Hello all, This is more of a query more than anything.
That is, why can't the character Overviews be separate to each other? I'm talking about characters on the same account, but regardless, it just seems illogical to me that characters are forced to share the same overview and UI options.
I use all three character slots for a wide variety of things (as I'm sure most do). Having to change the arrangement of columns, position of the target list, and the profile for all 5 tabs is, well, a chore.
Does anyone else have this issue, or is it just me? |

Hmmm...seems to me the UI you find preferable to play with wouldn't vary from character to character in any large measure. I don't see one for Amarr, one for Caldari, and one for that other bunch that starts with an M...mmmSlaves...would make any difference. Setting up a mining/combat/explore tab would be essentially done on the same set of preferences, yours..which would be transferable to all three...mining toon, combat toon, etc.
I'm having a hard time seeing the point here. It's YOU you're setting up the UI for, not your characters. There aren't three of you...are there? Dont fight it; Rejoin your Amarrian patriarchs; You know you want to. |

there are also things like client window size that carry over from the last login (using the same launcher and install). it's particularly annoying.
the fastest solution I can think of is exporting the settings for each character and importing them again (yes, each time). It is a hassle, but overview settings export to the same consolidated folder / location. I make use of this at least once a week. sometimes the character is a logi, sometimes it's a turret shooter, etc.
you need different overviews for the same character (imo), so it's not a matter of characters sharing the same account.
just to be thorough, the steps for importing overview settings.
step 1 and 2 involve the little square at the top left corner of the window.
overview click 1
click 2
click 3
exporting settings are similar. and you get to name them as they are exported.
good luck President of the Commissar Kate Fanclub | Rainfleet on Twitch | Twitter | Rainfleet mk.III | Imgur |

in windows you can use the mklink command to make folders that look like separate eve installs but are all based on a different eve install. so when I run the launcher it updates the Eve folder, and the eve2, eve3, ..., eveN folders all get the update too, but each eveX will generate a separate cache.
I mainly use this to have the right account show up on the right monitor, but there are a few other things that happen because of that too. Although it seems CCP is storing a lot more server side so not 100% sure on how that will end up working for everything. You can trust me, I have a monocole |

No, but there's certain module options and HUD configurations that I like when doing stuff with different toons.
Take Missioning for example, I have one character in High Sec for this activity, and I prefer to push the HUD to the lower left, and the target list to the bottom right.
Outside of Missioning, it's just plain annoying.

This sounds very interesting. I might give it a try sometime in the future. It definitely sounds like something I'd like to have.
... ...
It'd be nice if one day there was just a simple option for this. Thanks all for the replies. |

question: by using that method, can you pin each exe to the taskbar individually?
using separate installs allows me to do this President of the Commissar Kate Fanclub | Rainfleet on Twitch | Twitter | Rainfleet mk.III | Imgur |

yes each exe has its own shortcut on the taskbar. I have the taskbar set to never combine things, so open clients don't stack.
The launcher I'm not really sure about. If I open each one separately in rapid succession they will open individually, and usually show up in the order clicked. but if I open one and it opens, then I try to open another it won't seem to do anything.
so: bam bam bam -> open open open vs bam -> open -> bam -> focus on previously opened launcher
this is tested with up to 3 clients.
I've been meaning to try what happens when you have multiple full installs, but I've never gotten around to it. I assume it will be slightly different as I think the launcher data stays in the game folder so it all kinda ends up "looking" at the same stuff. It might be possible to add an option to the command to have separate launcher folders, but I haven't looked into it. You can trust me, I have a monocole |

Oh. I get it. You're confusing the UI with the desktop nature of a game you can open windows in. A more accurate subject line would be "Why can't my EVE desktop be more like my real desktop?" When you say "UI" I'm sure most people are thinking in terms of the overview and "controls" of the ship - even the chat window I guess.
I have three characters on one account and have no problem with the interface between the three. But, then, I'm not anal about it. Anyone with any sense has already left town. |

Module options were also a feature that I was referencing, and "UI" seemed like a more appropriate term. I got my terminology mixed. 'Heads Up Display' is what I meant.
I assume most people wouldn't have a problem with the shared HUD/Overview. But I mainly came here to ask whether it was possible, as the title implied, to separate them. |

Create the settings you like for each char, then copy the char+account files and save them into a separate folder for each char.
Swap the files in as needed. |
