Well, since the fiasco with Somerblink and the whole RMT business, quite a few of us have questions on CCP's stance regarding certain RMT's.
As most of you are aware, themittani.com pays it's writers in ISK, pretty harmless right? But now that all of these writers are paid in ISK, all of the "good" writers flock to TMC to get paid which in turn, the TMC publishes some well written / edited articles forcing the community to use this as the main source of news. Now this on the surface is not bad, but at the end of the day, the owners of TMC make a living off of this website (real money through ads). They generate this Real Life money by paying their writers in in game ISK thus coverting ISK to Cashmoney.
How is this any different than the somerblink thing? TMC is effectively violating the EULA by offering in game items/currency for real world items, which according to the EULA is a big no no.
EULA
B. Selling Items and Objects
You may not transfer, sell or auction, or buy or accept any offer to transfer, sell or auction (or offer to do any of the foregoing), any content appearing within the Game environment, including without limitation characters, character attributes, items, currency, and objects, other than via a permitted Character Transfer as described in section 3 above. You may not encourage or induce any other person to participate in such a prohibited transaction. The buying, selling or auctioning (or any attempt at doing so) of characters, character attributes, items, currency, or objects, whether through online auctions, newsgroups, postings on message boards or any other means is prohibited by the EULA and a violation of CCP's proprietary rights in the Game.
If TMC is allowed to continue to operate in this manner, CCP is effectively saying it is ok to go and set up a google ads account and spam jita with a 100isk / click website link. We may have to say "post a comment to recieve said isk" but at the end of the day, this is pretty much the exact same thing which is ISK for content/clicks.
Would be very curious to hear CCP respond to this as according to the EULA, TMC has been in violation for years now. |
