My old character was trained heavily in missile skills. This one, I want to use hybrids and lasers. So, my question is, is it better to stack turrets, or not stack them? If stacked and you achive a good hit, then all stacked turrets also get a good hit. But, if you don't, then none of them do. Is it better to not stack them and fire them individually, increasing each turret's chances to hit well?
Thanks in advance for your collective wisdom. |

I like to split them 50/50 for overheating purposes and under heavy neuting I use them individually |

For PvE... not stacking your weapons will work but not for the reasons you think. Basically they allow you to better manage your damage against specific NPCs and not waste ammo doing "overkill" shots.
In PvP... trajectories and angles are constantly changing so the odds of scoring better hits with unstacked guns is "hit and miss" (see what I did there!). However, the convenience of only having to deal with one button versus several (which may not activate at the moment you want due to lag) far outweighs any nominal advantage you may or may not gain. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective.

i say go for click them all 1 by 1! *yeah some call this newb move i know* but it cheaper in pve atleast *aka no overkill wasted ammo*
cause nothing more badass then the looks of shooting like a batshit crazy space person
*i tend to fly ships with lots of turrent slots*
however can't go wrong with a good frig as they got good firing rate and move fast.
now if we could only get a cockpit mode to really get the feel your controlling a big fat ship in space *be fun in pve at least but probably not viable pvp* *+ yeah i know we stuck in pod pooo* |

Afaik all weapons still do their own damage/hitting rolls even while grouped. Just the end result is summed up. |

Group your guns, focus your fire. Overkill may occur, but it's considerably less painful than underkill, especially when under heavy fire. |

I try to group my weapons into as few groups as possible. If I'm only using one ammo type, this means one group. If I'm using two ammo types, this means two groups, etc.
Using multiple ammo types can be handy for launchers and projectiles because it allows a more uniform damage type distribution and better damage type selection. See which group is doing the most damage and swap the other group(s) to that ammo type. For example, on my Vengeance fits I'll load each launcher with a different missile type, so I have a perfectly uniform damage spread and I can easily pick out the best damage type to do.
Using multiple ammo types with lasers and hybrids doesn't really make sense since the main thing varied there is range, and you want all your guns ranges to match up. There is a problem with splitting groups of turrets while overheating guns/hi-mods. If you have 1 stack, then all of them will take damage equally and all will burn out at the same time since EvE treats the stack as one gun, but if u have multiple stacks/hi-mods being overheated in the high slots, the heat damage will not be distributed evenly, a single gun in a 2 gun stack taking damage from a seperate overheated gun could take damage seperately (And faster) than the other gun in the stack. And if one gun in a stack burns out then the WHOLE stack goes offline. You have to manually un-group the guns and disclude the burned out gun to use them again. But if ur doing PvE u won't be overheating so no worries there. "Your security status has been lowered." - Hell yeah it was! |

a bell curve is a bell curve. I mean if you are shooting NPC frigs then ungrouped (or at least several smaller groups) is probably best, due to overkill factors, but other than that I'd say it doesn't matter too much. sure you will probably lose out on wrecking hits, but you won't really have any of them barely hit does almost no damage hits too (and if you do have one it is likely that you would have missed all your shots with ungrouped guns) or something like that. You can trust me, I have a monocole |

You still get wrecking hits from individual guns just as if they weren't grouped. You don't "miss out" on anything. |

so you will! https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1265277#post1265277
I remember reading they did simplifications in the name of server performance somewhere, which is apparently a false-memory based on something also in that thread https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=1265970#post1265970
still, if you expect overkill ungrouping is probably a good idea, where if you need to get all the deepz asap grouping is probably a good idea if for nothing else the sake of convenience You can trust me, I have a monocole |
