I've been worried about going to fast and getting into lvl 2 missions before I'm ready. (still learning how to learn) But lvl 1 kill missions are a joke for me.
My 2 drones often blow stuff up before I can target it. I have a civil shield recharger that I only need 1 outta 4 missions. AB, 2*nano. I use 2*125mm with tungston. I do have gunnery 4 and targeting 3 from my Gallante character creation. Missles are the only thing that come close to hurting.
Are lvl2 that much harder?

Level 2 are a lot harder than one, but you don't need to worry about NPC's that warp scramble you yet, so give them a try but be ready to run if needed. And you'll need to look at a better shield booster most likely.

Perhaps the biggest transition is the amount of damage you have to tank, either via shields or armor. Most frigates won't stand up very well to sustained missile hits unless your skills are pretty high.
As the guy above said, give them a try, but I think you will find a move to cruiser level ships will make that transition much smoother.

Destroyers work pretty well for level 2.

Heh, biggest difference for me going to L2s was the the ramp-up in the number and damage of the missiles. For a lot of the missions, if you took those out they wouldn't be much harder than L1s.
If you're bored, I'd recommend trying it regardless. Just be ready to warp out, think about things, and come back sometimes. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

If you have the cash for a cruiser, go ahead and buy one. You can run lvl 2's rather easily in a cruiser, without getting bored ( refuse Human Cattle for the first few missions, to get the hang/feel of them). Do not attempt to do these in a frigate. Frigates can do them, but require a whole lot of skill points, and decent tactics. At less than 2 mill sp, these go so slowly ( and dangerously), you're better off staying with lvl 1's. Actually you could even run the first 3 parts of Human Cattle ok also. Level 4 and 5 get much harder until you are a little mor eused to the level 2's.

"Decent tactics", sure, at least for the more difficult ones. As far as sp goes, I'd say 500k combat-related would be a good starting point for most people. My experience with L2s in t1 frigs is limited to shield tanking Rifters though, so maybe other ships would have more trouble.
Everything but Human Cattle 3 and 5 was quite doable after one go-through. Some of the missions could have been easier, but if they had been, I'd have been pretty bored. Even HC was possible; it was just very time-consuming.
Anyway, if you're just interested in grinding out the L2s as fast as possible, a cruiser or better is probably the way to go. But if you're in it just as much for the fun, frigates are awesome, IMO.
One of these days I'd like to go back and try to do as many as I can in a Slasher. * * * In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move.

I generally run T2's in a Assault Frig (Harpy), it makes for not only good DPS but picking up loot is a snap.

You can do quite a few of them in a Merlin, but better fit some defenders if the NPC's use missiles.
A passive tanked Caracal is much quicker/easier and you can get into one with a couple weeks training. I have been using 5 assault launchers, 1 AB, 2 large t2 extenders, 2 medium t2 extenders, and 2 shield power relays.

LVL 1 Frigate LVL 2 Cruiser LVL 3 Battlecruiser LVL 4 Raven
Thats just basic ship guidlines for what you will need to make the missions a snap. I went to lvl 3 missions after around 3 days for the Caldari navy, and am now easily doing lvl 4's in my Raven, with my sp just below 3 mil.

Thanks for the advice. I tried 2 out and they are **** loads harder. My skills are poor. I can't heal damage(shield/armor fast enough. What damage I can heal I can't sustain the cap for. I've tried 3 setups. in two different frigs. It blows, my frig that is.
I have money for a cruisor just not the skills. I started with percep 3 and had intended on only learning t1/2 frig + industrial + maybe covert stuff. Looks like that was a bad plan.
I think I'll just haul stuff for a month. I don't know what to say. |

As a gallente, get drones up to 5, train a few other drone skills up half way, buy a vexor, fit it with 800mm plate, med arm repper, 2 cap rechargers and whatever else you can fit (I have 2 arm. hardeners and I vary the guns) and you will be able to do most or all lvl 2's right off. Ones to be careful of are anything that pays really well ;) - I'll pass this advice on as it's what I did, and I was doing lvl 2s as soon as I got Drone 5, effectively, let the drones take the strain, as soon as you have 5 out, there arent many level 2s that will cause you an issue as long as your tank holds and you make sure you get the drones to hit the "elite" or cruiser targets first (then make sure you guide them so they are always all hitting the same target). I'm actually still doing lvl 2 in lowsec as they are damned fast to complete and the risk vs reward is pretty good when you dont have a lot of time or money (or both)
If your still reading, convo me in game and I'll be happy to go through a few with you

I've been running level 2 Missions with a Caracal and my 11 days of training (~215,000sp) pretty easily. The only thing that has come close to a threat to me is "Bring a Murderer to Justice", those heavy missiles take their toll after a while.
Anyways, I have the followng setup: 5x Malkuth Assult Launchers (Bloodclaws) 2x Large Azeotropic Ward Salubrity I 1x Medium Shield Booster I 1x Y-S8 Hydrocarbon I Afterburners 2x PDS I 1x Medium Peroxide I Capacitor Power Cell
I haven't had the Human Cattle missions presented to me yet, so I don't know how my skills and setup will fare with them.

This. Level 2 kill missions are trivial in a Vexor with Drones 5, and Drone Interfacing 3 (which is a given if you have drones 5), and Scout drones 4 (for the drone link augmentor).
I don't use guns. Too much of a bother. I used 2 Drone Link Augmentors, and a Tractor beam. I don't know if you can get 2 tractor beams on there, but if you can, then do it. Of course, tractor beams will have no effect on whether or not you can complete the missions.
800mm plate, a medium armor rep, and a single cap recharger were fine. If you can fit hardeners, so much the better. But they aren't needed for level 2's. So don't hesitate to get into a vexor without them. But definately keep Hull upgrades 4 on your list of near-term goals. Get your targeting skill up, as well, since it's a damn fine skill to have when facing losts of small targets (which pretty much define level 2 missions).
Basically: Warp in to the encounter. Target 4 hostiles. Release the drones. Sic drones on targets, one at a time. You don't need guns. Just keep sicing the drones on new targets after they instapop whatever they are fighting, while you fly around collecting cans. In a Vexor, with modest drone skills, you could practically AFK level 2's, if not for the fact that you have to micromanage your drones.

Thanks for the continuing advice.
I'm still training learning. I sort of gimped myself starting with a 3 in percep. So until I get the advanced percep and willpower to 3 I don't want to spend much time learning ship skills. I've been doing lvl2 non-kill missions. next couple weeks I'll train for vexor and drones then go to town. cruiser is fairly easy to get so I will. But due to my poor percep I can't really learn everything. I'm wanting to forgoe BS and move towards AC and HAC
The incursus is such a fast little ship I'm gonna miss it in the big slow ships.
