It seems as if most raw ores now have a higher value then their reprocessed minerals after this latest "upgrade".
Is this something done purposely?
Why would miners refine ores to lose isk? It seems some what strange that an industrial refining process would reduce the total value of the end product.
I would appreciate any feedback or direction to a dev blog that explains this. GÇÿVain flame burns fast/and its lick is light/Modest flame lasts long/and burns to the bone.GÇÖ |

ore can be compressed.
mineral compression using modules (such as the 425 rails) have been nerfed to oblivion.
so if you want to move large amounts of minerals its best to use compressed ores. so therefor they are worth more |

Since this helps miners make more profit (The compressed ore market can only be supplied by miners and not shooting NPCs), it is probably either done on purpose or a nice side effect. http://eve-industry.org |

Compressed ore can be hauled to null sec where processing rates are much higher. |

Remember it's a player-driven market. If compressed ores are valued more than minerals, their prices will rise. It's not something that CCP has defined, they don't set the market prices.
As for why miners are still refine, not sure. Probably the ones who are aren't looking at the markets. I suspect, as compressed ore becomes more common (as people realised that refining isn't necessarily the best thing), their prices will drop slightly. |

A lot depends whether you are playing a game or running a business. I enjoy participating in all aspects of the industrial process - mining, refining, PI, research, invention, manufacturing, hauling and marketing.. I could make more ISK by specializing, particularly at my relatively low skill level but think it's more fun to dabble in everything. Vertical integration allows you to participate in industry at a lower skill level - since the cost of your inputs is basically your time you can be competitive with higher skill players who are purchasing their inputs from the market and profitability will improve as your skill level increases. |

Fun things to do:
Buy 100,000,000 units of veldspar, for 17 isk and below.
Transport it to a pos. (yay. that's 10ish freighter trips)
Compress it
Sell it for 2,600 per unit.
900+ million isk, for doing a few freighter trips.
A lot of lowend minerals are needed for making capitals, super carriers and titans. But minerals aren't the cheapest way to move them. So people are paying an overhead on the initial material, to reduce their costs for transport.
This leads to the raw material being more valuable. It'll reach equilibrium eventually, as people realise that the ore is more valuable, leading to less being refined, reducing the oversupply of minerals, leading to a rise in price there. Woo! Seems to me, looking at Jita, that highsec uncompressed ores are about 50/50 in terms of whether they are more valuable or less valuable than minerals. Compressed highsec ores are usually more valuable than minerals but not always. Rarer ores are just about always more valuable than minerals especially when compressed.
People are still refining because they're dumb. |
