Howdy folks (and all you soulless Jita spam-bots... I know you're watching)!
I've decided to hang up the railguns for a while and turn my attention to mining - shooting at something that's not shooting back at you is a pretty nice change of pace. Regardless, I'm now an interstellar rock-cracker, and was hoping in the long term to join a corporation.
Which brings me to my question - what sort of miners do corporations normally look for? Ice breakers? Gas huffers? Wormhole ninjas? Low-sec scordite hoarders?
I'm just a few skill-training hours shy of upgrading to a Retriever (mmMMmmMMmm... delicious ore hold capacity...), but want to make sure I'm heading in the right direction skills/equipment/shipwise to really be an asset to a corporation and not just "Well, there goes Cyrus again, with a hold full of Veldspar. What a tool."
Thanks in advance,

Rocks are more abundant ... but really, being able to do all three is good.
Also depends on where you're flying/who you're flying with. One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia |

From my experience Gas -> Ice -> Rocks in order of decreasing commonality. Gas harvesting folks are pretty specialized and not as common, rock miners are nigh ubiquitous, and ice miners are in between. At the end of the day though, any good mining/industrial corp will likely take any of the three.
Interestingly enough, the more common the mining, the more skills are involved. Go figure. Reading Comprehension: a skill so important it deserves it's own skillbook.

Its not what the corp wants. It's what you want. Things to consider are:
Where are you planning to live? High, low, null, wspace? Do you want to build stuff or just mine?
If its highsec, you can go with ice or ore. If its lowsec/null you can go with all three, so do you want to build stuff? If not, probably ore or gas. Ice being static would mean constant pvp. If its null you can go ice if the corp you join has an ice system.
If you want to get into building ships, go ore mining.
If you are in wh, learn gas mining. |

You know something? I never even considered the ship-building part of things. I suppose I could wrangle up some blueprints and start churning out ships. :) - Part-time Ferox railgunner - Part-time Data Site hacker and Relic Site digger - Part-time Mining monkey - Full-time Awesome - Occasional Pain in the Butt |
