Absolutely none of the machines I opened had 1.44mb 3.5 inch floppy drives. That completely obliterates your entire attempt at rationalizing your foolish statement. Just admit you were being silly and stop with this sad attempt to be "right".

It's almost worthless to give you laptop suggestions with such a vague list of requirements.
Macbook is about worthless. All you could do is office/school work on it. Gaming would be a joke as Apple uses low quality components outside of the screen. You pay a lot for little when it comes to most apple notebooks.
I suggest an asus ROG style notebook. But since you haven't given us any indication of what size you want and such I'm really just guessing.
Having said that my 600 dollar dell inspiron 15r se (7520) that I bought over a year ago plays multiple eve clients on the screen at 1920x1080 with +60fps. I got it for cheap by waiting for the proper deals to stack up and by playing with the website for a while. Dell like many other prebuilts have multiple prices on all their items. The price you see will vary depending on how you navigated to the price page. I was able to find the cheapest version then apply some limited length coupons along with a discount from my job to cut the price in half. Despite being a dell and cheap the laptop has survived daily treks to work and college along with some flights home. |

And plenty of laptops that don't, such as all Chromebooks, ThinkPad X-Series, MacBook Pros (hell, the only machine in Apple's lineup with an optical drive is the Mac Pro) and pretty much all thin & lights.
A lot of PCs came with parallel and serial ports as late as 2008, a decade after USB became standard. Serial is still used for managing network equipment and for out-of-band server management, for controlling CNC machines and other very specific uses, but it's still obsolete. Twitter: @EVEAndski

There might of been a specific reason why I kept my comment limited to a specific selection of machines that DON"T involve anything you listed.
What is your end game with this? Are you just that mad that you were proven wrong that you're desperate to catch me in some manner so that you can be right? How many alts are you going to bring into this so you can feel better? Just get over it. You were wrong on the internet. No one but you really cares.
I do use a serial port for specific custom electronic devices though. Dumping eeproms etc is much easier over a serial. |

I kinda want to build a new machine as well. Though I'm not sure even the upcoming Skylake i7 will be much of a noticeable improvement over my i7 930? Performance-wise anyway. Power-usage will be significantly better I guess. My computer is a friggen space heater when running 2 EVE clients. |

And people actually buy them, use them and don't have a problem with the lack of an internal optical drive.

I don't have an "end game". Unlike you, I don't post with alts.
ashley Eoner wrote:OMG DVDs and Bluerays are SOOOOO out of date only an idiot would buy one or buy a drive to play one. I mean seriously they are just like 3.5 and 5.25 drives in the level of outdatedness that they exist in!!! No new computers come with DVD or blueray drives because Clearly they are so outdated only an idiot would put one in a new machine. Small form factor for lyfe cause no one ever needs a large case for any reason!!!
You win sir clearly you are an amazing person with an amazing intellect and a perfect physique!
iTunes, Netflix, VUDU, CinemaNow, Google Play - need I go on?
And if I have to get a physical copy to watch a movie, I'll watch it from ten feet rather than two. As in, in my living room rather than at my desk.
I also didn't say that absolutely nobody anywhere needs an optical drive or large case. A lot of people need those things, but most people simply don't. Twitter: @EVEAndski

So I did some more searching and found the MSI GE70 Apache Pro-012 and Sager NP7378 on powernotebooks up for customization
They both seem about equal in terms, but I am sure there is a difference Oh and I am currently having to cool my current laptop with ice pacs due to the GPU having fried now Yay technology.
Maybe for next trick I will turn water into electricity using only wire and aluminum foil. |

I prefer to watch my DVDs on my computer. But that may be because I never bothered to buy a flatscreen TV. I still just have a 27" tube TV with which to watch my VHS tapes on, and occasionally play Super Nintendo. I could go buy a current TV... but SNES and VHS sucks on them. So I'd only use it for DVDs, which is maybe 1/3 of my movie collection. And then I'd have to find space for it somewhere. Or space somewhere else for the tube TV. Meh. Watch on computer. Computer does everything. All hail computer.

Netflix and every other streaming service only seem to allow you to stream garbage most of the time. If you want anything good you gotta have a DVD mailed. And why spend money on a subscription service if you don't have to? I'd rather buy the few movies I like for $10 a pop and watch them whenever, than spend $11 a month for access to gobs and gobs of junk I don't care about, and own nothing.

To be honest, you have to look at what you'll be using this Machine for.
Video Editing Photoshop Coding Office work Light Gaming (Flash "games"/Minecraft/Terraria/FTL...etc etc) Mediocre Gaming (EVE, GTA, Kerbal) Extensive Gaming (12x4-c EVE Clients, GTA V (soonGäó) BF4) How many/What programs will run simultaneously?
You also have to factor if you're a file hoarder. If you're burning anything to disk. Multimedia options. (Video Capture/Audiophile)
Then you also have to ask yourself, how long do you really mind to wait for things to load.
I have 2 PC's for very different uses.
For casual gaming/usage I use the PC in room. i3 2130 Generic ASUS mobo 8 GB Ram Radeon HD 6570 120 GB SSD 1TB HDD Generic Audio 300W PSU
Which runs everything I need. Dual EVE clients at medium settings both at 60-70FPS.
My dedicated gaming rig in my study is. i5 4590 ASUS Z97-K 16 GB Ram R9 290 120 GB SSD 1TB HDD SB Audigy 750W PSU
On 3 monitors will run 2 EVE Clients 200+ FPS max res/settings (Interval set to "Immediate" in client settings.) And GW2 at Max Settings at 80FPS simultaneously! (on a rig that will cost FAR less the the one Alienware quoted you for!) EVE needs more Pssshhhh |
